The First Berserker: Khazan is a single-player action RPG built around challenging boss battles, hack-and-slash combat and a vivid 3D cel-shaded look. Calling it a “soulslike” is a useful comparison for readers drawn to demanding action games, but its official descriptions call it a hardcore action RPG rather than establishing a definitive genre label.
What is The First Berserker: Khazan about?
Set about 800 years before Dungeon & Fighter, the game follows General Khazan, who is falsely accused of treason and exiled to the mountains. His journey for revenge becomes a search for the truth behind the conspiracy that brought him down. SEGA’s March 28, 2025 launch announcement presents that premise as the beginning of Khazan’s story.

SEGA’s announcement says more than 800 million people worldwide have played the Dungeon & Fighter franchise. That is a franchise-wide figure, not sales or a player count for Khazan.

Brutality comes from the combat pitch
SEGA describes hack-and-slash combat, strategic battles, hardcore difficulty and demanding boss fights. PlayStation’s product page likewise emphasizes fighting diverse enemies and bosses, and calls the game a “hardcore Action RPG adventure.” These are publisher and storefront descriptions, not a review or a report of firsthand play.

The “soulslike” label is best understood as a reader-facing comparison to games known for difficult action and boss pressure. The official material cited here does not itself settle the game’s genre under that label, so players should not assume every familiar soulslike convention is present.
The look contrasts cel animation with textured environments
SEGA describes 3D cel-animation visuals that combine a cel-shaded appearance with realistic textures; PlayStation also calls the graphics 3D cel-shaded. The result is an anime-influenced presentation with a more textured, grounded surface, rather than a claim that the game uses conventional anime footage.

What platforms is The First Berserker: Khazan on?
The game is available for PC through Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. SEGA announced a global launch on March 28, 2025. PlayStation’s US product page lists March 27, 2025 as the PS5 release date; those dates reflect different official pages and should not be collapsed into a single territory-neutral date. Nexon’s March 25, 2025 notice provides the early-access and scheduled global-release context.

Is there a physical PS5 edition?
SEGA documented a PS5 package edition in its Japanese product information and announced PS5 package reservations in December 2024. That establishes that a physical PS5 product was announced; it does not establish current stock, pricing or availability at any particular retailer. The preorder bonus described in the December notice was a historical offer, not a promise that it remains available.
