Ubisoft’s free weekend for five Assassin’s Creed games ran from August 10 through August 14, 2023. It has ended, and the offer was never a standing free-to-play release. The five titles were Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Which of them you could play depended on your platform and, on Xbox, on your subscription.
Which games were included
Ubisoft’s announcement, published August 8, 2023, listed five games and said participants could access Standard Edition content. Ubisoft described the series in its own promotional copy as follows: “The Assassin’s Creed series spans centuries – and this weekend, you’ll be able to dive into four of those centuries across five adventures for free.” That line is Ubisoft’s editorial copy from its August 2023 announcement, not a quote from a named person.
- Assassin’s Creed II
- Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood
- Assassin’s Creed Revelations
- Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
The headline’s “this weekend” referred to the weekend that followed the August 8 announcement. Any article that still uses that phrasing in the present tense is out of date.
Access by platform
Availability was not the same everywhere. Each platform carried a different subset of the five games, so the answer to “was my game included?” depends on where you played.

Progress carryover and the accompanying sale
Ubisoft said progress made during the free weekend would carry over to the full versions of the games. That statement described the 2023 event only. It does not describe a current offer, and it does not establish whether any carryover mechanism still works.

A sale ran alongside the free weekend, with discounts of up to 85% advertised in some channels. Platform offers and end dates varied, and those prices are historical. They should not be used as a guide to current pricing.
Can you still play these games for free?
Not through this promotion. The offer closed on August 14, 2023. Whether any of the five games is free on a given service today depends on terms that change over time, so check the current state rather than assuming it.

- Experience enhanced features like handheld mode, HD Rumble, a touch screen interface, and motion control aiming.
- Open Ubisoft’s news section and look for a dated announcement from the last few weeks. Ubisoft publishes promotions there with stated start and end dates.
- Open the store page for your platform: Xbox Store, Microsoft Store for PC, Ubisoft Connect, Epic Games Store, or the PlayStation Store. Look for an explicit “free” label and an end date.
- If a route requires a subscription, confirm the subscription tier that currently includes the title. The 2023 event required Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus Extra for certain titles; those terms may have changed.
Buying the games later
If you want to play these games on your own terms, two console products are relevant. The Ezio Collection is Ubisoft’s console edition covering Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations. Black Flag is also named in the 2023 announcement as a console title. Versions, console generations, and current availability vary, so confirm the edition and platform on the store listing before buying.
