If The Sims 4 keeps crashing on PS4, there is no single confirmed cause or guaranteed game-specific fix. Work through the checks below from least disruptive to most involved; the right step may depend on whether the crash happens at launch, while loading a save, or during play. These are general troubleshooting suggestions from EA and PlayStation, not a confirmed fix for a specific Sims 4 defect.
Before troubleshooting, record what happens
Note whether the game closes at launch, while a save is loading, or after you have started playing. Write down the exact error code or message, if one appears. If possible, capture a screenshot or short video and note the steps that lead to the crash. PlayStation asks for these details when a game-launch problem remains unresolved (PlayStation game-launch troubleshooting).
Try the low-impact console checks first
- Restart the PS4. Close the game if it is still responsive, then restart the console and try again.
- Disconnect unnecessary USB devices. Leave connected only devices needed to play. EA includes unplugging USB devices among its PlayStation crash and freeze troubleshooting steps (EA crash and freeze troubleshooting).
- Check for PS4 system software updates. Use the console’s system software update option and install an available update before testing the game again. PlayStation and EA both list updating the console as a troubleshooting step (PlayStation; EA).
Restore the game license, then reinstall if needed
PlayStation and EA include restoring the game license in their recommended console troubleshooting. On PS4, open Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses, select Restore, and then try The Sims 4 again. Menu wording can vary with system software.
If the crash continues, delete The Sims 4 and download it again from your library. PlayStation recommends using a wired internet connection for the redownload when possible. Reinstalling is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed cure (PlayStation; EA).

Check storage or disc only if it applies to your copy
If the game is installed on USB extended storage
Confirm that the external drive is connected properly. If the crash persists, try installing The Sims 4 on the PS4’s internal storage instead. EA suggests this as a diagnostic step when a game is running from external storage; it does not establish that the drive caused the crash or mean you need to buy a different one (EA; PlayStation).
If you play from a disc
Check that the disc is seated correctly and inspect its surface for dirt or fingerprints. If needed, wipe it with a soft, clean cloth. PlayStation also suggests testing another disc when diagnosing disc-reading problems (PlayStation; PlayStation disc troubleshooting). These checks help identify a possible reading issue; they do not make buying a replacement copy a general solution to game crashes.

Use Safe Mode’s Rebuild Database if the basic steps fail
PlayStation lists Rebuild Database in Safe Mode among its troubleshooting steps for game-launch and game/app update problems. Treat it as a general PS4 troubleshooting option, not a Sims 4-specific cure. Follow PlayStation’s current Safe Mode instructions and choose Rebuild Database rather than an initialization option (PlayStation; PlayStation Safe Mode).
Do not casually initialize the console or reinstall system software as an early fix. PlayStation warns that initialization erases console data and recommends backing up data before reinstalling system software (PlayStation; PlayStation). If support recommends either action, back up important data first and follow the official instructions.

Know what Sims-specific fixes do—and do not—address
EA documents a way to reset a stuck or unresponsive Sim using the PlayStation controller shortcut L1, L2, R1, and R2 together, or the resetSim cheat. That addresses an individual Sim that is stuck inside a running game; it does not repair a PS4 application crash (EA: reset stuck Sims).
EA also notes that script mods can cause certain listed error codes, but that guidance does not establish that mods are available on PS4 or that a mod caused a console crash. Do not apply PC mod troubleshooting to a PS4 crash without evidence that it is relevant (EA: mods, updates, and error codes).

Contact support if the crash continues
If The Sims 4 still crashes after the relevant checks, contact PlayStation Support for persistent launch or console issues. Provide the error code or message, when the crash occurs, the steps that reproduce it, and a screenshot or video if available. The official guidance cited here does not identify a specific ongoing Sims 4 PS4 incident or a universal cause.
