To use Turtle Beach headphones with Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch 2, connect them according to the exact headset model: plug a 3.5 mm headset into the console’s audio jack, pair a headset that supports native Bluetooth audio through HOME > System Settings > Bluetooth Audio > Pair Device, or use the supplied USB transmitter for a transmitter-based model. A Bluetooth headset can play audio, but its microphone cannot be used as Switch 2 microphone input. The Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition megaphone uses the console’s built-in microphone.
The brand name alone does not tell you how a headset connects. Check its model and connection options before choosing a setup: a wireless Turtle Beach headset may use a USB transmitter, native Bluetooth audio, or both. The steps below follow Nintendo’s US support guidance and distinguish those connection types.

Look at the headset’s supplied cable, transmitter, and model instructions. Match what you find to one of these routes; don’t assume that a wireless headset can pair through the Switch 2 Bluetooth menu.
- 3.5 mm wired: The headset has a headphone plug that fits the console’s audio jack. Plug it into the console; no Bluetooth pairing is needed.
- Native Bluetooth audio: The headset itself supports Bluetooth audio and can be placed in its own pairing mode. Use the Switch 2 Bluetooth Audio menu only for this type.
- USB-transmitter wireless: The headset is designed to connect through a separate transmitter. Follow the instructions for that headset and transmitter rather than searching for the transmitter in Bluetooth Audio.
If you’re unsure, check the model’s instructions for the connection method and pairing steps. Button sequences differ by model, so a procedure for one Turtle Beach headset should not be assumed to work on another.

How do I connect a wired 3.5 mm Turtle Beach headset?
Connect the plug to the Nintendo Switch 2 audio jack, then adjust the console and headset volume. This is the most direct route when your headset has a compatible plug and you don’t need to move freely away from the console.
- Locate the headset’s 3.5 mm audio plug.
- Insert the plug into the Switch 2 console’s audio jack.
- Put on the headset and adjust its own volume control, if it has one, along with the console’s volume.
- Open Animal Crossing and check that game audio is coming through the headset.
The Turtle Beach Airlite Fit Wired Headset for Nintendo Switch 2 is one documented example. Nintendo’s listing gives it a passive 3.5 mm connection, a 1.15 m cable, 40 mm speakers, a master-volume wheel, and a flip-to-mute microphone. Those details describe that model, not every Turtle Beach headset. A 3.5 mm headset does not need a wireless pairing step.
Nintendo also documents audio-jack microphone connections through the Switch 2 Pro Controller. That is a separate wired connection route from plugging the headset into the console itself; consult the controller and headset instructions if you use it.
How do I pair a Turtle Beach headset that has native Bluetooth audio?
First put the headset into its own discoverable or pairing mode. Then select it from the Switch 2 Bluetooth Audio settings. This route applies only when the exact headset supports native Bluetooth audio; a USB transmitter is not a Bluetooth device to pair from that menu.
- Check for a Switch 2 system update before pairing.
- Charge the headset, then activate Bluetooth pairing mode using that model’s instructions.
- On the console, open HOME > System Settings > Bluetooth Audio > Pair Device.
- Select the headset’s name when it appears, and follow any on-screen prompts.
- Play a game or other console audio and adjust volume on both the console and headset.
For a headset already saved to the console, open System Settings > Bluetooth Audio, select its name, and choose Connect Device. If the name is missing, check the headset’s model-specific instructions to make sure it is in pairing mode and supports native Bluetooth audio.

