“Allowed to explore options” usually means an LEC player remains under contract with the current organization but has permission to speak with other teams about a future season or roster opportunity. The wording does not, by itself, make the player a free agent, confirm a release, waive a buyout, prove a transfer, or identify a new team. A separate agreement, negotiated move, release, or contract expiry is still needed before the player can join another organization.

The clearest recent example is Kadir “Fleshy” Kemiksiz. On October 27, 2026, reporting said Team Vitality had authorized him to seek 2027 opportunities while he remained contracted. That is market access, not a completed transaction.

What does “allowed to explore options” mean in an LEC contract?

It is practical roster-reporting language, not proof of one standard clause used in every player agreement. In plain English, the organization has given the player permission to contact other teams, agents, or representatives and consider offers before the existing contract ends.

The contract itself normally remains in force unless the relevant parties separately change it. The player may still owe performance, conduct, confidentiality, exclusivity, or other obligations under that agreement. The public phrase does not reveal the wording of those obligations or whether any exceptions were negotiated.

EsportNow reproduced Fleshy’s own statement: “I’m still under contract with Vitality but they have allowed me to explore options!” Both parts matter. “Still under contract” describes his legal and roster position; “allowed me to explore options” describes permission to investigate another opportunity.

Why the distinction matters

Roster news often compresses several different events into one headline. Contacting another team, reaching a tentative agreement, negotiating a buyout, signing a contract, and being registered on a new roster are separate stages. Permission to explore covers the first stage, and sometimes the discussions that follow, but it does not establish that any later stage occurred.

Does it mean the player is a free agent?

No. A free agent is generally available to sign without the current organization retaining an active contract right. “Allowed to explore options” says the opposite: the report specifically presents the player as still contracted.

Status reported What it establishes What it does not establish
Under contract, allowed to explore options The current organization permits discussions with other teams while the contract remains active. Free agency, release, a waived buyout, a signed destination, or a completed transfer.
Released The organization has ended or surrendered its contract relationship, subject to the terms of the release. That the player has already signed elsewhere.
Contract expired The stated contract term has ended. That a new team has agreed terms or that the player will remain unattached.
Transfer or buyout agreed The organizations have reached a transaction arrangement, subject to any remaining formalities. That the player has already appeared for the new team.
Signed by a new team A new destination has been announced as agreed. That every league, registration, or prior-contract step is publicly detailed.

Those labels should not be substituted for one another. Unless a separate team statement, player statement, league filing, contract disclosure, or reliable report confirms the change, the careful description remains “under contract but permitted to explore options.”

Can an LEC player talk to other teams while under contract?

Yes, if the current organization gives permission. The permission can allow conversations about a starting role, substitute role, a future-season roster, or another opportunity; the phrase alone does not specify which.

The player may communicate directly or through an agent or representative. Other organizations can assess fit and make proposals, but a proposal is not automatically a binding transfer. The current organization may still need to approve the final move or negotiate terms with the interested organization.

What permission does not tell you

  • Whether the player can negotiate with every team or only selected organizations.
  • Whether there is a deadline for finding a deal.
  • Whether the current organization can match an offer or retain the player.
  • Whether salary, benefits, or other obligations continue unchanged during discussions.
  • Whether the player can compete immediately for another roster.

Those details are private-contract questions unless a party publishes them. Permission to talk is therefore broader than a confirmed move but narrower than unrestricted free agency.

What happens if another team wants to sign the player?

The next step depends on the existing contract and on what the organizations negotiate. Public roster reporting cannot establish the exact mechanics of a particular case, but the decision normally develops through several distinct stages.

  1. Initial contact: The player, agent, or interested organization discusses the role, timing, and basic terms.
  2. Contract review: The parties determine what the current agreement permits and what approvals are required before the player can move.
  3. Organization-to-organization negotiation: If the contract is still active, the current organization and potential destination may need to agree on a transfer, buyout, release, or another arrangement.
  4. Player agreement: The player must agree to the new employment terms. An organization-to-organization deal alone does not prove that the player has signed.
  5. Formal completion: Any required termination, transfer documentation, roster registration, or league process must be completed before the new status is official.

If negotiations fail, the player can remain with the current organization, continue under the existing agreement, or wait for the contract to expire, depending on the contract and the organization’s roster decision. “Exploring” therefore allows a possible path out without guaranteeing one.

What is the difference between exploring options, being released, and being transferred?

The four most useful comparison questions are: Is the player still contracted? May the player negotiate? Who controls the move? How certain is the transaction?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1. Current contract status

An “exploring options” player is reported as still contracted. A released player is no longer bound in the same way because the organization has agreed to end or relinquish the relationship. An expired contract has reached its stated end date. These are different conditions even if all three players are eventually available to another team.

