For early progression in Universal Tower Defense, prioritize Zora, Sasuke, and Ace rather than chasing an S-tier label. Zora offers stun and trap damage, Sasuke provides dependable wave clear, and Ace covers air targets while adding burn damage. For long-term investment, Sung Jin-Woo and Dragon Silver are the standout summon targets—but neither is automatically the best first unit for a new account.
There is no single authoritative December 2025 tier list. The major published lists disagree because they use different names, evolved forms, modes, and assumptions about traits, levels, and Etherealization. The rankings below therefore separate early-game usefulness from fully built late-game power.

Why December 2025 tier lists disagree
The December 2025 lists should not be treated as one definitive ranking. AllThings.How’s list ranks units by overall usefulness across common content, including wave clearing, high-HP targets, buffs, and crowd control. Gamepur’s list is marked for the Rebalance Patch and assumes evolved units, maximum level, maximum Etherealization, maximum stats, and optimized builds. UniversalTowerDefense.net’s list was last updated December 15, 2025.
Those assumptions produce very different results:
- AllThings.How places Sung Jin-Woo, Ragna, Dragon Silver, Zaraki/Kenpachi, and Kirito/Kyito in S.
- Gamepur places Jinoo/Monarch, Spade/Donut, Virtual Idol/Super Star, Berserker/Enraged, and Fastcart in S+.
- UniversalTowerDefense.net places Sung Jin-Woo, Dragon Silver, Kirito, and Ragna in S.
Names also vary between base and evolved forms. Sung Jin-Woo may appear as Jinoo or Monarch; Ragna as Dragon Guy or Silverite; Kirito as Kriatu or Cheater; Miku as Virtual Idol or Super Star; Sakuya as Scarlet Maid or World; and Lelouch as Lulu. Do not assume every differently named entry is a separate character, and do not merge base-form and evolved-form rankings without checking the game’s current unit display.

The practical early-game ranking
Best early progression picks
Zora
Zora is one of the most useful early options because traps provide both damage and stun. That combination helps stabilize waves when your account lacks fully developed damage dealers. Crowd control is especially valuable in short or difficult stages where stopping an enemy is more useful than having a unit with a higher theoretical maximum.
Sasuke
Sasuke is the straightforward wave-clear anchor. His value comes from reliable damage rather than a complicated activation condition, making him a safer early investment than units whose passives need specific enemy behavior or long setup time.
Ace
Ace fills two early needs: air coverage and burn damage. Keeping an air-capable unit available prevents flying enemies from invalidating an otherwise strong ground-focused lineup. Ace is therefore useful even when another unit has better headline damage.

The broader early-game recommendations reported by the guides also include Admiral, Pebble, Masked Ninja, Nejo, and Fastcart. Their usefulness depends on the stage, placement restrictions, available upgrades, and whether your team already has damage, control, air coverage, or economy.

The following is the December 2025 overall-usefulness list reported by AllThings.How. It is not an early-account ranking and should not be read as a guarantee that every unit performs equally well in every mode.

This table explains an apparent contradiction: Zora, Sasuke, and Ace can be excellent for a new player while appearing below the top overall tier. A unit can solve early progression problems without having the strongest fully evolved performance in bosses, Infinite, or other late-game content.

What makes the S-tier units strong?
Sung Jin-Woo
Sung Jin-Woo is the clearest long-term summon priority in the retrieved December guides. His shadow summons, summon buffs, and indefinite scaling give him value that grows with investment. He is best viewed as a scaling carry rather than an instant solution for a new account: you still need enough early damage and economy to reach the point where his scaling matters.

Dragon Silver
Dragon Silver combines freezing, stalling, and damage scaling through Silver Battle Trance. That makes him valuable in high-HP waves where delaying enemies creates time for the rest of the team to work. His drawback is ramp time: he requires substantial buildup before reaching full effectiveness.
Ragna
Ragna specializes in extreme boss damage during an awakening window. The trade-off is a self-stun during that window, so the unit is not simply a permanent, uninterrupted damage source. Ragna is most attractive when a stage rewards concentrated boss damage and your team can survive while the ability cycle is unavailable.

