The 2025 Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual has been available globally since February 18, 2025. It contains over 500 creatures, including 87 new stat blocks, and is designed for use with the revised core rules. Although D&D Beyond labels its digital source page “Monster Manual (2024),” the publisher identifies the book as the 2025 Monster Manual.
When did the 2025 Monster Manual come out?
The book’s global release date was February 18, 2025, according to D&D Beyond’s release-day announcement. Eligible local game stores had early access beginning February 4, 2025; the D&D Beyond release calendar specifies in-store sales or in-person pickup, not online or shipped orders.
Those dates establish when the book was released, not whether a particular retailer has it in stock now or what it costs.
What changed from the 2014 Monster Manual?
D&D Beyond describes the 2025 book as containing over 500 creatures and 87 new stat blocks. It also reports that 59 stat blocks have name changes or Challenge Rating-appropriate replacements. The publisher does not give an exact creature total in its announcement, so “over 500” is the supported figure.

The new book replaces all monster stat blocks in the 2014 Monster Manual when playing with the 2025 rules. D&D Beyond says every monster from the 2014 book appears in the new one or has a Challenge Rating-appropriate replacement. That means the update is not simply a collection of additional creatures: some entries are revised, renamed, or represented by a suitable replacement.
Can you use the 2025 Monster Manual with older adventures?
Yes. The book is designed for the revised core rules, but its creatures can also be used when running older published material. If an adventure refers to a stat block you cannot find, D&D Beyond directs readers to the conversion table in Appendix B. Use it to identify a corresponding entry when a monster is missing, renamed, or replaced.

What is inside the book?
The official digital source page begins with an introduction explaining how to use monsters, including guidance on stat blocks and monster entries. The appendices provide reference material for finding creatures:
- Appendix A: Animals — animal entries.
- Appendix B: Monster Lists — conversion guidance and lists organized by habitat, creature type, group, and Challenge Rating.
This structure makes the book both a collection of creature entries and a lookup reference for selecting and running monsters. The contents and appendix labels are shown on D&D Beyond’s digital source page.

Are all printings and digital entries identical?
Not necessarily. The official Monster Manual errata says its corrections and clarifications appear in recent printings, and the digital source has also been updated. If a rule or creature detail needs to be accurate, check the current official digital text and errata rather than assuming every printed copy has the same corrections.
