The best X870E motherboard depends on what your build needs: the ASUS ProArt X870E-Creator WiFi stands out on documented connectivity, the MSI X870E Gaming Plus WiFi offers a clearly specified three-slot M.2 layout, and the ASRock X870E Taichi is a premium-feature option. For an unusually expansive high-end build, MSI’s MEG X870E Ace Max and Godlike X Edition add more storage capacity at listed prices that make them a different class of purchase. These are feature-based picks, not results of comparative testing.

Feature lists do not establish which board is fastest, most reliable, or best value. Board-specific operation, pricing, and availability can vary; check the exact specification and manual for the configuration you plan to build.
How to choose the right board
Start with the devices and storage you will actually use
Count the M.2 drives you expect to install, then check each slot’s generation and source. The MSI Gaming Plus WiFi, for example, has one CPU-sourced PCIe 5.0 x4 slot and two chipset-sourced PCIe 4.0 x4 slots. That is more useful than simply seeing “three M.2 slots” if your plan depends on a particular connection speed.
For high-speed external devices, check the rear I/O port list rather than relying on the X870E name. ASUS documents two USB4 ports on the ProArt board, while its overview also specifies multiple USB 10Gbps ports and a USB 20Gbps Type-C port. Wired-network needs can be equally decisive: its listed 10 Gb and 2.5 Gb Ethernet options are unusual, concrete differentiators for a suitable network setup.

Match the board to the case and budget
Form factor affects whether a board fits, not just how it looks in a product photo. The Godlike X Edition is E-ATX, so confirm the case supports its dimensions and that there is room for connectors, cooling, and cable routing. Premium-board prices in review tables are useful as dated reference points, not promises of current stock or checkout prices.
Do not treat chipset maximums as board guarantees
AMD lists X870E with up to 44 usable PCIe lanes, up to 24 PCIe 5.0 lanes, USB4, processor overclocking, and DDR5 memory overclocking support in its AM5 chipset specifications. These are platform-level figures. A board’s actual slots, port count, lane routing, and simultaneous operating behavior depend on the board design and processor; verify those details in its own manual and specification page.

What makes each pick distinctive
ASUS ProArt X870E-Creator WiFi: connectivity-first choice
Its documented combination of two USB4 ports, 10 Gb and 2.5 Gb Ethernet, seven USB 10Gbps ports, and a USB 20Gbps Type-C port makes it a plausible fit for a build with fast external peripherals or multi-gigabit wired networking. The feature list does not establish that a particular creative workflow will be faster; confirm that your devices, network, and software can use the connections.
ASRock X870E Taichi: premium enthusiast option
ASRock lists support for Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 processors on AM5, PCIe Gen5 graphics and M.2 support, and two USB4 ports. Those specifications support considering it for a premium system, but do not demonstrate a performance or value advantage over another X870E board.

MSI X870E Gaming Plus WiFi: clearly specified three-slot M.2 layout
MSI identifies one CPU-sourced PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slot and two chipset-sourced PCIe 4.0 x4 slots. It also notes that processor choice affects supported link speed. If you will populate several M.2 slots or add expansion cards, consult the manual for lane sharing and the exact processor-specific behavior before buying.
MSI MEG X870E Ace Max and Godlike X Edition: costly storage expansion
PC Gamer’s review tables list five M.2 slots on the Ace Max at $699, £599, and AU$1,322. The Godlike X Edition table lists five onboard M.2 slots plus two positions through an adapter at $1,299.99 and £1,249.99. These prices were listed in the review tables and are not verified current retail prices. The Godlike’s E-ATX size is a practical constraint; do not choose it without checking case fit and whether the extra storage positions justify the added cost for your build.

Compatibility checks before you buy
- Confirm processor support. Check the board’s CPU support list and any BIOS version required for your exact Ryzen processor. Do not assume that AM5 socket compatibility alone confirms out-of-box support.
- Check memory support for the exact kit. MSI cautions that supported memory compatibility and speeds vary with CPU and memory configuration; consult the manufacturer’s memory QVL and support information. MSI memory support list
- Review lane sharing and slot operation. Use the board manual to check whether installing an M.2 drive changes PCIe slot operation or disables another connector, and verify processor-dependent link speeds.
- Verify physical fit. Check the motherboard’s dimensions against the case’s supported form factors, with particular care for the E-ATX Godlike X Edition.
- Plan power and cooling. Confirm the power supply, CPU cooler, GPU clearance, and airflow suit the processor and other components you intend to install.
