Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is Amazon Games’ modern reimagining of Crystal Dynamics’ 1996 adventure, and its 30th Anniversary teaser confirms a February 12, 2027 launch. The short video flashes through Peru, Greece and Egypt, mixing traversal, traps, puzzles and combat while hinting at the return of the original game’s Golden Lara moment. The game is scheduled for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam.
What does the Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis 30th Anniversary teaser show?
Released after TR30 Tomb Raider Day in Derby, UK, the teaser runs for just over a minute and favors atmosphere over detailed explanation. Slow-motion acrobatic shots show Lara moving through dangerous spaces, while rapid cuts reveal several destinations and glimpses of the systems that define the remake.

When does Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis come out?
The confirmed release date is February 12, 2027. The official PlayStation listing gives that date for PS5 and currently offers pre-orders. Gematsu reports the same date for Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam. A NintendoEverything report mentioned February 10 for Switch 2, but that conflicts with the official PlayStation date and Gematsu’s cross-platform report; February 12 is the safer date unless Nintendo publishes a later platform-specific listing.

Is Legacy of Atlantis a remake or a new Tomb Raider game?
It is a reimagining of Lara Croft’s 1996 debut, not an unrelated new continuity adventure. The original journey’s core idea remains: Lara crosses multiple ancient sites while collecting scattered pieces of the Scion. Modern systems, expanded presentation and newly built environments are being used to reinterpret that structure rather than simply reproduce the 1996 assets.
How it differs from the 1996 original
| Area | 1996 Tomb Raider | Legacy of Atlantis |
|---|---|---|
| Adventure structure | Peru, Greece, Egypt and Atlantis-era locations built around the original campaign | Those inspirations return, with a mysterious Mediterranean island also highlighted |
| Traversal | Grid-based movement and fixed-era platforming | Grappling-hook climbing, jumping and swinging are emphasized |
| Puzzles | Levers, switches and environmental navigation | Modern puzzle devices are promised alongside lethal traps |
| Visual technology | Low-polygon characters and environments | Unreal Engine 5 rendering, hair cards, crafted strands and advanced skin materials |
| Lara’s portrayal | The early, iconic adventurer established in 1996 | The original design remains the anchor while facial animation and characterization are expanded |
Compared with Tomb Raider: Anniversary, the project is positioned as a separate reimagining of the debut rather than a remaster of that 2007 remake. The available material does not specify whether every level layout or boss encounter will be retained exactly.

How is Lara being redesigned for the remake?
Crystal Dynamics says the 1996 silhouette remains the foundation, but the production adds modern character technology. Brendon Bengston explained that the first games relied on “polygons, all big shapes”; the new version uses hair cards, individually crafted strands, subsurface-scattering skin materials and custom facial blend shapes.
The team also had a tailor make Lara’s outfit, placed it on a mannequin and scanned it to create a real-world cloth asset. That process is intended to give fabric, seams and movement more convincing physical detail without abandoning the recognizable original costume.

The teaser celebrates three decades since Tomb Raider’s 1996 debut. Tomb Raider Chronicles reported approximately 2.95 million views across three channels during the first 24 hours: 1.8 million on IGN, 770,000 on the official Play Tomb Raider X account and 380,000 on the official Tomb Raider YouTube channel. Those figures indicate strong immediate interest, although they are launch-day view counts rather than sales or long-term audience measurements.
