Yes—Genki’s Covert Dock 3 is a credible shared travel dock for Nintendo Switch 2, ROG Xbox Ally, and ROG Xbox Ally X. It combines a 65W GaN charger with HDMI display output and one USB-A port, so it can replace a larger dock in a travel bag. It is not a full desktop dock, however, and its 65W rating does not guarantee maximum-performance charging or gaming on every Ally-family configuration.
The practical verdict is simple: buy it if you want one small charger-dock for multiple handhelds and occasional TV or monitor use. Choose a larger dock—or Nintendo’s first-party dock for a permanent Switch 2 setup—if you need Ethernet, multiple accessories, card readers, audio, multiple displays, or the fewest possible compatibility variables.
What the Covert Dock 3 actually is
The Genki Covert Dock 3 is best understood as a travel charger with video output and basic accessory support, rather than a desktop docking station.
- Built-in 65W GaN power adapter
- HDMI output for a TV, monitor, or projector
- One USB-A port for a controller, keyboard, mouse, or other accessory
- Foldable prongs for easier packing
- Advertised HDR and VRR support
- Compatibility with Switch 2 and a range of handhelds, phones, tablets, and laptops
Genki’s US product page showed a $69.99 sale price and “in stock” status in the latest available snapshot, but price and availability can change. Check the product page before buying. Also verify the selected regional bundle: Genki advertises international use, while customer feedback on the product page indicates that travel adapters may be optional rather than included in every package. An HDMI cable may also need to be supplied separately.

Plug in your Switch or other gaming handhelds to enjoy big screen play and connect accessories without extra adapters or a bulky original dock
- 【4K@120Hz HDMI】Bring your games to the big screen with 4K@120Hz output and crisp, smooth visuals on your TV. For Switch, cast to your TV in seconds and jump into TV mode anytime. Note: For Switch, video output is limited to 4K@60Hz due to official system limitations
- 【65W PD Fast Charging While You Play】With up to 65W USB C PD output, this dock keeps your Switch charging fast in TV mode while you play. It can also charge phones, tablets, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and USB C laptops, so one compact charger covers work, gaming, and travel
- 【USB A 2.0 Port】The USB A 2.0 port supports up to 480 Mbps data transfer and 5V 0.6A output, ideal for keyboards, USB wireless receivers or drives, so your Switch can easily manage game data and connect compatible accessories. Note: The Switch doesn’t support third party controllers. We recommend using the Switch Pro Controller, or wireless Bluetooth controllers
- 【Wide Compatibility Portable Dock】Smaller and lighter than the original Switch dock, this 65W charger slips easily into any Switch bag and works with Switch / Steam Deck / ROG Ally / Samsung DeX / iPad / MacBook and more, so you can travel light and still enjoy TV mode gaming anywhere
Genki also describes pairing the dock with its ShadowCast 3 for capture or streaming to a laptop or tablet. That accessory is unnecessary for ordinary TV or monitor output.
Switch 2 compatibility: a useful travel replacement, not a perfect substitute
Genki explicitly markets the Covert Dock 3 for Switch 2. In practical terms, it is intended to charge the console and send its video output to an external display, making it useful when you do not want to pack Nintendo’s larger official dock.
That makes the Covert Dock 3 particularly attractive for hotels, visits to friends, tournaments, and other situations where the console normally travels between locations. Its charger and dock functions are integrated, reducing the number of separate pieces in your bag.
There are still important qualifications:
- You need a suitable HDMI cable and a TV, monitor, or projector that accepts the desired output mode.
- HDR and VRR depend on the display, cable, console settings, and the mode supported by the connected screen.
- Genki advertises HDR and VRR, but its product page does not establish a complete universal resolution-and-refresh-rate matrix.
- A third-party dock is not officially made by Nintendo, and future console firmware updates could affect compatibility.
For a permanent home setup, Nintendo’s official Switch 2 dock remains the lower-uncertainty choice for buyers who prioritize first-party support. The Covert Dock 3’s advantage is portability and cross-device use, not feature parity with every aspect of Nintendo’s dock.
ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X compatibility
The ROG Xbox Ally family has the USB-C capabilities needed for this type of dock. ASUS lists DisplayPort video output and USB Power Delivery on both models, while specifying a 65W USB-C adapter for each. That makes the Covert Dock 3 a logical match for basic charging and external-display use.
| Device | Relevant USB-C capabilities | What that means for the Covert Dock 3 |
|---|---|---|
| ROG Xbox Ally | Two USB-C ports with DisplayPort and power-delivery support | Either compatible port can provide the basic video-and-power connection, subject to ASUS’s port behavior and software configuration. |
| ROG Xbox Ally X | One USB-C port with USB4/Thunderbolt 4 compatibility, DisplayPort 2.1, and USB Power Delivery 3.0; a second USB-C port also supports DisplayPort and PD | It has more capable connectivity on one port and may be better suited to demanding external-display setups, but the dock remains limited by its own HDMI and power design. |
These specifications establish technical suitability, not a guarantee that every display, game, driver, or charging mode will behave identically. ASUS’s specifications for the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X should be read alongside the limitations of the dock itself.

What 65W means in real use
“65W” describes the dock’s maximum power-delivery rating. It does not mean the handheld will always receive a full 65W.
The power available at the handheld can be reduced by the dock’s own overhead, USB Power Delivery negotiation, cable limitations, connected USB accessories, and the handheld’s charging rules. During a demanding game, the device may consume more power than it receives. The result could be slower charging, a battery that holds steady, or gradual battery drain rather than a guaranteed full-battery state.

ASUS specifying a 65W adapter for both ROG Xbox Ally models makes the rating a sensible match for normal docked operation. It does not prove that the Covert Dock 3 will reproduce every proprietary high-performance or turbo mode offered by ASUS. Do not buy it on the assumption that it guarantees maximum sustained performance while gaming.
The same principle applies to Switch 2: a compatible power connection is not a promise that every future firmware version or operating condition will behave exactly like Nintendo’s official dock.
HDR, VRR, and 4K/120Hz: separate the signal from the game
Genki advertises HDR and VRR support. Whether either feature works depends on the complete chain:
- The handheld model and USB-C port used
- The monitor or TV’s HDMI implementation
- The HDMI cable
- Windows, graphics-driver, and GPU settings on the ROG Xbox Ally
- Whether the game supports HDR or variable refresh
VRR should therefore be treated as a supported capability, not a universal guarantee. Some displays accept VRR over HDMI more reliably than others, and particular operating-system or driver configurations may expose or hide the option. Reports of VRR being unavailable in specific Ally-family setups show why the individual display and software configuration matter.

Independent testing has reported the Covert Dock 3 being used with Switch 2 and ROG Ally-family hardware across a 4K TV, QHD monitor, and 1080p projector. Tom’s Guide also reported high-refresh 4K output with more powerful handheld PCs, including the ROG Ally X, in its testing context. That does not mean every game will render internally at 4K and 120 frames per second. A dock may pass a 4K/120Hz display signal while the handheld renders the game at a lower resolution or frame rate.
The Ally X’s stronger hardware may make it better suited to high-refresh external displays than the standard Ally, but neither model should be assumed to run every title at native 4K/120Hz.
Ports: enough for travel, limited for a desk
The Covert Dock 3 provides the connections most travelers need:
- HDMI for an external display
- One USB-A port for a controller, keyboard, mouse, or similar accessory
- USB-C power-delivery functionality through its integrated charger design
It does not advertise the connectivity of a full desktop dock. There is no advertised Ethernet port, bank of USB-A or USB-C ports, built-in SD or microSD reader, 3.5mm audio jack, dedicated DisplayPort output, or convenient multi-monitor workstation setup.

One USB-A port is fine for a controller or wireless-dongle receiver. It is not enough for a complete desk arrangement involving storage, wired networking, a keyboard, a mouse, and other peripherals without adding a hub—and a hub introduces more cables, power demands, and compatibility variables.

If the screen does not work
- Confirm that the dock is connected to wall power.
- Try the other USB-C port on the ROG Xbox Ally or Ally X.
- Disconnect USB accessories temporarily.
- Try another HDMI cable rated for the desired resolution and refresh rate.
- Try another HDMI input or another TV, monitor, or projector.
- Reduce the output resolution or refresh rate.
- On Windows, open display settings and use the option to detect an external display.
- Restart the handheld with the dock and display already connected.
- Temporarily disable HDR or VRR if the screen repeatedly blanks.
- Check Genki’s support pages for current compatibility or firmware information before assuming the dock has failed.
Do not assume that a blank screen proves the dock is defective. HDMI negotiation, cable bandwidth, display settings, drivers, and VRR or HDR compatibility can all produce similar symptoms.
Covert Dock 3 versus the alternatives
Nintendo’s official Switch 2 dock
Nintendo’s dock is the better fit for a permanent home installation or for buyers who want first-party console support and the fewest third-party compatibility concerns. The Covert Dock 3 is smaller, includes its charger, and can serve other USB-C handhelds, but it should be viewed as a travel alternative rather than a universal replacement.
Official-dock pricing and stock vary by region, so check Nintendo’s local store rather than relying on an old comparison price.
ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock
The ROG 100W Gaming Charger Dock is a more ROG-focused alternative. Xbox describes it as a portable dock that charges the Xbox Ally while providing HDMI output and two USB-A ports. Its higher power rating and extra USB-A port make it more appealing to Ally owners who want additional headroom and accessories.
It is less compelling as a tiny shared Switch 2 travel charger, and the available information does not establish a current official retail price. Check the manufacturer’s current retail listing before comparing total cost.
Generic USB-C handheld docks
A larger USB-C dock may be the right choice if you need Ethernet, several USB ports, DisplayPort, card readers, audio, or multiple displays. However, do not assume that a dock marketed for a Steam Deck or laptop will automatically satisfy Switch 2 power and display requirements. Check the exact dock specifications and compatibility reports for your devices.

Who should buy the Covert Dock 3?
Buy it when you want:
- One compact dock for Switch 2 and an ROG Xbox Ally-family handheld
- A built-in charger for travel
- TV, monitor, or projector output with minimal luggage space
- Basic USB accessory support
- An alternative to buying and carrying multiple docks
- A foldable travel design and potentially international-power flexibility
Choose a larger dock when you need:
- Ethernet

- SD or microSD access
- A 3.5mm audio connection
- Multiple displays
- A permanent workstation setup
- More power headroom for sustained demanding gameplay
- The lowest possible compatibility risk for a single console
Verdict
The Covert Dock 3 is a strong travel-oriented solution for people who own, or regularly use, both a Switch 2 and an ROG Xbox Ally-family handheld. Its most important feature is not a headline resolution number; it is the ability to combine a small 65W charger, HDMI output, and basic USB support in one device.
Its limitations are equally clear. The single USB-A port makes it unsuitable as a complete desktop dock, 65W does not guarantee maximum charging or turbo performance, and HDR, VRR, and high-refresh output depend on the entire hardware-and-software chain. For home use, Nintendo’s official dock or a larger ROG-oriented dock may be preferable. For travelers who value one compact dock across two handheld ecosystems, the Covert Dock 3 is the more convenient proposition.
