Roku was never a replacement for an Xbox, PlayStation, gaming PC, or modern cloud-gaming service. Around January 2021, however, its channel ecosystem offered a modest selection of arcade, puzzle, word, sports, and casual games that could be played on a television with a Roku remote.
This is a retrospective of the 15 games highlighted by TechJunkie’s January 2021-era list. The original page displays a June 3, 2021 author date, and its old channel links should not be treated as proof that every title remains available in 2026.

Quick verdict
- Best overall arcade pick: Galaga — the clearest fit for short, score-chasing sessions.
- Best simple classic: Snake — easy to understand and suitable for almost any player.
- Best puzzle picks: Tiles and Sudoku Deluxe — better choices than action games for relaxed play.
- Best variety channel: FREE Games — potentially more useful than a single mini-game, although its catalog could change.
- Best deeper experiences: Anna Montana and RUN CMD — comparatively fuller games rather than one-screen diversions.
These are editorial judgments based on the original descriptions, not results from independent testing or a current Roku catalog audit.
What counted as a Roku game?
In this context, a Roku game was a channel or app available through Roku’s channel ecosystem. The games were generally lightweight and designed for remote control. They included classic arcade adaptations, simple puzzles, word games, casual sports, small independent titles, and one channel containing multiple mini-games.

The original article said most games were free or included free elements with paid add-ons, but it did not provide a consistent title-by-title price table. Treat pricing, advertising, in-app purchases, and subscriptions as unverified unless the current Roku listing says otherwise.
The 15 games, organized by player type
Best for retro arcade fans
1. Galaga — best overall arcade choice
What it is: A fixed-screen alien shooter built around enemy waves, lives, power-ups, and escalating difficulty.
Why it stood out: It was the original article’s main recommendation and offered the most immediately recognizable arcade structure on the list. The article also described a claimed 250-level progression; that figure should be attributed to the source rather than treated as an independently verified specification.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteBest for: Solo players who enjoy score chasing and repeated short sessions.
Controls and depth: The basic premise suits directional remote control, although a Roku remote is not equivalent to an arcade stick or gamepad. Its wave-based structure gives it more replay value than a one-off mini-game.
Verdict: The safest first try for a Roku owner seeking a traditional arcade game.
2. Pac-Man Championship Edition
What it is: A Roku adaptation of a Pac-Man sequel with maze-based arcade play.
Why it stood out: It had the strongest major-franchise pedigree in the collection. The original writer noted that it could be played with a remote but preferred a joystick, an important warning for anyone expecting precise movement.
Best for: Pac-Man fans and players who want a more recognizable premium-franchise experience.
Controls and depth: Direction changes and timing are central, so the remote may feel limiting. The source does not establish current controller compatibility, multiplayer support, or present-day availability.
Verdict: Potentially one of the more appealing games here, provided the control method suits you.

What it is: A shooter with a reverse-ammunition mechanic: absorb enemy fire, then use that ammunition against enemies.
Best for: Players who want an arcade shooter with a twist rather than a straightforward shooting loop.
Controls and depth: The mechanic gives it more strategic identity than a generic shooter, but rapid movement and aiming can expose the limits of remote control.
Rank #2
- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
Verdict: A distinctive choice for arcade fans who have already tried Galaga.

4. Tiles
What it is: A puzzle game notable for player-created levels and the ability to create and share puzzles, according to the original article.
Best for: Players who value variety and community-created content over reflexes.
Controls and depth: Puzzle gameplay should be a natural fit for a remote. User-created levels could provide stronger replay value than a fixed sequence, although the source does not establish how active or extensive that content was.
Verdict: One of the most interesting recommendations for someone who wants more than a five-minute diversion.

What it is: Traditional Sudoku based on placing numbers without repeating them across rows, columns, and boxes.
Best for: Quiet solo play, older players, and anyone who prefers thinking time to fast action.
Controls and depth: A remote is well suited to selecting cells and numbers, though entering answers can be slower than using a touchscreen or keyboard. Replay value depends on the available puzzle variety and difficulty settings.
Verdict: A practical Roku choice when the television is being used for relaxed puzzle solving.

6. Text Twist
What it is: A word game in which you form words from a random set of letters, with timed and untimed modes.
Best for: Word-game fans and players who want a less reflex-dependent option.
Controls and depth: The remote makes letter entry less convenient than a phone or keyboard, but timed and untimed play offer different levels of pressure.
Verdict: A good fit for casual solo play, particularly if you prefer vocabulary challenges to action.

- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
Best for: Almost anyone who wants a familiar game with rules that can be explained in seconds.
Controls and depth: Its simple directional input is well matched to a Roku remote. The increasing length creates a natural difficulty curve, although each attempt is short.
Verdict: The original article’s runner-up and arguably the easiest recommendation for a mixed group.
8. Rainbow Dash
What it is: An endless-runner-style game involving bouncing and coloring.
Best for: Players who enjoy quick, repeatable attempts and bright, simple action.
Controls and depth: The endless format supports score chasing, but the source does not provide detailed button mappings or performance information.
Verdict: A lightweight option when you want something immediately playable rather than substantial.

9. Air Hockey
What it is: Computer-versus-player air hockey.
Best for: A quick competitive-feeling session against the on-screen opponent.
Controls and depth: Paddle control can be awkward with a standard remote, and the source does not verify local multiplayer or support for multiple controllers.
Verdict: Worth trying for the concept, but do not assume it is a two-player party game.
10. Downhill Bowling 2
What it is: Bowling through ramps, terrain, obstacles, power-ups, bombs, points, and coins.
Best for: Players who want an arcade interpretation of bowling rather than realistic simulation.
Controls and depth: Its obstacle-course structure gives it more variety than ordinary bowling, while the remote should be sufficient if the game uses simple directional and selection inputs. Exact controls were not documented in the source.
Verdict: A playful short-session option, especially for people who find standard bowling games too slow.
Rank #4

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBest for: Players looking for a free, uncomplicated sports diversion.
Controls and depth: The original article specifically acknowledged that remote control could make it challenging. Do not assume support for motion controls, a dedicated controller, or multiplayer.
Verdict: Easy to sample, but the remote may be the main limitation.
Best for something more substantial
12. Anna Montana
What it is: A story and time-management game that the source describes as having remastered HD graphics.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Best for: Players who want objectives and a more developed structure instead of a single arcade mechanic.
Controls and depth: Time-management play should be less demanding than a shooter, but the source does not provide completion length, performance measurements, or detailed controls.
Verdict: One of the better choices for someone who wants a game with a sense of progression.
13. RUN CMD
What it is: A retro run-and-gun platform shooter involving running, jumping, shooting, multiple areas, and an escape premise.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Best for: Players seeking a more traditional action-platformer format.
Controls and depth: This style of game places greater demands on movement and timing, making the Roku remote more consequential. The source does not verify controller support or current compatibility.
Verdict: An appealing experiment for action fans, but not the title to choose if remote precision is your priority.
14. Super Stickman Golf
What it is: An arcade golf game with 32 courses, unusual environments, power-ups, and a hole-in-one objective.
Recommended Free Tools

How to add games to a Roku
The original article described three routes: use Roku’s web channel store, browse directly on the Roku device, or follow the individual download links attached to its listings.
- Open the Roku channel store or, historically, choose Home → Streaming Channels → Games.
- Select the game or channel.
- Choose the option to add it.
- Return to the Roku home screen or Games area and launch it.
- If a channel added through the website does not appear promptly, check for a system update using the historical path Settings → System → System Update.
Roku’s labels, categories, synchronization behavior, and channel availability may have changed since 2021. If a title cannot be found in the official store, avoid unofficial downloads or sideloading and look for an official alternative on another platform.
Important limitations
Availability is historical, not guaranteed
The 15 titles were recommendations for the January 2021-era Roku catalog. The original page remains accessible, but the available evidence does not verify that every channel still exists, works on current Roku hardware, or is available in every country in 2026. Check the official Roku channel store before relying on any individual listing.
A Roku remote is not a gamepad
Remote control is adequate for turn-based puzzles and simple directional games, but it can be uncomfortable for aiming, rapid movement, paddle control, or precise timing. The original article specifically preferred a joystick for Pac-Man Championship Edition and noted the difficulty of Ping Pong Free with a remote. Controller compatibility is title- and hardware-specific and is not established for this list.
Do not assume multiplayer or child suitability
Some games may be suitable for casual family play, but the source does not establish local multiplayer, online multiplayer, multiple-controller support, or formal age ratings. Those features should be checked in the current listing.
What to do if a game is missing
Search Roku’s current Games category and the official channel store first. If the title has disappeared, check whether its publisher offers an official version for a phone, tablet, computer, console, or another television platform. A separate streaming or gaming device is a better fit for modern action games than buying Roku primarily for gaming.
For streaming-first households that simply want occasional entertainment, Roku games can still make sense as a bonus. For serious gaming, the platform’s casual catalog and remote controls are the wrong foundation.
