Preserve detail in shadows and bright clouds, and avoid pushing skin, foliage, or fire into unnaturally vivid colors. There is no verified universal slider preset: the right result depends on platform, game build, display, tone mapping, and room lighting.
First check which version and platform you are using
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launched on September 29, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. CD PROJEKT RED says the game’s tone mapping and HDR calibration panel options changed, so settings written for the 2022 next-gen version may not apply. The publisher’s announcement describes the update as “Updated tone mapping for improved colors, lighting, contrast and detail.” CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered announcement also says eligible owners of previous physical or digital versions can receive a free upgrade within the same platform ecosystem.
Build matters, too. On October 1, 2026, Patch 5.00b adjusted lighting and fixed interiors that appeared too dark on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Play Anywhere PC. PC Hotfix 5.00c adjusted Velen visuals, including bloom, vegetation lighting, saturation, and Path Tracing lighting. Check the installed update for your platform before tuning; these are early post-launch changes, and the information here reflects the state through October 4, 2026.
- Remastered on PC: PC slider observations are available, but they are not official recommendations.
- Remastered on PS5: use Sony’s system HDR adjustment before changing in-game settings.
- Remastered on Xbox: the official patch notes establish lighting changes, but the sources here do not verify an Xbox system-calibration path.
- Earlier version: do not transfer Remastered slider values to the older build, or vice versa.
Calibrate HDR before changing the game
HDR output depends on the whole display chain, not only the game’s sliders. Sony describes HDR as a wider range of contrast, color, and brightness than SDR, and notes that image quality depends on the connected entertainment setup. On PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > HDR to enable HDR, then choose Video Output > Adjust HDR to run the console’s calibration. Follow the on-screen instructions for the display you actually use. Sony’s PS5 HDR instructions document this workflow.
#1 Best Overall
- Quality Visuals: The VG270K 27" IPS monitor with 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
- Quick Refresh Rate: Different content has different refresh rate and resolution requirements. If you are playing an FPS or racing game, you will need a monitor with a high refresh rate. However, if you are doing office work or streaming videos, a higher resolution will be more beneficial. With DFR technology, users can choose a higher resolution, or a higher refresh rate based on what is suitable for them.
- Responsive: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter if the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting.
- ZeroFrame Design: With a Nitro VG270K monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.
On other platforms, use the HDR calibration controls available in the operating system or console and display setup rather than assuming the PS5 menu path applies. Once system output is set, open the game’s display or video settings and look for its HDR calibration controls. CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered notes say the panel was updated and that settings sometimes failed to appear on consoles. If the controls are missing, check that the game is patched before treating their absence as normal.
Adjust for a natural image, not a magic number
Choose a repeatable scene with both shadow detail and bright areas—such as a view containing dark foliage, a face, and bright sky—and make one small adjustment at a time. Keep the scene and room lighting consistent while comparing changes. Aim for readable detail in dark areas without lifting blacks into gray, and preserve texture in clouds and light sources rather than letting them become featureless white. Skin, foliage, and fire should look plausible rather than unnaturally vivid.

- Start with the display’s HDR calibration. Do not try to repair a system-level mismatch by immediately pushing the game’s brightness controls.
- Set the game’s peak-brightness control, if present. Match it to what your display can deliver in HDR rather than assuming the default suits every screen.
- Set paper white for comfortable scene brightness. If the overall image looks washed out or too bright, try reducing paper white slightly and compare. This is a troubleshooting approach, not a tested numeric prescription.
- Adjust saturation conservatively. Reduce it if skin, greenery, or fire looks exaggerated; stop before colors become dull or lifeless.
- Recheck both ends of the image. Confirm that shadows retain detail and highlights still show texture, then revisit the scene after any system, game, or display changes.
Room lighting is part of the comparison: a setting that feels comfortable in a bright room may look too intense in a dark one. Display capability, tone mapping, and platform also affect the result, so a number copied from another setup cannot guarantee natural color on yours.
What the available Remastered PC slider values mean
A PC analysis posted September 30, 2026, by KoKlusz in the HDR-Gaming-Database lists these controls for its specific Remastered build. The figures describe what that analysis observed, not official recommended settings, and do not establish console behavior.

| Control | Observed PC range | Observed default | How to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Max Monitor Brightness | 300–4000 nits | 500 nits | Use as a display-related peak brightness control; the analysis says this PC build ignores EDID and OS-calibrated peak brightness. |
| Paper White | 100–500 nits | 300 nits | Adjust scene brightness cautiously if the picture appears washed out or over-bright. |
| Saturation | 0–1 | 0.20 | Lower it if colors look excessive; judge against believable skin, foliage, and fire. |
These values are observations from one independent PC analysis, not universal targets or publisher guidance. The analysis does not provide a controlled cross-platform comparison. Its figures should not be applied to PS5, Xbox, or the earlier game version as if they were verified there. The discussion’s separate comment claiming that Paper White’s actual luminance is 1.5 times its displayed value is unverified and should not be treated as an established conversion.

The December 2022 next-gen update documented platform and PC implementation differences, and a December 2025 independent PC analysis describes that earlier implementation’s Gamma, Max Monitor Brightness, and Paper White controls. Those are historical details, not Remastered defaults. Compare the controls and behavior in your installed build rather than copying a preset from an older guide. CD PROJEKT RED’s 2022 next-gen change list and the 2025 PC HDR analysis refer to earlier versions.
