There is no official ranking of the worst Pokémon. The answer changes depending on whether “worst” means low base stats, few useful moves, a restrictive form, or poor performance in a particular game or battle format. Magikarp and Unown are familiar candidates for limited battle options, while Wishiwashi’s Solo Form and Shedinja illustrate how different stat-based measures can produce different answers. No consistent evidence supports putting ten Pokémon in a definitive all-time order.
What does “worst Pokémon” mean?
“Worst” is not an official Pokémon category. The official Pokémon Pokédex lets readers search by attributes such as type, weakness, and ability; it does not rank species from best to worst. A useful ranking has to name its scope and criteria first.

These measures answer different questions, and they should not be treated as interchangeable:
- Base-stat total: a broad summary of a Pokémon’s listed stats, but not a complete measure of how it performs in a particular game.
- HP: one stat, not an overall ranking. A Pokémon with very low HP may have another mechanic that changes how it functions in battle.
- Moveset breadth: how many practical battle options are available in the game being considered. A restricted moveset can matter even when a Pokémon’s stats are not the lowest.
- Form and evolution: a species may evolve or have forms with different battle profiles. A ranking must identify which form and game it means.
- Usefulness in a specific format: performance can shift with the game, generation, rules, and available moves. A claim about one format should not be presented as an all-time verdict.
Ten candidates people often mean by “the worst”
The available material points to these candidates, but it does not establish a verified top ten or a defensible order. They are grouped by the kind of weakness they illustrate, rather than ranked from first to tenth.
#1 Best Overall
Magikarp: a reputation built around limited options
Magikarp is a familiar shorthand for weakness, in part because discussions about it focus on its limited move options. That reputation is not proof that it has the lowest stats of any Pokémon. Community discussion can explain why it is a popular example, but it is not a current competitive ranking.
Unown: a moveset-restriction candidate
Community discussion also singles out Unown for severely restricted battle options. This makes it relevant when the criterion is moveset breadth, but older community commentary should not be treated as a guide to Unown’s options in every current game.
Wishiwashi (Solo Form): a form-specific stat example
A 2026 article from Toynk Toys reports a base-stat total of 175 for Wishiwashi’s Solo Form and contrasts it with School Form. That is a secondary-source figure, not an independently verified official statistic here. The form matters: do not apply a Solo Form claim to Wishiwashi generally without specifying the game and its form mechanics.
Sunkern: a low-total candidate
Toynk Toys’ 2026 list identifies Sunkern as an example of a Pokémon with a low base-stat total. That makes it a candidate under a stat-total criterion, not proof that it ranks second—or anywhere else—in a universal list.
Shedinja: low HP, but not only HP
Toynk Toys’ 2026 article cites Shedinja’s 1 HP as an example of weakness. HP alone does not settle its battle value: the article also notes its unusual ability, which complicates a simple “lowest HP equals worst” conclusion.

Five more entries? The evidence does not support naming them
A real all-time top ten would need five additional choices judged by the same rules as the candidates above. The available material does not supply a verified set of ten, a consistent game scope, or comparable evidence for those choices. Filling out the list with unsupported names would make it look more certain than it is.

The examples above show why one list can mix unlike claims: a reported stat total for one form, a single HP figure, and community judgments about move restrictions. Those are useful starting points for separate comparisons, but they do not produce one shared scoring method.
Game and format also matter. Moves and usefulness can differ across generations and battle rules, while form mechanics can change which version of a Pokémon is being discussed. A ranking can be meaningful when it specifies a particular game or format and applies the same criteria to every entry. Without that scope, an exact first-through-tenth order is not established.

Which Pokémon is the weakest in battle?
There is no single answer without naming the game, format, and measure. Magikarp and Unown are familiar candidates when the discussion is about restricted battle options. Wishiwashi (Solo Form) and Shedinja feature in a 2026 secondary list for different stat-related reasons. None of these examples alone proves which Pokémon performs worst across all games.
Quick Recap
What to look for in a credible ranking
- A named scope: the game, generation, or competitive format being ranked.
- A consistent rule: whether the comparison is about stats, moves, form mechanics, or results in that format.
- Form-specific wording: especially when the claim concerns Wishiwashi.
- Evidence that matches the claim: community reputation can explain a familiar example, but it does not establish a current competitive result.
