Tim LeTourneau, a longtime game producer and executive associated with The Sims and other Maxis games, died over the weekend before June 2, 2025, according to a report that relayed an announcement by his wife, Donna. The report did not specify the date or cause of death.
Who was Tim LeTourneau?
LeTourneau was a game producer and executive whose career included work at Maxis and several other game companies. PCGamesInsider reported that he joined Maxis in 1998 and worked there as a senior producer for eight years. The same report says he later served as an executive producer at Electronic Arts, became vice president and general manager of The Sims Studio in 2008, and went on to senior roles at Zynga, Storm8, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and Fortis Games. These career details come from the outlet’s account.
What games did he work on?
A former Maxis colleague credited LeTourneau with contributions to The Sims, The Sims 2, MySims, and other Maxis games, including work in design as well as production. The colleague described his role as helping bring a game together, treating people fairly, and working toward the best game the team could deliver. Those are a colleague’s recollections, not a complete or independently verified allocation of individual credits.
When did Tim LeTourneau die?
PCGamesInsider reported on June 2, 2025, that LeTourneau had died “this weekend,” attributing the announcement to a social media post by his wife, Donna. That wording places his death over the weekend immediately preceding the report, but does not establish a specific calendar date. The available report also did not state a cause of death.

The Sims’ wider legacy
Electronic Arts said in its February 4, 2025, 25th-anniversary announcement that The Sims had more than 500 million lifetime players. That is EA’s cumulative figure for the franchise, not a count of current active players or a measure of LeTourneau’s individual contribution.
In a January 9, 2026 update, EA said it would continue developing The Sims 4 and Sims experiences across PC, console, and mobile. EA described Project Rene as a separate, social, collaborative, mobile-first experience—not as the successor to The Sims 4. The franchise’s continued development provides context for the series LeTourneau helped shape, but does not change what is known about his personal credits.
