The October 27, 2026 The Sims 4 food overhaul is a quality-of-life and tuning update, not a standalone recipe drop. It retunes food and drink prices and calories across the base game and packs, makes hungry Sims more likely to eat leftovers, expands the Businesses & Hobbies Family Recipes pool to more than 375 existing dishes, adds a limited baking interaction for Get to Work owners, and delivers extensive restaurant and cross-pack fixes. The Sims Team’s current patch versions are PC 1.129.39.1030, Mac 1.129.39.1230, and console 2.40.
What changed in The Sims 4 food overhaul?
The update combines everyday cooking adjustments, recipe-system eligibility changes, and bug fixes for dining and food behavior. It does not introduce a single new recipe pack or replace the game’s cooking systems. The Sims Team described the update as part of a larger release with more than 150 bug fixes, including 25 or more fixes for Dine Out and 14 new crash and assert fixes.

Refrigerator access is quicker
The refrigerator’s Open interaction now appears at the front of its pie menu. This is a menu-order adjustment, not a new inventory system. It should make it quicker to reach stored food and ingredients without changing what the refrigerator can hold.
Hungry Sims are more likely to eat leftovers
When leftovers are stored in a refrigerator or sitting on a counter, hungry Sims are now more likely to eat them instead of autonomously preparing a new meal. The change addresses a familiar household nuisance: a Sim making another meal while prepared food is still available.

Food placement and storage behavior also received fixes
Several base-game corrections support dining and storage beyond the autonomy adjustment. Sims should be more likely to remain seated while eating, place dishes on dining tables or counters rather than inappropriate surfaces, and allow food cooked by another Sim to be dragged into the refrigerator.
These are behavior fixes, not new storage or serving features. They matter when meals are shared between Sims or when a household is trying to keep food for later instead of having it placed somewhere unsuitable.
Did EA change food prices and calories?
Yes. The Sims Team says it retuned pricing and calorie values for food and drink items across the base game and all packs. The stated aim is more consistent, sensible balancing; the official notes do not include the item-by-item before-and-after values needed to say exactly which meal became cheaper, more expensive, higher-calorie, or lower-calorie.

That means the scope is broad, but the individual results are not documented in the update notes. Players looking for a precise menu comparison should not treat any particular recipe’s price or calorie change as established by the published summary. No complete price table, calorie table, or comprehensive ingredient list is supplied.
The retuning applies to food and drinks, but the notes do not establish that every item changed by the same amount or in the same direction. “Across the base game and all packs” describes the coverage of the tuning pass, not a promise that every object received an identical adjustment.
How do Family Recipes work now?
The Businesses & Hobbies Family Recipes feature can now draw from a much larger pool: more than 375 pre-existing dishes from the base game and packs have been made eligible. This expands what the system can use; it does not mean the update created 375 new recipes.
Eligibility is the important change
Most of the added dishes already existed elsewhere in The Sims 4. The update makes them valid candidates for the Family Recipes system, which is distinct from simply adding dishes to ordinary cooking menus. Some dishes may now be used as family dishes through that feature even though they were not newly authored for this update.

A small number of items remain excluded because of technical reasons or because they do not fit the intended family-dish criteria. The Sims Team gives graham crackers as an example. Therefore, the “more than 375” figure refers to additions to the eligible pool, not every existing food item or an exhaustive list of all supported dishes.
Which pack is required?
Access to the Family Recipes feature requires Businesses & Hobbies. The broader update may still affect food behavior for players without that pack, but this particular Family Recipes expansion is tied to its system.

What does Quickly Decorate do in The Sims 4?
Quickly Decorate is a shorter-animation interaction for certain baked goods made with the Baking Skill. The Sims Team added it for cases where the baked item is not centered on a countertop, helping address route failures when a Sim cannot reach an item placed toward a counter’s back or edge.
This is a targeted solution to a placement and routing problem, not a general shortcut for every cooking interaction. The patch notes mark the feature as requiring Get to Work. It is separate from the base-game leftover preference and the Businesses & Hobbies Family Recipes eligibility expansion.
Did EA finally fix Dine Out?
The update improves restaurant reliability, but it should not be described as a complete rebuild or a guarantee that every restaurant issue is resolved. The Sims Team reports more than 25 Dine Out fixes within a patch containing more than 150 bug fixes, and says players should continue reporting problems.
The restaurant corrections address a range of points in a dining visit, from seating to service and checkout. The notes identify fixes involving:
- Customers leaving tables to perform unrelated actions, or socializing excessively before being seated.
- Waiter shifts failing to start and customers not interacting properly with restaurant employees.
- Incorrect cooking-skill progression on some Dine Out recipes.
- Sims eating while standing and waiters failing to clear dishes.
- Table-footprint problems and customers leaving before consuming their food or drinks.
Together, these fixes target interruptions and breakdowns across the restaurant experience. They support the conclusion that reliability has been improved, but the published notes do not promise that every possible restaurant bug has been eliminated.
Which other food and drink issues were fixed?
Several pack-specific corrections adjust what Sims cook, drink, or do while eating. These are narrower than the broad food-price tuning and are relevant only when the affected pack or activity is in play.

- For Rent: Pressure-cooker overuse was reduced.
- Outdoor Retreat: Sims should no longer abandon eating to play horseshoes.
- Tartosa food stall: The Chinese-inspired stall now sells food rather than produce.
The notes describe corrections and autonomy adjustments, not a new set of recipes or a general change to all activities in these packs.
Which packs do I need for the cooking changes?
Not every change requires an expansion. Broad tuning and several base-game behaviors are described as applying across the game, while Family Recipes and Quickly Decorate have explicit pack requirements. Other fixes are tied to the packs named in their descriptions.

Expect smoother food routines and a broader Family Recipes pool, rather than a wholesale replacement of cooking. The clearest player-facing results are better access to refrigerator contents, a stronger preference for leftovers, a targeted baking route workaround, and a substantial set of restaurant and cross-pack fixes.

Do not infer an exact price or calorie change for a named dish from the general tuning announcement. The official notes do not provide the complete item-level tables, a full list of eligible Family Recipes, or a claim that every restaurant issue is permanently fixed. They also do not say all added Family Recipes are new dishes; most are existing foods newly eligible for that feature.
Players using mods should also consider compatibility when investigating crashes or unexpected behavior after updating. EA says some crash reports remain linked to outdated or conflicting mod files and directs mod users to its Mods & Game Updates Guide. A post-update problem is not automatically caused by the food changes.

How can I tell which patch version I have?
The Sims Team lists the October 27, 2026 update as PC 1.129.39.1030, Mac 1.129.39.1230, and console 2.40. These platform-specific numbers are useful for identifying the release; PC and Mac have distinct version strings, while the console listing uses a different numbering format.
