For playing Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom with the Switch 2 in your hands, prioritize a case made for Switch 2 that protects the screen, then add a microSD Express card only if your downloads need more room. Nintendo’s Zelda 40th Anniversary case-and-screen-protector bundle is the exact themed option, but its U.S. listing showed it sold out on October 30, 2026, so check current regional stock before planning around it. A compatible USB-C power bank and a Switch 2-fit grip may help on trips, but the available information does not establish a specific best model for either.

Which Switch 2 accessories matter most for handheld Zelda?
For most players, the useful order is protection first, extra storage if your library needs it, and portable charging if your sessions outlast the console’s battery. A grip is a personal-fit decision rather than a proven upgrade, while a Pro Controller belongs to tabletop play rather than handheld play with the Joy-Con 2 attached.

- microSD Express: a conditional purchase for people adding digital games beyond the console’s usable internal capacity.
- Power bank: consider one for trips, but verify Switch 2 charging suitability at the product level rather than relying on a generic USB-C label.
- Handheld grip: consider only if you can confirm fit around the Joy-Con 2, ports, and any case you plan to use.
- Pro Controller and amiibo: optional extras for tabletop play or a particular collecting and game-feature interest, not necessities for handheld play.
The Switch 2’s 7.9-inch LCD has a 1920 × 1080 resolution, and the console is approximately 10.7 inches wide with Joy-Con 2 attached, according to Nintendo’s Switch 2 technical specifications. That size is one reason a properly sized case and a confirmed grip fit matter more than assuming an older accessory will work.
Specs that affect an accessory decision
These dimensions and limits are more useful than a generic “Switch compatible” label. The 7.9-inch display needs a protector cut for Switch 2, and the approximately 10.7-inch width with Joy-Con 2 attached determines whether a case closes without pressure on the sticks. Internal storage is 256GB of UFS memory, with some capacity reserved for system use, so the usable figure is lower than the number printed on the box.

Nintendo’s battery estimate is approximately 2 to 6.5 hours, depending on the game. It is a console-wide range, not a measured result for either Zelda title. Treat it as a planning range for a day out, not as a promise that a particular power bank will add a set number of hours. Nintendo also provides USB-C charging connectors on the top and bottom, which gives you more options for cable routing while holding the system.
The storage and battery numbers explain why some accessories are conditional. A player with physical game cards and a nearby outlet may need only a case. Someone downloading both Zelda Switch 2 Editions, updates, and other large games may value an Express card sooner. A commuter who plays for several hours away from power may prioritize a documented charging solution instead.
How these picks were selected
The priorities here are specific to Zelda played with the console held and Joy-Con 2 attached: fit the current hardware, protect the screen during travel, add storage only when needed, and distinguish handheld accessories from tabletop alternatives. A category appears as a recommendation where the available facts support the need but do not establish a particular third-party model as a winner.
Is the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 case worth buying?
It is the clearest match if you want Zelda-themed travel protection and the bundle’s case-and-screen-protector format. Its usefulness depends on current availability and whether its size and storage suit how you carry the console.
Nintendo announced the Zelda 40th Anniversary case bundle as an October 29, 2026 product. Its U.S. catalog listing showed sold out in information checked October 30, and Nintendo described limited, first-come-first-served sales at Nintendo New York. Those are time- and location-specific details, not a guarantee about stock on a later visit; check the Nintendo New York announcement and your regional retailer before making plans.
If the themed edition is unavailable or not a good fit, look for another case explicitly made for Switch 2. Check that it accommodates the entire console with Joy-Con 2 attached, protects the screen and sticks, and has enough room for the items you actually intend to carry. A case that includes a screen protector may make buying another protector unnecessary; check the bundle contents rather than assuming.

- Check the fit: the case must be for Switch 2, not just a similarly sized older console.
- Check what it carries: game cards, a charging cable, or a power bank may require more interior space.
- Check the trade-off: added storage space can increase bulk, and a separate grip may not fit inside.
Do not treat a case or protector as drop-proof. Nintendo’s case-and-protector instructions say the products cannot completely prevent scratches or other touch-screen damage. Avoid leaving the console switched on inside its case. The instructions also do not establish that every regional bundle has identical contents, so rely on the specific listing for the product you are buying.
Case-buying checklist
Before paying, confirm that the listing names Switch 2 rather than the original Switch, shows room for Joy-Con 2 attached, and states whether the protector is included. Decide whether you need a slim sleeve or a hard case with compartments. A larger compartment can hold game cards and a cable, but it also adds bulk. If you use a grip, measure the combined console-and-grip width and check the case’s interior dimensions; many otherwise suitable cases are shaped for the unmodified console.

