R.E.P.O. is a co-op horror game about finding valuable objects, carrying them through dangerous spaces and extracting enough value to meet the Creator’s goals. Before your first serious run, learn the handling in the built-in tutorial, agree on a simple team plan, and treat controls and monster tactics as update-sensitive.

What are you trying to do in R.E.P.O.?

Your job is to locate valuables, transport them and extract them. The objects use physics, so cargo can be awkward as well as valuable: the official Steam description contrasts heavy pianos with fragile ceramics. A careless carry can put the haul at risk, and the game frames teamwork as a way to get objects back safely.

Steam describes R.E.P.O. as an online co-op horror game for up to six players total—the host and as many as five friends—and also lists single-player. It combines hauling with monsters and proximity voice chat, so deciding when to talk and when to stay quiet is part of the atmosphere. The exact sound triggers and enemy reactions can change; don’t assume one monster rule applies forever.

Start with the built-in tutorial

Use the in-game tutorial before committing to a run. It introduces the grab beam, rotating objects and extraction—the basic actions you need to handle valuables. Then check the current settings to confirm your bindings. Controls can be changed, and an online list of keys may be out of date after an update.

Get comfortable lifting, orienting and moving an object before you try to rush it back. Learning how an item responds to the physics is more useful at first than memorizing a detailed strategy for a particular enemy or level.

Make a simple plan with your team

Co-op helps with bulky or fragile cargo, but coordination matters more than having everyone improvise at once. Before splitting up, choose who will scout, who will haul, where the group should regroup and when to leave the extraction area. Treat these as practical team habits, not fixed game rules.

Expect danger, and be deliberate about voice chat

R.E.P.O. pairs object recovery with scary monsters and proximity voice chat. Keep conversation useful when danger feels close, and pay attention to the game’s own cues. The official store description advises players to know when to stay quiet, but it does not establish a universal list of sounds that attract each enemy. Specific counters and sound rules are version-sensitive, so learn them from current in-game experience rather than treating old advice as guaranteed.

Spend SURPLUS with the run in mind

The game uses SURPLUS for upgrades and weapons. Think about what your group needs before spending it: an upgrade that suits one run or play style may not be the best choice for another. The official description establishes the available uses, not a universally best purchase.

Remember that R.E.P.O. is still in Early Access

Steam labels R.E.P.O. Early Access and says the game may change as development continues. Semiwork’s official Steam announcement dated 5 June 2026 said, “The main focus of the next update will be a brand new level,” and that the team was getting closer to the 1.0 full release. Those are development updates, not a dated release promise. Recheck the current tutorial, settings and official update notes when returning after a patch.

Is there a physical copy or official merchandise?

The sources here identify the game as a digital Steam product; they do not establish a boxed edition or a current Amazon listing. Semiwork’s official Steam Q&A names a vinyl figure and pin set sold through Youtooz. Merchandise is optional and separate from learning the game.
