There is no single console-wide switch that disables motion controls, quick-time events (QTEs), button mashing, and every other demanding mechanic. Open the specific game’s Accessibility, Gameplay, or Controls menu and change the option that matches the problem: turn Motion Sensor Function Aiming off for gyro aiming, enable QTE Auto Complete where the game provides it, or change Repeated Button Presses to Hold for rapid-tap prompts. Camera shake, motion blur, and swaying are separate visual effects, while a button remap changes the input location rather than removing the event. The exact labels and available assists vary by game, edition, platform, and patch.
What exactly are you trying to disable?
Start by identifying the source of the barrier. “Motion controls” can mean tilting a controller to aim, steering with a gyro, or camera movement that makes the image uncomfortable. A QTE can be a single timed button prompt, a sequence of prompts, or a repeated-button section. A hold option reduces the physical effort of a prompt but normally does not skip the scene. These are different settings and must be handled separately.

| Problem | Look for | What the change does |
|---|---|---|
| Tilting the controller moves aim or steering | Motion Sensor Function Aiming, gyro, motion aiming | Stops or changes motion-based input in that game |
| A timed prompt is difficult to react to | QTE Auto Complete, QTE Autocomplete, timing assist | May automatically advance the sequence, if documented |
| Rapid button tapping causes pain or fatigue | Repeated Button Presses > Hold, button-mashing assist | Replaces repeated presses with a sustained input; the action remains |
| The image causes nausea or discomfort | Camera shake, motion blur, sway, motion-reduction preset | Reduces visual movement, not controller motion input |
| A control is physically hard to reach | Custom controls, alternate input, remapping | Moves the same command to another button or device |
The Accessible Games Initiative uses separate tags for being playable without motion controls, rapid button presses, and button holds. Treat those as separate capabilities rather than evidence of one universal accessibility switch.
How do I turn off gyro or motion-sensor aiming?
Pause the game, open Accessibility, Gameplay, or Controls, and search for “motion sensor,” “motion aiming,” or “gyro.” Set the aiming function to Off. This is a game-level setting; it is not a guaranteed PlayStation, Xbox, or Windows-wide disable switch.

God of War Ragnarök
In the game’s accessibility controls, Motion Sensor Function Aiming Activation offers Off or Aiming. Choose Off if tilting the controller is moving the reticle. The game also has a motion-reduction preset and separate camera and visual options, so use those only when the discomfort comes from the picture rather than gyro input.
The Last of Us Part I
Motion Sensor Function Aiming can be set to On or Off. This setting concerns motion-based aiming. Camera shake and motion blur are separate controls; turning down blur will not disable gyro aiming, and disabling gyro will not necessarily stop a shaking camera.
If your title uses different wording, consult that game’s publisher guide or its in-game search. Do not assume that an option in one edition appears in a sequel, remake, PC port, or console version.
How do I skip or auto-complete quick-time events?
Look specifically for QTE Auto Complete, QTE Autocomplete, or a similarly named option. Where it exists, it removes the required button presses; a remap or “hold” substitution does not necessarily do that.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Insomniac lists QTE Autocomplete and describes it as: “Auto advance all QTE sequences without button presses.” Enable it before a sequence if you want the game to advance those events automatically. The same accessibility listing includes adjustable game speed and dodge/parry timing, which address different timing problems and should not be treated as QTE switches.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
Insomniac documents a QTE Auto Complete option for the remastered game. That does not establish that every Spider-Man release, platform version, or future patch has the same control. Check the menu for the exact edition you own.

What if there is no QTE auto-complete option?
Check for a repeated-button hold setting, an extended timing option, a game-speed control, or an automatic mode for the particular minigame. These alternatives change the demand without necessarily removing the scene. If none is available, a custom control scheme or platform remap can make the required input easier to reach, but it still leaves the QTE active.
Is holding a button the same as skipping a button-mashing QTE?
No. A hold is an input replacement, not an automatic completion. The game still asks you to perform the action, but you hold one button instead of tapping it repeatedly; a timed animation or encounter can continue normally.
God of War Ragnarök
Under Repeated Button Presses, choose Hold to replace rapid tapping. The game also provides extended puzzle timing and several precision-minigame styles, including Precision, Single Button, and Auto. Select the option that matches the barrier: a hold for repeated presses, extra time for a timing window, or an automatic minigame style where supported.
The Last of Us Part I
The game documents hold/toggle actions and minigame input or timing adjustments. These can reduce the number of continuous presses or change how long you have to respond, but they do not prove that every QTE is removed. Read the description beside each option so you know whether it substitutes an input, extends a timer, or automates a specific activity.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How do I reduce camera shake, blur, or other movement on screen?
Use the visual-motion controls, not the gyro control. Camera shake, motion blur, swaying, field-of-view behavior, and a motion-reduction preset alter what you see. They do not stop a controller’s motion sensor from driving aim or steering.
God of War Ragnarök separates its motion-reduction preset from Motion Sensor Function Aiming Activation. The Last of Us Part I likewise documents motion-sensor aiming separately from camera-shake and motion-blur controls. If tilting is the problem, turn off motion aiming; if the camera movement is the problem, adjust the visual options; if both are uncomfortable, change both categories.

