The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe keeps the original game’s office-bound premise and narrator-led experimentation, then expands it with new choices, secrets, and a substantial amount of story. It is best approached as a first-person adventure about exploring branches and seeing how a game responds to you—not as a conventional challenge with a score or a single winning route. GameSpot’s review lists an 8/10, but that is one publication’s score, not an aggregate verdict.

What is The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe?

In this first-person adventure, Stanley discovers that everyone who worked alongside him in an office has vanished. From there, the game builds around the tension between the player’s choices and a narrator who describes—or attempts to direct—what happens next. Its interest lies in branching routes, endings, and the way those conventions can be questioned, rather than in accumulating points or mastering a combat system.

The official website calls it “a game that plays you.” That description captures the central relationship: the narrator addresses the events and the player’s decisions, while the game repeatedly invites you to test what happens when you follow instructions or deviate from them. The official game overview credits Davey Wreden and William Pugh as writers and designers, Crows Crows Crows as developer and publisher, and Kevan Brighting as narrator.

What does Ultra Deluxe add to the original?

Ultra Deluxe is not simply a visual remaster, nor does the developer describe it as only a sequel. Crows Crows Crows calls it an expanded re-imagining and continuation: it retains the original game’s content and adds new choices, secrets, and a substantial body of narrative. The official site says the script for the new content is longer than the original game’s script. PlayStation’s listing also notes visual upgrades and accessibility features.

#1 Best Overall
iam8bit The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe - PS5
  • The physical package* includes four art cards, featuring perfectly mundane imagery from your favourite Stanley Parable locations
  • 20% of net proceeds will be donated to the non-profit charity 350.org to fight climate change.
  • Everything that was in the original Stanley Parable is here, preserved just like it was back in 2013. But The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe also dramatically expands the world of the original game with new content, new choices, and new secrets to uncover. The labyrinth has just gotten bigger.
  • In addition, the game has been visually upgraded to reflect modern technology while faithfully preserving the tone of the original game. Accessibility features have also been added to the game, including localization of in-world text, colorblind options, and content warnings
  • And just as before, the impeccable voicework of Kevan Brighting will accompany you every step of the way.

That combination makes the edition a way to revisit the original as well as encounter additional material. GameSpot’s review title calls it “A Sequel In All But Name,” a useful critical characterization, but the developer’s own framing is broader. New content is presented in ways designed to surprise, so going in without route-by-route spoilers is a sensible choice.

What did critics say?

GameSpot’s review index lists Jordan Ramée’s Ultra Deluxe review at 8/10 (“Great”), under the title “The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe Review – A Sequel In All But Name.” This is a specific review score; it should not be read as a cross-publication consensus or confused with the separate 9/10 GameSpot score listed there for the original game, reviewed by Carolyn Petit.

The added material also engages with the culture around remakes, remasters, and reviews. In a 2025 GamesRadar+ interview, director William Pugh said those subjects informed some added plotlines, while describing the creative impulse as emotional rather than beginning with a predetermined critique. That context helps explain why the new content is not merely a checklist of references to the original.

Is it a good fit for you?

The game is a natural fit if you enjoy narrative experiments, exploration, and stories that respond to choices in unexpected ways. It is less suited to someone looking primarily for combat, conventional progression, or a clearly defined objective to complete once and move on from. Since routes and surprises are part of its appeal, a spoiler-free first play is preferable if discovery matters to you.

What accessibility and content information is listed?

PlayStation, Nintendo, and Steam listings disclose features that include localization of in-world text, colorblind options, and content warnings. These are useful details, but the listings do not amount to a complete audit of every access need. Check the specific store page and edition if you rely on a particular feature.

The PlayStation US listing gives mild content descriptors for drug references, blood, language, suggestive themes, and violence. Those descriptors are specific to that listing and should not be generalized into a rating for every region or storefront.

Are physical editions or collectibles available?

The official site documents a physical-edition partnership between Crows Crows Crows and iam8bit. Its Retail Edition includes four art cards. The Collector’s Edition is described as including a Reassurance Bucket creation manual, sticker set, 5-inch Stanley figurine, exclusive cover art, and a soundtrack download code. The site also lists a two-disc 12-inch vinyl soundtrack, an instructional audio tape, and a novelty button.

The official page says 20% of net profits from the physical-edition offer will be donated to 350.org. That figure is the site’s stated donation commitment; it does not establish current stock at any particular retailer. Check current retailer listings before treating an edition or collectible as available.

Where can you buy it?

The official platforms page links the available digital platforms, and Steam lists the game for PC, Mac, and Linux. Steam also lists The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe – The Complete Soundtrack as a separate purchase. Its price varies by region and can change, so check the current store listing for your location. For physical editions, the official site identifies iam8bit as the partner, but the existence of an edition does not confirm present-day inventory.
