Grounded is the best starting point for most PS5 players who want an Aloft-style creative co-op sandbox. Choose ARK: Survival Ascended or 7 Days to Die for Conan Exiles-style danger, fortification and multiplayer pressure. The two games named in the question are not PS5 releases yet: Funcom and PlayStation announced both for early 2027, without a day, price or physical-edition details. What are Aloft and Conan Exiles Enhanced, and why are they different?
Aloft and Conan Exiles Enhanced share open-world survival DNA, but they target opposite moods. Aloft is a colorful, restoration-focused co-op sandbox in which islands become flying ships. Conan is a harsher Hyborian-world survival MMO-style game built around fortresses, thralls, official servers and the possibility of PvP conflict.

Aloft is the cozy, creative reference point
The developer and publisher describe Aloft as “a feel-good, cozy survival game set in the clouds, where you can transform any island into a flying ship and explore the vast skies.” You build a helm, rudder and sails, turn an island into a mobile home, farm, care for animals, glide between landmasses and repair ecosystems damaged by fungus. Hurricanes and combat provide danger, but the stated design goal is rewarding positive action rather than punishing mistakes.
Astrolabe Interactive has developed Aloft for six years, growing from a small group of friends into a studio. Steam Early Access began on 15 January 2025. The PS5 version is planned as the complete 1.0 game, not an Early Access conversion, with new content, stories and improvements included at launch. Five major PC updates have already added wildlife, puzzles, combat improvements, glider customization and expanded exploration.

Solo play, private joining and public lobbies are supported. The Steam store page lists groups of up to eight players, meaning one host and up to seven other players. Aloft’s 1.0 PS5 price, exact date, physical disc, cross-play and cross-save have not been announced. The Steam note that its price will likely rise at 1.0 applies to the PC release and is not a PS5 price.

Steam user sentiment is useful context but not a console review: 84% of 1,978 English user reviews rated Aloft Very Positive, while 70% of 27 recent reviews from the last 30 days rated it Mostly Positive (Steam, 2026; page accessed 30 October 2026).
Conan Exiles Enhanced is the brutal, persistent-world reference
Conan Exiles launched on 8 May 2018. Its Enhanced edition is an Unreal Engine 5 upgrade with Lumen Global Illumination, Nanite Geometry and Virtual Shadow Maps, alongside revised foliage, water, lighting, terrain, armor, buildings and interface features. On PC, Funcom released it as a free update in May 2026 and reduced the client from 120GB to 68GB.
The console Enhanced release is scheduled for early 2027 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Existing PlayStation owners receive it free; buying either the PS4 or PS5 version provides both Enhanced and Legacy access. Funcom says full cross-play will arrive soon after launch, rather than promising it on day one. Enhanced also adds smoother travel between the Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah on one character and server, three single-player/co-op save slots, crafting from storage and a redesigned user interface. Isle of Siptah remains a separate purchase.
Funcom’s tone is closer to Robert E. Howard’s line from A Witch Shall Be Born: “… not all men seek rest and peace; some are born with the spirit of the storm in their blood, restless harbingers of violence and bloodshed …” That is literary atmosphere, not a quoted gameplay guarantee.
Which Aloft-like survival games can you play on PS5 now?
For floating-island creativity, low-friction co-op and exploration without constant griefing, these are the strongest current substitutes.
1. Grounded — the best first survival game
Grounded miniaturizes its players in a backyard full of insects, improvised shelters and escalating hazards. It has the cleanest onboarding in this group, real hunger and thirst systems, approachable base defense and co-op for up to three friends. Games Genie named it “Best for newcomers to the genre” and scored it 88% (5 September 2026). It is a native PS5 release and the closest all-round bridge between Aloft’s friendliness and a traditional survival loop.

