- Extract the downloaded
.zipor.rararchive. - Move the extracted mod files to
Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. - Launch The Sims 4.
- Open Game Options.
- Select Other.
- Check Enable Custom Content and Mods.
- Relaunch the game.
If the Mods folder is missing, create it inside Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. The archive must be extracted; placing the downloaded ZIP or RAR file directly in the folder will not install the mod.
EA’s current help page names the setting Enable Custom Content and Mods. Instructions that focus only on an older “Script Mods Allowed” label may be outdated, so follow the current in-game wording and relaunch after enabling mods.

Gameplay mods can break, become obsolete, or temporarily remain uncleared after a Sims 4 update. A mod that worked before the patch is not automatically compatible afterward.
The EA Forums’ patch tracker recorded compatibility changes around patch 1.124, including updates on May 12 and May 21, 2026. It also recorded MCCC 2026.3.0 as initially not cleared for that patch and later updated. This is why compatibility must be checked after every significant game update.

- Check the mod’s current release page rather than an old download article.
- Confirm that the release supports your game version.
- Update or temporarily remove incompatible gameplay mods.
- Launch the game and test a backup save before continuing your main save.
There is no single latest compatible version that applies to every mod. For example, the supplied listings associate MCCC 2026.4.0 with 1.125.59, while WonderfulWhims v60 is associated with 1.126.58. Those different compatibility ceilings show why each mod must be checked separately.
Troubleshooting: why a mod does not appear
The mod is missing from the game
- Confirm that the archive was extracted.
- Check that the extracted files are inside the
Modsfolder. - Verify that Enable Custom Content and Mods is checked under Game Options > Other.
- Close and relaunch the game after changing the setting.
The game updated and the mod stopped working
Check the mod’s official release page and patch information. Do not keep assuming that an older version is safe because it loaded successfully before the update. Remove or update the mod until its creator confirms compatibility with your game version.
You only want part of MCCC
MCCC states that modules can be removed when you do not want particular functionality. Consult its official module documentation before deleting files so you understand which features depend on which components.
You are unsure which WonderfulWhims commands work
Enter ww.commands in-game to display the commands available in your installed version. This avoids relying on syntax from an older release.

Download from trusted creators or established sources, keep backups of important saves, and remove outdated files rather than stacking multiple versions of the same mod. When a mod changes core gameplay systems, test it with a backup save after an update.
