Creative Assembly has announced two major future Total War projects: the historical Total War: MEDIEVAL III and the science-fantasy Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000. Neither has an announced release date. Meanwhile, Total War: WARHAMMER III is still set to receive more content after its planned Lords of the End Times pack.
What new Total War games have been announced?
The two headline projects are MEDIEVAL III and WARHAMMER 40,000. They point in different directions: one returns to historical strategy, while the other takes the series to a galactic science-fantasy setting.

What is known about MEDIEVAL III?
SEGA described MEDIEVAL III as being in early pre-production when it announced the project on December 5, 2025. Creative Assembly’s stated vision is a medieval strategy sandbox that brings together grand strategy and tactical real-time battles, as a return to Total War’s historical roots.

The developers have confirmed sieges and Warcore support, and say they intend to share behind-the-scenes development information over time. The announcement does not establish the campaign map, factions, detailed mechanics, platforms or a launch window. Those specifics should be treated as unannounced, not inferred from earlier games in the series.
What is known about Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000?
Announced on December 12, 2025, WARHAMMER 40,000 is planned for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its announced features include a galactic sandbox, planet capture, fleet upgrades, a war economy and real-time battles. The four factions named for launch are Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks and Aeldari.

Chaos Space Marines are not included at launch, according to Game Director Attila Mohacsi’s note, though the studio says they are part of future plans alongside other iconic factions. The same note says the game is intended to support Steam Workshop modding at launch, with official mod tools coming later; PC specifications have not yet been provided in that note. It gives no release date.
Will WARHAMMER III still get updates?
Yes. Creative Assembly announced Lords of the End Times for summer 2026, with four Legendary Lords, new units, lore-inspired objectives and sandbox campaigns. SEGA identified Nagash as the first revealed Legendary Lord and described an accompanying free End Times update.

The official FAQ says more content is planned after Lords of the End Times. It does not publish the full follow-on roadmap, so the pack should not be treated as the end of the WARHAMMER III content plan.
What is Warcore, and which games will use it?
Creative Assembly says all major future releases will use its Warcore engine. The studio’s FAQ identifies WARHAMMER III as an exception that will remain on the current engine, noting that upgrading the custom engine is resource-intensive. MEDIEVAL III is confirmed to use Warcore.

For the console question, the official WARHAMMER 40,000 announcement lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S alongside PC. In a 2025 year-end message, Total War VP Roger Collum said, “We are not going to compromise the PC experience for console.” That statement gives the studio’s design principle; it does not specify interface details, input parity, performance targets or release timing.

SEGA announced Total War: SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition for October 13, 2026. It packages three campaigns and updates the older game for modern hardware, including a 64-bit upgrade, modernized controls and ultrawide support. This is an edition of an existing game, not a newly announced mainline successor to WARHAMMER III.

When are MEDIEVAL III and WARHAMMER 40,000 coming out?
No release date is given for either project in the cited official announcements. SEGA described MEDIEVAL III as early in pre-production; the WARHAMMER 40,000 Game Director explicitly said a date was not being shared. The October 13, 2026 date belongs to SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition, not either new project.
SEGA’s December 2025 announcement also cites more than 48.3 million Total War copies sold. The release does not state the measurement methodology or a distinct as-of date, so that figure is best understood as SEGA’s published franchise total, not a separately verified current count.
