How is the best Legendary Pokémon in each generation judged?
The shortlist uses five qualitative tests rather than an invented score:
- Lore centrality: whether the Pokémon explains the region’s main myth or conflict.
- Distinctive identity: whether its concept, typing, and visual role are immediately recognizable.

Why is Giratina the standout Legendary of Generation IV?
