The safest fix is to identify the application that shows the error, then repair or reinstall that application using its original installer or official launcher. The program normally keeps tkg2d.dll beside its executable or inside its private OCCT runtime folder.

What is tkg2d.dll?
tkg2d.dll is the Windows binary for OCCT’s TKG2d toolkit. It belongs to the ModelingData module and provides 2D geometry functionality, including packages associated with Geom2d and geometry adaptation.
It does not ship with Windows. There is no universal application associated with the filename alone. The error dialog, shortcut, executable path, and folder containing the file are needed to identify which OCCT-based program owns it.
The file should usually be located in one of these places:
- Beside the application’s main
.exefile - In the application’s private OCCT binary folder
- In a runtime folder configured by the application’s launcher
Windows searches the application directory early in the DLL loading process. Moving the file into a shared Windows folder can create version conflicts and may cause another application to load the wrong OCCT build.
Why the error happens
The most common causes are:
| Cause | What usually fixes it |
|---|---|
| The application file was deleted or quarantined | Repair or reinstall the application |
| An update left mixed OCCT DLL versions | Reinstall the complete application runtime |
| The application folder was moved | Restore the original location or reinstall |
| The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit runtime is present | Install the architecture required by the application |
A dependency of tkg2d.dll is missing |
Reinstall the complete application and prerequisites |
| Multiple OCCT versions conflict through PATH | Remove incorrect PATH entries and restore the vendor layout |
| The DLL is damaged | Reinstall the owning application |
| Windows components are damaged | Run DISM and SFC after application repair |
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that tkg2d.dll itself is missing. Windows may be unable to load a dependency required by that DLL.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the application
This is the most likely solution.
If the application appears in Installed apps
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the CAD, geometry, conversion, engineering, or other application that fails.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair and wait for it to finish.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If there is no Repair option, select Uninstall, restart the computer, and install the program again from its official installer.
If the program has its own launcher
Open the application’s launcher and look for options named:

- Verify files
- Check installation
- Scan and repair
- Reinstall runtime
- Update
Run the verification or repair process, then launch the program from its normal shortcut. Do not copy a replacement tkg2d.dll into the program folder unless the application’s own installer places it there.
Check the result
The repair worked if the application starts without the missing-file message. If the error changes to “entry point not found,” the installation may contain mixed OCCT versions. Uninstall the application, restart Windows, and perform a clean installation rather than replacing only one DLL.
Fix 2: Check the application path and recent changes
Think about what changed immediately before the error appeared:
- An application update
- A partial uninstall
- Antivirus quarantine
- Disk cleanup
- Moving the program to another drive
- Changing the PATH environment variable
- Installing a second OCCT version
- Restoring files from another computer
To inspect the shortcut:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Review the Target field.
- Select Open File Location.
- Confirm that the application’s executable and its runtime folders still exist.
If the application folder was moved, return it to its original location or reinstall it. A launcher may depend on the original folder structure or environment configuration.
Do not add a random folder containing tkg2d.dll to PATH. Multiple OCCT installations can cause the wrong runtime to load.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can quarantine a genuine application file after a detection, or malware may have damaged the installation.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the affected application or
tkg2d.dll. - Review the detection details before taking action.
- If the file was quarantined and the application came from a trusted official installer, use the security product’s restore option only after verifying the detection.
- Reinstall the application if you are uncertain about the file’s origin.
Do not disable antivirus protection to install an unknown DLL. A clean copy from the application vendor is safer than restoring an unverified file.
Fix 4: Match the application’s architecture
A 32-bit application requires 32-bit OCCT binaries. A 64-bit application requires 64-bit OCCT binaries. A 64-bit Windows installation does not make a 32-bit application compatible with 64-bit OCCT files.
To check the application architecture, consult its documentation or installer. You can also inspect the application’s installation folders and release information, but the application vendor’s package is the authoritative source.
For an OCCT development installation:
- Identify whether your program is built for 32-bit or 64-bit Windows.
- Identify the compiler and build configuration used by the program.
- Install or build the corresponding OCCT configuration.
- Keep all OCCT DLLs from the same compatible release.
- Place the runtime files according to the application’s deployment layout.
Do not copy a tkg2d.dll from another computer. It may have the wrong architecture, OCCT release, build mode, compiler runtime, or dependent libraries.
Fix 5: Reinstall the application prerequisites
Some OCCT-based programs require Microsoft Visual C++ runtime components. These redistributables do not contain tkg2d.dll, but the application may need the specific runtime documented by its developer.
Check the application’s official support or installation instructions and install the required Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package from Microsoft. If the program provides its own prerequisite installer, use that package instead of guessing.