- Expect: combat and defense to become more important than they are in Aloft’s restoration-first design.
2. Abiotic Factor — co-op survival with a science-fiction twist
Abiotic Factor places a co-op crew inside a research facility where crafting, scavenging and base defense turn a workplace into a survival complex. Its humor and structured setting make it less serene than Aloft, but its teamwork loop maps well to players who want a shared home and tasks rather than an always-hostile wilderness. Games Genie scored it 84% and called it “Best for co-op survival with a crew.” The native PS5 version arrived in 2025 and is described as running smoothly.
3. No Man’s Sky — the softest large-scale option
No Man’s Sky keeps resource gathering, hazards and life support at the center while expanding the canvas to a galaxy. Survival pressure can be softened, so it suits players who value discovery, construction and travel more than hunger timers. Games Genie scored it 86%; the current version is native on PS5.
4. Pacific Drive — a different kind of survival loop
Pacific Drive replaces a conventional base with a station wagon that must be repaired and upgraded between dangerous excursions. It is less social and offers less freeform construction than Aloft, but its route-planning, resource decisions and atmospheric exploration make it a strong choice when you want survival systems without another conventional island or fortress. Games Genie scored it 85% and called it “Best for something genuinely different.” It is native PS5.
Minecraft — the flexible honorable mention
Minecraft remains the cleanest survival template: gather, craft, build and decide how much danger to accept. Difficulty, server rules and creative tools let a group make it gentler or harsher than Aloft. It is widely available on PS5, but its presentation and progression are deliberately open-ended rather than story-led.

These picks emphasize scarcity, combat, territorial building or multiplayer threats rather than Aloft’s restorative tone.
1. ARK: Survival Ascended — taming and long-term progression
ARK: Survival Ascended combines environmental danger with dinosaur taming, resource chains and large construction projects. It is the closest current substitute for Conan’s sense of building a foothold in a dangerous world, especially if your group enjoys progression that can consume dozens of sessions. The game is available on PS5, and physical PS5 editions are an established retail route.
2. 7 Days to Die — fortify before the Blood Moon
7 Days to Die turns a recurring horde event into a construction deadline. Scavenge by day, reinforce a defensible position and prepare for the Blood Moon assault. The PS5 build delivers the intended loop, although the console version is still described as jankier than PC. Games Genie scored it 84%.

3. Dune: Awakening — Funcom’s live survival MMO
Dune: Awakening is already on PS5, making it the immediate Funcom alternative while Conan Enhanced is pending. Heat, water scarcity, sandworms and a shared-world structure create a more MMO-like experience than Grounded or Aloft. Funcom’s Jarle Hrafn Grindhaug said on 27 October 2026, “We’ve just launched Dune: Awakening on PlayStation 5, but we’re only getting started.” Games Genie gave it an 83% honorable mention.
4. V Rising — castle survival with action combat
V Rising asks you to build and defend a vampire castle while sunlight, blood supplies and enemy territories dictate when you can travel. Its combat is more action-focused than Conan’s, but the combination of a personal stronghold, resource pressure and multiplayer conflict makes it a good fit for players who want a threatening world around a base. Games Genie scored it 84%, and the PS5 release is native.

Wait for Conan Exiles Enhanced if you already own Conan Exiles or specifically want the upgraded Exiled Lands, Siptah travel and the Giant-Kings story arc on console. The console launch includes that arc, while Part Three is dated 10 November 2026 on PC; that PC date is not a confirmed PS5 day-one patch date.
Play now instead of waiting when the distinction matters more than the brand. Grounded is the safest first purchase, Abiotic Factor is the best small-crew alternative, ARK and 7 Days to Die deliver harsher building pressure, and Dune: Awakening is the live Funcom option on PS5.

What changes when Conan Exiles Enhanced replaces the Legacy workflow?

What carries forward
- Official Exiled Lands characters, followers and bases carry into Enhanced.
- Crom Coins, Bazaar items, downloadable content and Twitch Drops carry into Enhanced.
- Single-player and co-op receive three save slots, while Enhanced adds storage-based crafting and the redesigned interface.
What does not carry back to Legacy
- Purchases made in Enhanced do not apply to Legacy.
- After the Enhanced launch, Crom Coins are no longer valid in Legacy and the Legacy Bazaar is disabled. Spend existing currency before the cutover if you intend to keep playing Legacy.
- Legacy receives only critical-bug updates, has no new major content or Bazaar, and loses official servers after the cutover. Single-player and private servers remain playable.
The two irreversible save traps
- Isle of Siptah bases: they cannot be preserved because integrating Siptah changed the island’s physical coordinates.
- Single-player saves: loading a save in Enhanced prevents opening it in Legacy. If you cannot back up the save file from your console, that change is permanent.
Funcom says it plans to support Enhanced with new content across all platforms throughout 2027 and beyond. The current PlayStation Store listing for the existing console product is Conan Exiles Legacy, so check which edition you are selecting before starting a long-term server or single-player world.
