Games are ready to play from the computer’s menu, so the built-in library offers the simplest way to get started. The manufacturer also specifies four save slots per game and rewind of up to 40 seconds. These are product specifications, not independently measured performance results.
Can you load your own ZX Spectrum games?
Yes. The Spectrum can load programs you already own from USB storage. PLAION lists support for TAP, TZX, PZX, SZX, Z80 and SNA files. Loading your own software is distinct from the built-in library: the computer does not make arbitrary downloads part of the package or grant rights to use files you do not own.
Classic Mode and BASIC
Classic Mode provides BASIC programming and virtual cassettes, evoking how users interacted with the original computer. Retro Games Ltd also offers optional cassette loading effects. The mode is useful for exploring or writing BASIC programs as well as playing software; USB storage is needed for the listed file-loading formats.
How does it connect to a modern TV?
The computer outputs video over HDMI at a manufacturer-specified 720p. PLAION lists support for PAL 50 Hz and NTSC 60 Hz, along with 4:3 and pixel-perfect aspect ratios, CRT filters and adjustable borders. Retro Games Ltd also lists 12 frame choices. These are vendor specifications; the sources do not establish independent image-quality measurements.

Four USB ports accommodate controllers and USB storage. The product page says it works with “many USB game controllers,” which is not a guarantee for every model. THEGAMEPAD is marketed as a companion, but check compatibility for a particular controller before relying on it. Keyboard play remains an option if you prefer the original computer’s input style.
What is included, and what do you need to set it up?
The standard box contains The Spectrum computer, an HDMI cable, a USB power lead and an introduction manual. The AC adapter is not included. Consult the current regional listing and manual for an appropriate adapter rather than assuming any USB power supply will work.
- Connect the included HDMI cable between The Spectrum and a display with an HDMI input.
- Connect the USB power lead and use a suitable AC adapter, selected according to the manual for your region.
- For USB loading, connect a flash drive containing a supported file format. For controller play, connect a compatible USB game controller.
A USB flash drive is optional for the built-in games, but relevant if you plan to load your own supported programs. Controller compatibility is model-specific, so confirm a controller before purchase if it is central to your setup.

Retro Games Ltd has also described white special-edition bundles. Their accessory contents differ from the standard product and from one another; the manufacturer says specifications may change and characterizes the edition as limited. Availability and exact contents can vary, so check the current regional product page before buying.

The bundles are described on Retro Games Ltd’s special-edition page. It does not establish current availability in every territory, so the bundle descriptions should not be treated as a guarantee of stock.
Who is The Spectrum for?
- ZX Spectrum fans: It pairs a working keyboard and Classic Mode with a convenient HDMI connection.
- Players seeking a plug-and-play retro library: The 48 built-in games can be played without first preparing USB files.
- Owners of ZX Spectrum software: USB loading supports the formats listed by PLAION, provided you have the files and the rights to use them.
- Collectors: White special-edition bundles add accessories, though contents and availability need to be checked for the specific listing.
The available product information does not establish street prices, inventory by region, long-term reliability, independent emulation performance or compatibility with every USB controller. Treat the listed features as manufacturer and distributor specifications rather than independent test findings. PLAION’s product information is available in its press kit and on the PLAION REPLAI product page.