A missing tkg2d.dll is normally an application deployment problem, not a Device Manager problem. Driver updates are relevant when the program also crashes during 3D display, reports graphics initialization failures, or behaves incorrectly across several engineering applications.
To check manually:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For specialized hardware, also check categories such as System devices, Monitors, or the device vendor’s official support page. Avoid replacing drivers merely because tkg2d.dll is missing.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through hardware models and driver versions; its free scan identifies outdated drivers, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the OCCT-based application remains the definitive fix for this DLL.

DISM and System File Checker repair Windows components and protected Windows files. They do not normally recreate an application-owned OCCT DLL, so use them later in the process, especially if other Windows features are also failing.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
If SFC reports repaired files, test the program again. If it reports that it could not repair some files, repeat the process after restarting and review the result, but do not expect it to restore tkg2d.dll.
Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process of checking for broader Windows problems easier: its free scan shows what it identifies, while repair is performed by the full version. It is optional, and repeated SFC/DISM runs will not replace the owning application’s OCCT runtime.
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
Do not run:
regsvr32 tkg2d.dll
regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, typically COM components. tkg2d.dll is an OCCT geometry runtime library, not a normal self-registering Windows component.
The command will not restore a missing file, repair its dependencies, or correct a 32-bit/64-bit mismatch. It may instead produce an entry-point or module error.
Do not copy the file into System32 or SysWOW64
System32 and SysWOW64 are not general-purpose repositories for application DLLs. Placing an OCCT DLL there can:
- Make another program load the wrong version
- Hide the real missing dependency
- Create architecture conflicts
- Leave the application with a mismatched set of companion libraries
- Make future repairs and uninstallations less reliable
Use the application’s installer and its expected private runtime directory.
What to do if the error persists
Collect these details before contacting the application vendor:
Recommended Free Tools
- The complete error text
- The application name and exact executable
- The application’s installation folder
- Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit
- The full path where
tkg2d.dllis expected - What changed immediately before the failure
- Any antivirus quarantine or protection-history event
- Whether reinstalling produced a different error
If the program crashes inside TKG2d.dll after it starts, that is a different problem from a missing-file error. It may involve application code, invalid geometry, or an OCCT compatibility issue and should be reported to the application vendor with the crash details.
FAQ
Is tkg2d.dll a Windows file?
No. It is an OCCT application runtime DLL and is normally installed with an OCCT-based program.
Which program installed tkg2d.dll?
The filename alone cannot identify one universal end-user program. The error dialog, application shortcut, and file path are needed to find the owner.
Can I download `tkg2d.dll separately?
That is unsafe and often ineffective. A standalone file can have the wrong version, architecture, compiler runtime, or dependent libraries. Repair the complete application instead.
Does tkg2d.dll belong in System32?
Normally no. Keep it in the application’s installation directory or the OCCT binary directory specified by the application.
Why does Windows say a module is missing when the file exists?
A dependency of tkg2d.dll may be missing, or the DLL may have the wrong architecture or an incompatible OCCT version.
Should I enable a Windows Feature?
Usually not. Windows Features do not provide the OCCT TKG2d runtime. Enable or repair a feature only when the application’s own documentation specifically requires it.
What is the safest source for a replacement?
Use the affected application’s official installer or launcher. Developers should use the official OCCT distribution and match the application’s architecture, compiler, configuration, and runtime version.
