1. Capture the error context
- Copy the complete message, including any application name, path, or error code shown in the dialog.
- Record whether the message appears only for one game or app, or also when Windows starts and when unrelated programs open.
- Note when it began and what changed immediately beforehand, such as an update, installation, uninstall, or cleanup.

The correct source depends on your Windows edition, build, language, and available installation media, so use Microsoft’s documented alternate-source procedure rather than inserting a guessed path or image file.

5. Run System File Checker after DISM finishes
When DISM has completed successfully, run:
sfc /scannowPress Enter and leave the window open until verification reaches 100 percent. Starting SFC before DISM can leave the component source it needs unrepaired, which is why Microsoft puts DISM first.
6. Read the SFC result correctly
SFC reports different outcomes, and each one changes the next step:
