Does The Witcher 3 PS5 upgrade cost anything?
If you already own a qualifying copy, the publisher’s August 25, 2026 announcement describes The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered as a free upgrade for owners on listed platforms, including PlayStation 5. It became available on September 29, 2026. Check the listing associated with your PlayStation account and copy rather than assuming that every edition, region, or storefront is automatically entitled. The publisher says current owners of the base game also receive Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine at no extra cost. Its current FAQ instructs owners to update the game to the latest version. See the current game page and FAQ for its platform and edition information.
Buying the game for the first time
The publisher’s FAQ says the Base Game is replaced on storefronts by the Complete Edition, which includes both expansions. It does not state a universal PS5 price. Check your regional PlayStation Store for the current price and listing before buying.

What does Remastered include?
CD PROJEKT RED describes visual and gameplay changes including improved environment, NPC, and monster textures; foliage improvements; reworked lighting, rendering, and ray tracing; revised combat animations and finishers; and an overhauled skill system. The current page also lists cross-platform mod support, transmogrification, meditation, and expanded Photo Mode. The Complete Edition combines the two expansions with the base game, while the FAQ says either expansion can still be started separately from the main menu. The publisher’s current page provides the feature and edition details.
How the 2026 release differs from the 2022 next-gen update
Remastered is the publisher’s current release name and was made available in 2026. Some features often associated with the PS5 version were already part of the 2022 next-gen update, so they should not be described as newly added in 2026. The 2022 announcement listed ray tracing, improved Screen Space Reflections, foliage and texture improvements, an alternative closer camera, Quick Sign Casting, map filtering, dynamic minimap hiding, Photo Mode, integrated community mods, quest fixes, Netflix-inspired cosmetics and a quest, and cross-progression. CD PROJEKT RED’s November 2022 summary dates that list.

In its December 2022 platform-specific change list, CD PROJEKT RED said PS5 Ray Tracing Mode targeted 30 FPS and Performance Mode targeted 60 FPS, both with dynamic resolution scaling. The same list named DualSense adaptive triggers and haptics and PS5 Activity Cards. These are publisher-stated mode targets and features from 2022, not independent measurements or a promise of a locked frame rate in every scene. The notes also cautioned that patch scope could vary by platform. Read the December 2022 change list.
Can I upgrade my PS4 disc to PS5?
For the documented PS4-disc next-gen upgrade route, insert the PS4 disc into a PS5 to install and play. The disc must remain available to verify the disc-based entitlement. CD PROJEKT RED’s support answer is specifically about the next-gen update route, so it should not be taken as a ruling on every possible 2026 Remastered SKU or future storefront policy. Can I use my PS4 disc on PS5 Digital Edition?
No for that disc-based route: PS5 Digital Edition has no disc drive, so it cannot use the PS4 disc to install and play the cited next-gen upgrade. If you have a digital entitlement instead, check the current PlayStation Store listing for your account; the disc support answer does not establish eligibility for other editions.

The Remastered support FAQ says existing Witcher 3 saves are compatible and achievements previously earned from the base game and both expansions carry over. It also says skills reset because the skill system was overhauled. Expect to revisit your build after updating. Read the Remastered FAQ.

How does cross-progression work?
CD PROJEKT RED says cross-progression remains functional. Its documented process uses the same CD PROJEKT RED account on both platforms:
- Update the game, then open Load Game and choose Cross Progression.
- Sign in to your CD PROJEKT RED account and create a save.
- On the second platform, sign in to that same account and load the save from Load Game.
The support instructions explain the flow; they do not promise support for every platform pairing or save condition. See the cross-progression instructions.
