Toastie: grilled cheese game works on iPhone models that can run iOS 18.0 or later and iPads that can run iPadOS 18.0 or later. You do not need an iPhone Duo: supported iPhones and iPads play the game using an on-screen toaster lid. The Duo adds the fold-to-close mechanic, while iPad and Duo also get a roomier layout. This guide is about the $2.99 game by Tomasz Szykulski, App Store ID 6813841355—not the unrelated Toastie health tracker.
What devices can run Toastie?
The published requirement is iOS 18.0 or later for iPhone and iPadOS 18.0 or later for iPad. The US App Store product page lists iPhone and iPad, and describes the game as designed for iPad. That software requirement—not whether a phone folds—is the practical compatibility test.

Does Toastie work on a regular iPhone?
Yes. Any iPhone that can run iOS 18.0 or later meets the app’s stated OS requirement; iPhone Duo is not necessary. On a regular iPhone, you close and open the virtual toaster lid with an on-screen interaction rather than physically folding the phone.

That difference changes the tactile gimmick, not whether the game is playable. Toastie is a real-time cooking game: you butter bread, drag cheese and other fillings into place, beat a 15-second build timer, then close the toaster and check the sandwich before it burns. Its scoring considers the recipe, plating, toasting, and preparation time. The foldable version makes the lid feel like part of the device; a conventional iPhone still has the game controls.
Do I need iPhone Duo to play Toastie?
No. The Duo is the showcase device for Toastie’s fold-to-toast interaction, not a purchase requirement. The developer’s App Store response says the game was optimized for Duo from day one but also plays on other iPhones and iPads.

On Duo, fold the phone shut to close the toaster and open it to inspect the sandwich. On other supported devices, close the lid on screen. The game’s 1.1 update notes describe Duo and iPad as having a bigger plate and easier-to-read menus, so those devices have a distinct layout advantage, but the regular iPhone layout remains playable.
That distinction matters when deciding whether an older iPhone is compatible: the hinge is not the gate. The gate is being able to run iOS 18 or later. If the App Store listing is unavailable on a device, first confirm its exact model and software version rather than assuming the game requires Duo.
What iOS version does Toastie need?
Toastie requires iOS 18.0 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 18.0 or later on iPad. This is the app’s minimum, not a claim that every device that supports some version of iOS can install it.
To check your iPhone software, open Settings > General > About and look at the iOS version. On iPad, use the same path to see the installed iPadOS version. If your device is eligible for a newer system update, check Settings > General > Software Update; update eligibility depends on the device model and the software Apple offers for it.

The game launched as version 1.0 on October 9, 2026. Version 1.1, released October 11, added the fold interaction, iCloud recipe-book syncing, and the enlarged iPad/Duo interface. Version 1.2.1 later added a Halloween special; its published notes do not announce a change to the iOS 18 minimum.
Which iPhones support Toastie?
The oldest iPhones that meet the iOS 18 floor are the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone SE (2nd generation). The following iPhone families can run iOS 18 and therefore meet Toastie’s stated minimum, provided the device is running iOS 18.0 or later:
- iPhone 16 family: iPhone 16e, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
- iPhone 15 family: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
- iPhone 14 family: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
- iPhone 13 family: iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
- iPhone 12 family: iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
- iPhone 11 family: iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The original iOS 18 compatibility list predates some later models. iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 17e, iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Duo are also listed among current devices in coverage and store mirrors from 2025–2026; they run a newer iOS and satisfy the app’s “18.0 or later” requirement. The list of later models is not a reason to raise Toastie’s minimum above iOS 18.0.
Will Toastie run on iPhone XR, iPhone 11, or iPhone SE?
Yes, if the phone is updated to iOS 18.0 or later. The iPhone XR and all iPhone 11 models are in the iOS 18-compatible group; for iPhone SE, the supported starting point is the second generation. The first-generation SE does not meet that floor.
Does Toastie work on iPhone 8 or iPhone X?
No. iPhone X and earlier models, including iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, cannot install iOS 18, so they cannot meet the game’s published requirement. The same applies to iPhone 7, 6s, 6, and 5s.
Do not treat a long device list shown by some App Store catalog mirrors as a supported-device list. Those catalog dumps can include old models such as iPhone 5s, even though that phone cannot run iOS 18. For installation, the OS floor and Apple’s compatibility list are the relevant checks.