Zaraki/Kenpachi
Zaraki offers full-area damage and removes elemental disadvantages, giving him unusually broad coverage. That flexibility matters when a stage’s enemy elements would otherwise force you to rebuild your lineup.
Kirito/Kyito
Kirito ramps through Virtual Mode and stacked buffs. Like Dragon Silver and Ragna, his ranking reflects a developed build and a stage long enough for his mechanics to matter, not necessarily his performance immediately after being summoned.
Economy units: Fastcart versus Namo
Fastcart is the dedicated farm unit. Each placement reduces the cost of the next upgrade, and Gamepur places Fastcart in S+ in its Rebalance Patch list. Its value is economic rather than direct damage: better early income can let your carry reach important upgrades sooner.

Namo is an alternative economy unit. Its passive causes enemies it hits to generate three times the money, but the retrieved guidance says Namo earns less than Fastcart during the early waves. Choose Namo when it is what you have available or when its attack conditions fit a particular stage; choose Fastcart when your goal is the strongest dedicated farming option described by these sources.

Rarity alone does not determine a unit’s value. Fastcart is reported as an Epic unit despite being a top economy pick, while lower-rarity units such as Zora, Pebble, and Nejo can be useful during early progression.
When assembling a team, account for the unit’s:
- Placement type: Ground, Hill, Hybrid, or Support/Farm.
- Element: Fire, Water, Ice, Wind, Rose, Dark, or Light.
- Signature ability: damage, stun, slow, freeze, buffs, summons, or economy.
- Traits and Etherealization: these can materially change a unit’s performance.
- Relic sets and evolutions/EVOs: late-game rankings may assume these upgrades.
A sensible early team usually needs dependable wave clear, an answer to flying enemies, some crowd control, and enough economy to fund upgrades. Boss stages may shift the priority toward burst damage and survivability; Infinite and challenge content may reward scaling, stalling, or specialized support instead.
Units to use cautiously
Several units look attractive on paper but have documented conditions that limit their consistency:

- Genos/Cyborg: self-stun reduces consistency.
- Isagi/Footballer: the damage buff depends on failing to kill an enemy, which conflicts with normal wave-clear goals.
- Shanks: the damage buff depends on securing kills, making its value sensitive to kill ownership and wave pace.
- Shikamaru: his low-cost slow helps early but falls off as wave requirements rise.
- Goku/Roku: Wave Skip can prevent the attack-based passive from stacking sufficiently.
- Gaaru: the reported full-upgrade stun does not work, so do not select the unit primarily for that effect without confirming the current in-game behavior.
- Nataru/Nutaru: some bonuses are difficult to trigger, and one listed bonus requires a Mythic.
- Lulu: she does not deal damage before the final upgrade and is expensive, making her a poor fit for short stages.
- Dragon Silver and Ragna: both require meaningful buildup before reaching their full potential.
A practical December 2025 decision guide
- Starting Story progression: use Sasuke for wave clear, Ace for air coverage, and Zora for control if available.
- Need economy: use Fastcart when available; consider Namo as an alternative rather than treating it as an equal replacement.
- Planning long-term summons: prioritize Sung Jin-Woo or Dragon Silver when they appear in the banner index.
- Fighting bosses: consider Ragna for burst damage, while accounting for the awakening self-stun.
- Facing elemental restrictions: Zaraki’s removal of elemental disadvantages can be especially valuable.
- Playing long waves: scaling units such as Sung Jin-Woo, Dragon Silver, and Kirito have more time to justify their investment.
Because the retrieved sources do not identify an official version number, patch number, formal changelog, or official rebalance notes, treat this as a December 2025 snapshot rather than a permanent ranking. In-game balance, names, evolutions, and banner contents can change independently of third-party tier pages.