Do not assume a case protects every accessory. A case may shield the screen and exterior while leaving the analog sticks under pressure, or it may have no room for a power bank. The safest approach is to match the case to the exact travel load you plan to carry rather than buying the largest option automatically.
Do you need microSD Express for Tears of the Kingdom?
You need microSD Express—not a standard microSD card—if you want to expand Switch 2 storage for games. You do not need to buy an expansion card just to play Zelda if the games fit in the usable space already available on the console.

Nintendo lists 256GB of built-in UFS storage, with some space reserved for system use. Its Switch 2 Edition store listings give Tears of the Kingdom a 20.1GB file size and Breath of the Wild a 24.1GB file size. These are the listed sizes for the Switch 2 Editions, not a promise about the total space you will have available after system use or other downloads.
Nintendo Support states that Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards for expanded game storage, and supports capacities up to 2TB. Nintendo lists a Samsung microSD Express Card – 256GB for Nintendo Switch 2. For any card, verify the microSD Express marking and buy from a seller you trust; the word “microSD” alone does not confirm Switch 2 game-storage compatibility. Nintendo also says a first-use system update via the internet is required for microSD Express.
An older ordinary microSD card has a limited captured-media use exception, but it is not the card to buy for installing Switch 2 games. Consult Nintendo’s microSD Express compatibility guidance before reusing a card or choosing a capacity.
How much card capacity makes sense?
Use your download habits rather than Zelda’s file size alone. The two listed Zelda Switch 2 Editions total 44.2GB before updates and other games, while system-reserved space reduces the amount available from the nominal 256GB internal figure. A 256GB Express card gives a substantial expansion for a moderate digital library; larger cards up to 2TB make more sense for frequent downloads. Compare price per usable capacity, the seller’s authenticity, and the required Express logo. Paying for a large card you will not fill is unnecessary, but buying an ordinary card because it is cheaper will not solve game-storage needs.
How should you choose a power bank for a long trip?
Look for explicit documentation that a USB-C power bank is suitable for Switch 2, then weigh its size, cable arrangement, and whether you can keep playing while charging. No specific power bank, wattage threshold, or extra Zelda playtime is established here, so do not treat a generic USB-C connection as a guarantee of a particular result.
Nintendo gives Switch 2 an approximate battery-life range of 2 to 6.5 hours and says battery life depends on the games played. That is a broad manufacturer estimate for the console, not a Zelda-specific benchmark; actual time varies with the game. Nintendo lists USB-C charging connectors on both the top and bottom of the console, which may affect how a cable sits while you hold it.

Before buying, check whether the bank’s product information specifically supports Switch 2 charging, whether its cable can reach without getting in the way of your hands, and whether its weight and dimensions make sense for your bag. If charging while playing matters, confirm that use case with the manufacturer or seller rather than assuming it from a charging-port description. Travel rules can also affect what battery banks you may carry, so check the relevant carrier requirements for your trip.
Nintendo says an original Switch AC adapter can charge a Switch 2 when connected directly, but that adapter does not enable Switch 2 TV mode. This is useful context about that Nintendo adapter; it does not establish charging performance for an unrelated third-party battery bank. See Nintendo’s technical specifications for the console’s published battery and charging information.

Power-bank packing tips
Keep the cable short enough that it does not loop across the screen or catch on a shoulder strap. A compact bank is easier to hold with the console, while a higher-capacity model may add noticeable weight to a travel case. If you will charge from a seat, bed, or airport outlet instead, the original adapter may be simpler than carrying a bank. Whatever you choose, test the cable position and charging behavior at home; do not wait until a long trip to discover that a connector is blocked by your grip or case.
Will an old Switch case or grip fit Switch 2?
Do not assume that it will. Switch 2 and the original Switch have different dimensions and controller attachment styles, so buy a case or grip explicitly designated for Switch 2 unless its maker confirms compatibility.
Nintendo lists Switch 2 at approximately 10.7 inches wide with Joy-Con 2 attached. A grip that appears close in size may still obstruct a shoulder button, cover a USB-C port, interfere with screen-protector clearance, or prevent the console from fitting in its case. Check the product’s stated model compatibility and, where available, its dimensions and port access before buying.
Original Switch Joy-Con can connect wirelessly to Switch 2, but they cannot attach to the console; an original Joy-Con grip does not accept Joy-Con 2. Likewise, an original Switch Pro Controller is a detached-controller option, not a way to hold the console with a controller attached. Nintendo’s cross-generation compatibility guidance explains the distinction.
No named third-party grip has verified fit or comfort here. If you are considering one, compare its exact Switch 2 designation, shoulder-button clearance, access to both USB-C ports, clearance around your screen protector, thickness, and whether it still fits in your chosen case. Those are checks to make before purchase, not evidence that a particular grip improves comfort.
Grip compatibility checklist
- Confirm the model name specifically says Switch 2 and Joy-Con 2.
- Look for unobstructed shoulder buttons, rails, speakers, and both USB-C ports.
- Check clearance for a glass or film protector, including its edges.
- Measure whether the grip can go into your travel case without forcing the zipper or pressing the sticks.
- Check return terms, since comfort and hand size cannot be inferred from a product photo.
An ergonomic grip is therefore a preference purchase, not a required Zelda accessory. It can change the shape and balance in your hands, but there is no verified model here to rank for comfort or durability.