2. Permission to negotiate

Exploring-options language expressly indicates permission to talk before expiry. A release or expiry may make that permission unnecessary, but the public label still matters because it tells readers the player has not yet reached that point.

3. Control over the move

While a contract is active, the current organization may retain approval, buyout, or release rights. The player can evaluate offers, but cannot be described as having unilateral control over a transfer unless a source confirms it.

4. Transaction certainty

Exploratory contact is the least certain stage. “Talks” indicates discussion, “agreement” indicates a reported deal, and “signed” or “transferred” indicates a completed outcome only when a reliable source confirms it. Readers should not leap from the first label to the last.

Does exploring options mean there is no buyout?

No. The phrase says nothing about whether a buyout exists or whether it has been waived. A buyout could be required, renegotiated, reduced, or replaced by a release, but none of those possibilities can be inferred from permission to speak with other teams.

Buyout amounts, salary continuation, matching rights, termination rights, and timing limits are contract-specific. They should be attributed to the contract, a team or player statement, a league filing, or a reliable report that actually discloses them. There is no established standard amount that can be attached to this phrase.

What does the Fleshy report actually confirm?

Reporting dated October 27, 2026, said Team Vitality authorized Kadir “Fleshy” Kemiksiz to seek opportunities for 2027 while he remained under contract. EsportNow reproduced his public wording, including the explicit statement that he was still contracted. The report separated that permission from a release, completed transfer, buyout waiver, or confirmed destination.

Accordingly, the confirmed facts are limited: Fleshy could look for another opportunity, and Vitality had not publicly ended the contract in the cited reporting. The report does not identify a new team, disclose financial terms, or establish that a move will happen.

How should you read an LEC roster update?

Use the following checklist before repeating a headline or social-media post.

  • Identify the exact verb: “Exploring,” “in talks,” “released,” “transferred,” and “signed” carry different levels of certainty.
  • Check the contract wording: Look for an explicit statement that the player remains under contract or that the term has ended.
  • Separate permission from outcome: Permission to contact teams is not evidence that an offer was accepted.
  • Look for both sides of a transaction: A completed transfer may require statements from the current organization, the destination, or an authoritative league source.
  • Do not infer private terms: Salary, buyout, matching rights, and deadlines remain unknown unless disclosed.
  • Record the date: Roster situations can change during an offseason; a permission report is a snapshot, not a permanent status.

Which wording is safest when describing the situation?

Use “allowed to explore options,” “permitted to talk to other teams,” or “under contract but testing the market.” These formulations preserve both parts of the known status.

Use when supported Avoid unless separately confirmed
“The player remains under contract.” “The player is a free agent.”
“The organization allowed the player to explore 2027 opportunities.” “The organization released the player.”
“The player is speaking with other teams.” “The player has signed with another team.”
“A transfer or buyout may need to be negotiated.” “The buyout has been waived” or “there is no buyout.”

This precision prevents a speculative offseason report from becoming a false announcement. It also leaves room for the eventual outcome to be a new contract, a negotiated move, a return to the current roster, or expiry without a signing.

What outcomes can follow permission to explore?

Several outcomes remain possible, and the phrase alone does not rank them.

A negotiated move

An interested organization reaches terms with the player and the current organization completes whatever transfer, buyout, or release arrangement is required. Only a later confirmation would establish that this happened.

No agreement

The player may speak with teams without finding acceptable terms. In that case, the player can remain tied to the current organization under the existing contract, subject to its conditions.

Contract expiry

The player may continue under contract until its end date and become available under the terms that apply after expiry. The exploration report itself does not disclose that date.

A different role with the current organization

Permission to investigate alternatives does not require the player to leave. The organization and player could still settle on a roster position or another arrangement, but that would need separate confirmation.

How we interpret the phrase

The useful test is not whether a move seems likely; it is whether each part of the status is documented. First establish the current contract, then establish permission to negotiate, then look for evidence of an agreed transaction, and finally look for confirmation that the player has joined a new roster. This sequence keeps exploratory news separate from completed roster news.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can “allowed to explore options” be a private arrangement even if fans only hear about it later?

Yes. The phrase may become public through a player statement, team announcement, or reporting after discussions have begun. There is no established requirement that every permission arrangement be announced immediately or in the same wording.

Is exploring options the same as being placed on an LEC transfer list?

Not necessarily. The supplied wording confirms permission to seek opportunities, but it does not establish that a formal transfer-list process exists or that the player has been listed under one.

Does permission to explore change the player’s salary or playing obligations?

The phrase alone cannot answer that. Salary continuation, duties, bench status, and other obligations depend on the contract and any private amendment, none of which is disclosed by the roster wording itself.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How long can an LEC player explore other teams?

No universal period is established by this phrase. A deadline could come from the contract, a negotiated permission, an offseason timetable, or a roster decision, so readers need a dated statement or contract-specific disclosure to know the duration.