Which iPads support Toastie?
An iPad needs iPadOS 18.0 or later. The oldest compatible models in Apple’s iPadOS 18 list are iPad (7th generation), iPad Air (3rd generation), iPad mini (5th generation), 11-inch iPad Pro (1st generation), and 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation).
Other compatible families include:
- iPad Pro: iPad Pro (M4), 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation and later), and 11-inch iPad Pro (1st generation and later).
- iPad Air: iPad Air (M2) and iPad Air (3rd generation and later).
- iPad: iPad (7th generation and later).
- iPad mini: iPad mini (5th generation and later), including iPad mini (A17 Pro).
Three models that ran iPadOS 17 were dropped from iPadOS 18 compatibility: iPad (6th generation), 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation). They therefore do not meet Toastie’s minimum. A new iPad mini reported as arriving November 6, 2026 would meet the OS floor if it ships with a current iPadOS version; a mini-specific layout build has not been confirmed.

The key differences are the physical hinge interaction and screen layout; the core cooking game is available across the supported iPhone and iPad devices.
iPhone Duo: the device becomes the toaster
On Duo, folding the phone shut closes the virtual toaster, and opening it lets you see how the sandwich is cooking. Toastie’s 1.1 release notes describe this as “Toastie now folds.” That physical action is the experience’s signature feature, but it is not required for any recipe or basic game control.
Regular iPhone: use the on-screen lid
On a conventional iPhone, slide the toaster lid shut on screen. The game keeps its standard phone layout. You can still assemble the sandwich, toast it, manage timing, and inspect it; what you lose is the literal fold-to-close action.
iPad: a roomier cooking surface
The iPad version is more than a phone screen enlarged by implication: version 1.1 notes specifically call out a bigger plate, recipe keys beneath the recipe, and easier-to-read menus for iPad and Duo. That interface can be useful if you prefer more space around the cooking area, but the listing does not promise an iPad-only game mode.

Does Toastie sync between iPhone and iPad?
Yes. The developer’s version 1.1 notes say the recipe book syncs through iCloud across iPhone, iPad, and iPhone Duo; the App Store description also says progress syncs across devices. This means a compatible device combination can share the recipe-book progress associated with iCloud.
The notes do not provide a separate setup procedure or describe what happens when devices use different Apple accounts. To use the cross-device feature, sign in to iCloud on the devices you want to sync and allow the game to use iCloud as configured on those devices. If progress does not appear, confirm the same account is in use and that iCloud is available and enabled before assuming the game is incompatible.
Is Toastie available on Android, Mac, Apple Watch, or Apple Vision?
The US product page lists iPhone and iPad. It does not list an Android, watchOS, visionOS, or Mac version, and no confirmed build for those platforms is established here. Treat those platforms as unsupported unless the developer’s current product listing explicitly adds them.
Mac support is particularly easy to over-assume: an app designed for iPad is not automatically confirmed as available or verified for Mac. The game’s US listing does not state whether it can be opened as an iPad app on Apple silicon Macs, so Mac availability remains unstated rather than confirmed.
How can I tell which Toastie app is the game?
Search results contain unrelated apps with the same Toastie name. The compatibility details in this guide apply to Toastie: grilled cheese game, seller Tomasz Szykulski, App Store ID 6813841355, in the Games category. Its official site is toastie.fun.
Do not confuse it with Toastie – Health Tracker by Ardorne Pty Ltd, a separate Health & Fitness app with a different listing and different requirements. Toastie Kitchen Treharris is another unrelated restaurant-ordering app. Confirm the seller and category on the store page before downloading if a search result simply says “Toastie.”

What should I check if Toastie will not install?
Most compatibility problems can be narrowed down by checking the exact model, operating system, and app identity in that order.
- Confirm the app listing. Verify that it is the grilled-cheese game by Tomasz Szykulski, not the health tracker or a restaurant app with the same name.
- Check the device model. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > General > About. Compare the model with the compatible model groups above; a device that cannot run iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 will not satisfy the requirement.
- Check the installed OS version. In Settings > General > About, confirm iPhone has iOS 18.0 or later or iPad has iPadOS 18.0 or later. If a compatible update is offered, use Settings > General > Software Update.
- Recheck availability on the device’s App Store. A compatible model and OS do not guarantee that a listing is available in every storefront or that a particular device is signed into an eligible account. The US listing’s price and availability should not be generalized to every country.
- Separate a missing feature from a compatibility failure. If the game opens but the phone does not fold to close the toaster, that is expected on a regular iPhone or iPad; use the on-screen lid instead.
The App Store listing says the game costs $2.99 in the US, is a one-time purchase, and has no ads, tracking, or in-app purchases. Regional prices differ: iThinkDiff reported €2.99 in Europe, £2.99 in the UK, and 14.99 zł in Poland on October 22, 2026; Kapook reported 99 baht in Thailand on October 28, 2026. Storefront pricing can change, so use the price shown in your own App Store.