Which Zelda extras are useful outside handheld play?
A Pro Controller is for playing with the console on a surface, not for handheld play with the Joy-Con 2 attached. A Zelda amiibo may interest players who already collect them, but neither accessory is required just to play the two Switch 2 Edition games.
Nintendo lists a Switch 2 Pro Controller – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition, as well as a controller-and-display-stand variant. Both fit a tabletop setup: the console rests on a surface while you use the separate controller. They do not replace an attached handheld grip.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The Switch 2 Editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom list amiibo support. That makes physical Zelda amiibo a possible extra for players interested in the feature, but it is not a reason to buy one without checking the amiibo’s specific compatibility and effect. Nintendo also offers ZELDA NOTES through the Nintendo Switch App for the Switch 2 Editions; it requires a compatible smart device and persistent internet, so it is a companion app feature rather than a console accessory.
These extras should come after the basics. If you mostly play in bed, on a train, or outdoors with Joy-Con 2 attached, a tabletop controller and display stand add little. If you alternate between handheld and a desk or television setup, the themed Pro Controller can be a separate convenience purchase, but it does not solve handheld fit or battery concerns.

What should you buy first—and what can you skip?
Start with the travel problem you actually have. A case is the broadest practical purchase if you carry the console; storage and power are conditional on your library and play habits; a grip is worth considering only after checking fit. Skip a tabletop controller if you only play with the console held, and do not buy an ordinary microSD card expecting to install Switch 2 games.
- Buy a Switch 2 case if the console travels with you. Choose the Zelda anniversary bundle if its styling matters and stock is available, or another explicitly Switch 2-sized option.
- Buy microSD Express if you need more room for downloaded games. Choose capacity based on your library and confirm the required card type.
- Consider a USB-C power bank for trips when access to an outlet is limited, but verify Switch 2 support and practical cable placement.
- Consider a grip only when the exact model is confirmed to fit Switch 2 and your other accessories.
- Choose a Pro Controller for tabletop play, not as a handheld attachment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an ordinary microSD card hold Switch 2 screenshots or videos?
Nintendo’s compatibility guidance provides a limited captured-media exception for ordinary microSD cards, even though they cannot expand game storage. Check Nintendo’s current guidance before moving or reusing captured files.
Does the Zelda 40th Anniversary case come with a game?
No game is included by implication: Nintendo’s New York announcement says, “Game sold separately.” Check the exact retailer listing for the contents of the case bundle.

Can I use my original Switch AC adapter to charge Switch 2?
Nintendo says an original Switch AC adapter can charge a directly connected Switch 2. It does not enable Switch 2 TV mode, so charging compatibility should not be confused with dock or display compatibility.
Do the Switch 2 Zelda Editions support amiibo?
Yes. Nintendo’s listings for the Switch 2 Editions of both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom specify amiibo support; check a particular amiibo’s details before buying it for a specific effect.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWill my original Switch carrying case fit Switch 2?
Do not count on it. Switch 2 is approximately 10.7 inches wide with Joy-Con 2 attached and uses a different controller attachment design. Choose a case explicitly labeled for Switch 2, or verify the maker’s dimensions and fit.
How much storage do the Switch 2 Zelda Editions use?
Nintendo’s store listings give Tears of the Kingdom 20.1GB and Breath of the Wild 24.1GB. Updates, system-reserved space, and other games require additional room.
Is a 2TB microSD Express card supported?
Nintendo Support says Switch 2 supports microSD Express capacities up to 2TB. The card must be microSD Express; an ordinary microSD card is not suitable for Switch 2 game installs.
Can I play Zelda while a power bank is charging Switch 2?
That depends on the specific bank, cable, and setup. Confirm that the product documentation supports Switch 2 charging during play; no particular bank or runtime has been established here.

No. Nintendo’s instructions say the case and protector cannot completely prevent scratches or other touch-screen damage. Treat the case as travel protection, not a guarantee against every drop.
Does ZELDA NOTES require another accessory?
ZELDA NOTES is provided through the Nintendo Switch App for the Switch 2 Editions. It requires a compatible smart device and persistent internet, so it is not a physical console accessory.
The Bottom Line
For handheld Zelda, buy a Switch 2-sized case and screen protection first. Add microSD Express for a growing digital library, consider a documented USB-C power bank for long trips, and treat grips as fit-dependent experiments. The anniversary case is the most direct themed choice, but stock is volatile and the game is sold separately.
