Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteNo: the $54 price is not a current offer verified as of August 18, 2026. It came from an Amazon promotion reported on September 6, 2025: the white 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller was marked down to $60, then an on-page coupon brought the checkout price to $54. The official 8BitDo shop now lists it at $69.99 and marks it sold out. Engadget’s original deal report and 8BitDo’s shop listing document the difference.
Which 8BitDo controller was in the deal?
The product was the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller for Switch/Switch 2 & Windows PC. That full model name matters: 8BitDo also sells an Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller and other similarly named controllers, and their platform support is not interchangeable.
In particular, 8BitDo’s compatibility table for the Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller lists Windows, Android, Apple devices and SteamOS, but not Nintendo Switch or Switch 2. For Nintendo use, check the exact Bluetooth model and its official compatibility information rather than relying on “Ultimate 2” alone.
What did the $54 offer actually require?
In Engadget’s September 6, 2025 report, the white controller’s advertised sale price was $60, down from a reported $69.99 list price. A separate Amazon coupon reduced the final price to $54. The coupon was limited to the white color; $54 was not the regular price or a discount that necessarily applied to other colors.

That promotion is historical, not a live offer established here. Amazon listings and coupons can change by color, seller, inventory and account. If you find a listing, check the seller and the final checkout total, including whether the coupon is still available, before buying. The official 8BitDo shop page checked August 18, 2026 showed $69.99 and “Sale Sold out,” not a $54 purchase option.
Does the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller work with Switch 2?
Yes, according to 8BitDo’s official compatibility page for the Ultimate Bluetooth Controller: it lists Nintendo Switch 2 on system software version 20.1.1 and above. The page also lists Nintendo Switch version 3.0.0 and above, SteamOS Holo 3.4 and above, and Windows 10 and above. Compatibility and setup can depend on controller and adapter firmware, so check 8BitDo’s current instructions before connecting, especially after a console system update.

What you get—and what you give up
Features that make it appealing
The Ultimate 2 Bluetooth is a full-size, asymmetrical controller with TMR thumbsticks, trigger-mode switches, two rear programmable buttons, extra shoulder buttons, motion control, vibration, three custom profiles and RGB lighting around the sticks. Do not assume that every specification listed for the separate Ultimate 2 Wireless applies to the Bluetooth version. For example, 8BitDo lists 1,000Hz polling over 2.4G and wired connections for the Ultimate 2 Wireless; those specifications should not be carried over to this Switch 2 deal model without confirmation in its own documentation.
Compatibility is not the same as first-party convenience
GamesRadar’s Switch 2 controller testing reported that setup involved updating both the controller and dongle, and that connecting for play could require a button combination. It also found that the controller could not wake Switch 2 from sleep. The review noted that it lacks amiibo support. If waking the console with the controller or using amiibo matters to you, those are meaningful reasons to choose Nintendo’s controller instead.

RGB lighting can increase battery consumption; GamesRadar identified that as a drawback. You can reduce or turn off lighting through the controller’s software, but no precise battery-life improvement is established here.

- Check the product box or listing for the exact name: Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller.
- Use 8BitDo’s current support tools to update the controller and included adapter, following the instructions for the exact model.
- Set the controller to the correct Switch mode, then connect or pair it using the included 2.4G adapter or the supported connection method in 8BitDo’s instructions.
- Test the controls and connection before putting away the packaging. Keep a Joy-Con 2 or another controller available if you rely on waking the console from sleep.

How does its price compare with Nintendo’s Pro Controller?
| Controller | Price information | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller | $54 after coupon in the white-only Amazon promotion reported September 6, 2025; $60 before coupon. The official shop showed $69.99 and sold out on August 18, 2026. | More extra controls and a dock for less than Nintendo’s controller at the historical deal price; lacks amiibo support and Switch 2 sleep-wake support in GamesRadar testing. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller | $99.99 in GamesRadar’s coverage; see Nintendo’s official product page for current availability and price. | Costs more, but is the fit for buyers prioritizing Nintendo’s own controller features and integration. |
At the historical $54 checkout price, the 8BitDo was $15.99 below the reported $69.99 list price—about 23% off before tax. At the reported $60 sale price before coupon, it was $9.99 below list. At $69.99, it is less compelling purely as a bargain; its value depends on whether you prefer its extra buttons, dock and stick technology to Nintendo-specific convenience.
Quick Recap
Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want an Xbox-style layout, rear programmable buttons, motion controls and a charging dock, and are comfortable with firmware updates and a less streamlined connection process.
- Skip it if you need amiibo support, want to wake Switch 2 from sleep with the controller, or prefer the most direct first-party setup.
- Do not substitute the Ultimate 2 Wireless just because its name looks similar. Its official platform list does not include Nintendo Switch or Switch 2.