What other gameplay assists can replace a difficult mechanic?
Many games offer targeted assists rather than a master “disable gameplay” command. Use the narrowest option that solves the issue, because a global reduction can affect exploration, combat, puzzles, or timing in ways you did not intend.
- Timing: Look for extended puzzle timing, longer QTE windows, adjustable game speed, or dodge/parry timing.
- Repeated inputs: Look for Repeated Button Presses set to Hold, a toggle, or an automatic mode for a named minigame.
- Minigames: A Precision, Single Button, or Auto style may apply only to that minigame, not to combat or QTEs elsewhere.
- Motor access: Choose alternate control schemes, toggle actions, touchpad or guitar alternatives, or a motor-accessibility preset when the game documents them.
- Visual comfort: Adjust camera shake, blur, sway, and motion-reduction settings independently.
The Last of Us Part II, for example, documents alternate touchpad and guitar input and a motor-accessibility preset in its original accessibility guide. Those details should not be silently applied to another edition or a different game.
How do I remap controls on PS5?
On PS5, open Settings > Accessibility > Controllers > Custom Button Assignments for DualSense Wireless Controller. Assign a difficult command to a button that is easier for you to reach, then confirm the new layout in the game. This changes where the input comes from; it does not document automatic completion of a QTE.
Before buying equipment, open the game’s hub in the PlayStation Store and inspect its listed accessibility features. The listing can indicate whether the title supports motion-free play, rapid-press alternatives, holds, or other assists, but the in-game menu remains the authority for the exact current labels.
Can Steam Input disable gyro or QTEs on PC?
Steam Input is device-configuration software, not a universal QTE or gyro-off command. It can translate or remap controller inputs, but whether it suppresses motion data or changes a game mechanic depends on the game and its input implementation.
Santa Monica Studio gives a specific troubleshooting instruction for God of War PC players who see incorrect DualSense or DualShock prompts: disable Steam Input in that game’s Steam Controller properties. That is a fix for a prompt or input-configuration conflict, not a blanket recommendation for every PC game and not proof that QTEs will be skipped.

For a PC title with unwanted motion aiming, first check the game’s own controls. Only then investigate the controller layer, and change one setting at a time so you can tell whether the game is receiving a remapped command, raw gyro data, or both.
What should I do when the game has no suitable accessibility option?
Use this order: the game’s custom control scheme, the console or PC’s button remapping, then an external adaptive controller or switch setup. This preserves the game’s intended behavior while making the physical input more manageable.
- Read the in-game descriptions. Confirm whether the option skips, substitutes, extends, or merely changes an input.
- Try the least disruptive change. A hold may solve fatigue without removing a scene; a longer timer may solve reaction time without changing combat.
- Remap the control. Put the command on a larger, more accessible, or less painful button.
- Check profiles. Save a game-specific layout so another title is not affected.
- Consider external hardware. Verify compatibility, ports, mounting, and switch requirements before purchase.
Can an adaptive controller remove QTEs?
No. Adaptive controllers change how a command is physically supplied; they do not, by themselves, tell a game to auto-complete a QTE. They are useful when the required input is possible but difficult to perform with a standard controller.
Sony’s Access controller for PS5 supports configurable input, profiles, and four documented 3.5 mm AUX expansion ports. Sony’s guide states support for up to 30 control profiles stored on the console. Microsoft’s Xbox Adaptive Controller is a separate platform-qualified option with external inputs and profiles for Xbox and Windows. Compatible switches and accessories, including the Logitech G Adaptive Gaming Kit for Access controller, require model- and connection-specific checks.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How can I choose the right setting without changing too much?
Use this decision path:
- Does tilting the controller move the reticle? Turn off Motion Sensor Function Aiming or gyro aiming.
- Is the image itself making you uncomfortable? Reduce camera shake, motion blur, sway, or use the motion-reduction preset.
- Is one timed sequence impossible to complete? Look for QTE Auto Complete; if absent, use an extended timer, game-speed adjustment, or a relevant minigame assist.
- Is rapid tapping painful? Set Repeated Button Presses to Hold or use a documented toggle.
- Is the command reachable but physically awkward? Remap it in-game, then at the platform level if necessary.
- Is the required movement still inaccessible? Investigate an adaptive controller or switch setup matched to your platform.
After changing one option, return to a representative scene and observe the result. Did the mechanic disappear, become a hold, gain more time, or merely look less intense? That distinction prevents a common mistake: turning down motion blur while gyro aiming remains active, or remapping a QTE button while expecting the event to vanish.

Which claims should I not assume across games?
Do not assume that a setting travels from one title to another, even when both are on the same console. The documented examples show materially different designs: Spider-Man’s QTE Autocomplete can advance sequences without button presses; God of War Ragnarök’s hold option retains the action while changing the physical demand; The Last of Us Part I separates motion aiming from camera comfort and offers its own minigame adjustments.
Availability can also change by edition, platform, language, and patch. The Spider-Man 2 support page has a November 21, 2025 display date while retaining older planned-update wording, so rely on the options it lists rather than that stale future-tense language. The Last of Us Part II accessibility details come from its original 2020 guide and should not automatically be applied to later releases. Nintendo Switch menu paths and third-party accessory compatibility require title- and hardware-specific confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know whether my game supports motion-free play before I buy it?
Open the game’s PlayStation Store hub and review its accessibility feature listing where available. Look for tags or descriptions such as “Playable without Motion Controls,” then verify the exact in-game menu after installation because listings and editions can differ.
Will changing the controller layout make a QTE happen automatically?
No. A layout change only moves the same command to another button or device. Automatic completion requires a game-level option such as QTE Auto Complete; otherwise you still perform the prompt using the new layout.
What is the best setting for hand fatigue from repeated tapping?
Use a documented Repeated Button Presses > Hold option or a toggle first. If the game lacks one, remap the command or use an adaptive input device, understanding that these approaches preserve the underlying action rather than skipping it.
Why is gyro still active after I turned off motion blur?
Motion blur changes the image-processing effect, while gyro aiming reads controller movement as input. Return to the game’s controls and disable Motion Sensor Function Aiming or its gyro equivalent separately.