Nintendo’s Bluetooth audio guidance notes several limits that can affect play:
- Only one Bluetooth audio device can be active at a time.
- The console can save up to 10 Bluetooth audio pairings.
- While Bluetooth audio is in use, no more than two wireless controllers can be connected. A pair of Joy-Con 2 counts as two controllers.
- Bluetooth audio may have latency, and Bluetooth microphone input is not supported.
How do I connect a Turtle Beach headset that uses a USB transmitter?
Use the transmitter supplied with the specific headset and follow that model’s instructions. For the Stealth 500 for Nintendo Switch 2, Turtle Beach describes using its supplied transmitter and selecting wireless-transmitter mode with QuickSwitch; it distinguishes that mode from Bluetooth mode.
Turtle Beach recommends the headset’s 2.4 GHz wireless mode for console or PC gaming. If the headset is set to Bluetooth instead of transmitter wireless, it may not connect as expected through the transmitter. Check the headset’s selected mode and the model-specific setup directions before troubleshooting the console.
If the Stealth 500 and its transmitter lose pairing, Turtle Beach provides a model-specific recovery sequence involving timed transmitter insertions. Follow the current instructions for that model rather than applying the sequence to another headset. The documented pairing details here are specific to the Stealth 500 for Nintendo Switch 2; do not infer USB-port, microphone, or compatibility behavior for other transmitter models from that example.
Can I use my Turtle Beach microphone in Animal Crossing or GameChat?
It depends on the connection and feature. Nintendo does not support microphone input from a Bluetooth headset, while the Switch 2’s built-in microphone can be used for GameChat. The Switch 2 Edition megaphone in Animal Crossing: New Horizons uses the built-in system microphone, not the headset microphone.

Nintendo states: “Microphone input via Bluetooth is not supported on Nintendo Switch 2.” A Bluetooth headset can still play other people’s GameChat audio; that does not make its microphone available to the console. For a supported connected microphone, check System Settings > Audio > Audio Input to see the selected input, adjust input volume, and use Test Microphone. If a wired or USB microphone is not detected, Nintendo recommends reseating its connection.
Do not assume every Turtle Beach headset microphone works through every connection type. Microphone behavior for USB-transmitter headsets depends on the exact model and its instructions; the documented transmitter information for the Stealth 500 does not establish microphone behavior for all Turtle Beach wireless headsets.
Why can Bluetooth audio stop when I visit an island?
Nintendo disables Bluetooth audio during local communication. In the airport, choosing Via local play starts nearby wireless play, which is different from choosing Via online play to visit over the internet. If Bluetooth audio stops during a nearby-console visit, the local-wireless connection may explain it.
The Switch 2 Edition listing distinguishes multiplayer modes: one to four players on one system, one to eight through local wireless, and one to 12 online. Nintendo’s 2025 announcement described online sessions for up to 12 players when everyone has the Switch 2 Edition, and the current game listing repeats that limit. These are feature limits, not a requirement to buy the Edition just to listen through headphones.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Do I need the Switch 2 Edition, GameChat, or a camera just to use headphones?
No. Headphone audio is a console connection issue; it does not require the Animal Crossing Switch 2 Edition, GameChat, or a camera. Those options matter only if you want their specific game or communication features.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition was released on January 15, 2026, according to Nintendo. Its Switch 2-specific features include the megaphone, GameChat, optional CameraPlay, and online sessions of up to 12 players when everyone in the session has the Edition. Nintendo announced both physical and digital versions of the Edition; owners of the original game can also get a separate paid upgrade pack. These are game-content options, not prerequisites for connecting a wired, Bluetooth, or transmitter headset. The launch prices in Nintendo’s 2025 announcement are not current price guidance.
GameChat is separate from ordinary in-game text chat. As of October 30, 2026, it requires an internet connection and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership; the temporary membership-free period ended March 31, 2026. Audio-only GameChat does not require a camera. CameraPlay for the Animal Crossing Switch 2 Edition requires a compatible USB camera and an online GameChat room; the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera is an optional camera example, not a headphone accessory.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should I check if the headset does not work?
Start with the connection route, then troubleshoot the symptom. A transmitter headset that is in Bluetooth mode, for example, needs a different fix from a wired headset whose plug is not seated.

