No—you can’t romance your companions in The Outer Worlds 2, and there are no companion dating routes. The game does let you build meaningful relationships with its crew through their opinions, personal quests and reactions to your choices, but that is not a romance system. If you mean every named NPC, the available reporting does not establish an exhaustive answer beyond companions.
Can you romance companions in The Outer Worlds 2?
No. There are no companion romance options in The Outer Worlds 2. The companion reveal put it plainly: “no, you can’t sleep with them” (Obsidian’s companion reveal). After more than 50 hours with the game, PC Gamer’s post-release coverage likewise reported finding no romances, while allowing that a highly hidden or condition-locked exception could theoretically exist.

That evidence supports a clear practical answer about the crew: there is no companion romance system. It does not prove that no named non-companion NPC has any romance-adjacent interaction; the cited coverage does not catalogue every NPC interaction.

Game director Brandon Adler said romance did not fit his vision for the companions. He wanted the player to be close to the group without romance being a required part of those relationships. He also explained that romance takes time and development work that could instead go toward other companion reactions and narrative outcomes, such as characters leaving the party or responding to the player’s decisions (GamesRadar+’s interview with Adler).

Adler described the goal as relationships that feel organic and right for the characters, rather than a pre-planned checkbox. His comments explain the design intent for the companion system; they are not an exhaustive statement about every NPC in the game.
What relationship content is in the game instead?
Companions have opinions, faction connections, personal stakes and questlines. They react to player decisions, and some choices can have lasting consequences: Xbox Wire notes that sacrificing a companion can lock you out of that character’s questline (Xbox Wire’s companion overview). These are ways to shape a relationship and its outcome, not steps toward dating.

The six companions are Niles, Inez, Aza, Marisol, Tristen and Valerie. Each has a distinct role and faction connection, rather than a romance route to unlock (Xbox Wire; GameSpot’s companion reveal coverage).

Don’t treat approval or flirtatious dialogue as a way to unlock companion romance: the sources describe no romance progression or dating outcomes. Build bonds with companions because you want their reactions, quests and choices to matter to your playthrough—not because an approval threshold is known to lead to a romantic ending.