Why doesn’t my headset appear in Bluetooth Audio?
- Confirm the exact model supports native Bluetooth audio. A transmitter-only headset will not appear as a native Bluetooth audio device.
- Check for a Switch 2 system update, restart the console, charge the headset, and re-enter pairing mode using its instructions.
- Stop local-wireless activity while pairing, keep wireless controllers within Nintendo’s two-controller limit for Bluetooth audio, and move away from possible interference.
- If possible, try another Bluetooth audio device. If that also fails, the issue may be with the console settings or connection rather than the headset alone.
Why is it paired but silent?
- Check headset power and volume, as well as the console’s volume and selected audio source.
- For a transmitter model, confirm it is set to transmitter wireless mode rather than Bluetooth mode.
- For saved native Bluetooth audio, select the device under Bluetooth Audio and choose Connect Device. If that fails, remove the pairing and pair again.
- If sound stops when you go to another island, check whether you chose Via local play rather than Via online play.
Why can’t my friends hear me?
- If the headset is connected through Bluetooth, its microphone cannot provide Switch 2 input. Check whether the built-in console microphone is the selected input for GameChat.
- For a supported connected microphone, open System Settings > Audio > Audio Input, check the selection, adjust input volume, and run Test Microphone.
- For a wired or USB microphone that should be supported, reseat its connection and check the headset’s instructions for the exact model.
- For the Animal Crossing megaphone, speak toward the console’s built-in microphone; that feature is documented to use the system mic.
What can I do about delayed Bluetooth sound?
Nintendo recommends updating and restarting the console, charging the headset, reducing interference, and pairing again. Some Bluetooth devices may still have latency even when the console is working normally; Nintendo suggests wired audio as an alternative. There is no universal setting that guarantees delay-free Bluetooth sound.
Why does my docked TV have a picture but no sound?
Check the TV volume and make sure headphones are not still plugged into the console audio jack. Nintendo’s TV-sound troubleshooting checks for a connected headset, so the silence may be audio routing rather than a fault with the dock or television.

Which connection should I use for Animal Crossing?
Choose based on the hardware you already own and whether Bluetooth restrictions matter to you. You do not need to buy a new headset if your existing model has a compatible connection.
| Connection | Best fit | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Wired 3.5 mm | A headset with a compatible plug, especially when straightforward setup matters. | Connects to the console audio jack. The Airlite Fit is a documented example; its listed cable is 1.15 m. It avoids Bluetooth audio’s documented latency possibility and local-communication restriction. |
| Native Bluetooth audio | A headset that specifically supports native Bluetooth audio when a cable-free connection is preferred. | Pair through Bluetooth Audio. Nintendo warns of possible latency, disables Bluetooth audio during local communication, and does not support Bluetooth microphone input. |
| Supplied USB transmitter | A headset designed for its own transmitter, such as the Stealth 500 for Nintendo Switch 2. | Use the model’s transmitter instructions and selected wireless mode. Do not try to pair a transmitter-only headset from the Bluetooth Audio menu. |
How to choose the setup without buying unnecessary accessories
Use the headset you already have if its connection type is supported and it meets your needs. For wired listening, the audio jack is enough. Native Bluetooth can be convenient but has Nintendo-documented limitations, particularly for Bluetooth microphone input and nearby local wireless play. A headset supplied with a transmitter should be used according to that model’s instructions; its wireless mode is not interchangeable with the console’s native Bluetooth pairing route.
Consider what you want to do before adding anything else. A camera is relevant to CameraPlay, not ordinary listening or audio-only GameChat. The Animal Crossing Switch 2 Edition is relevant to its edition-specific features and player limits, not to basic headset connection. An optional wired controller with a 3.5 mm jack is another possible connection arrangement, but it is not required when the console jack or your existing wireless setup works.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a 3.5 mm headset through the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller?
Nintendo documents audio-jack microphone connections to the Switch 2 Pro Controller. That is a separate wired route from plugging into the console, so check that your headset and controller connections match their instructions.
How many Bluetooth headsets can Switch 2 remember?
Nintendo allows up to 10 saved Bluetooth audio pairings, but only one Bluetooth audio device can be active at a time. When Bluetooth audio is active, the console also limits connected wireless controllers to two; a pair of Joy-Con 2 counts as two.
Do I need a camera for voice-only GameChat?
No. Audio-only GameChat does not require a camera; a compatible USB camera is needed for CameraPlay video in the Animal Crossing Switch 2 Edition’s online GameChat room.
Recommended Free Tools
Do I need to buy Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition to hear game audio in headphones?
No. The Edition is not a requirement for connecting headphones or listening to game audio. It is needed for the Switch 2 Edition’s specific features, such as its megaphone and expanded online player limit.
