If a released Steam game now contains player-facing AI content that its disclosure does not describe, correct the game’s Steamworks Content Survey, specifically Generative Artificial Intelligence Content. If the affected result is editable, save the accurate answer there. If Steamworks locks it, contact Steam Support with a summary of the change, the affected survey result, and instructions for a tester to reach the content. Update any inaccurate store-page wording and the game build through their own publishing workflows; neither a description edit nor a build upload substitutes for correcting the survey.
This guide explains how to classify the change, what Valve means by pre-generated and live-generated AI, what information to send Support, and how to keep the survey, store page, and shipped build consistent after release.

What is the correct place to update a Steam game’s AI disclosure?
The authoritative disclosure is the Steamworks Content Survey, not only the free-form text on the public store page. Open the application’s Content Survey and review the Generative Artificial Intelligence Content section. That is where Valve asks developers to identify relevant AI-created content and, for live generation, provide information about safeguards against illegal output. Valve’s documentation describes the survey and its post-approval correction process here: Steamworks Content Survey.
A store-page statement can explain the feature to customers, but changing that copy does not document a changed survey answer. Likewise, uploading a new build changes what players receive, not the account-side survey record. Treat the three items as separate records that must agree:

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Content Survey: the disclosure Valve uses to understand the game’s content.
- Store page: the public description and other customer-facing text.
- Build: the executable content delivered through Steam branches and the default release.
Start with the survey because it identifies the compliance information that may be missing. Then update whichever public text or binary content is also inaccurate.
Does the change involve content players consume?
Classify the implementation before editing anything. Valve’s AI survey is aimed at content that reaches players, either because it was made during development and shipped in the game or because the game creates it while running. AI used only to improve a developer’s internal efficiency is not the primary focus of this survey section.

Player-facing examples
Review whether AI helped create artwork, sound, narrative, localization, or another element that players can encounter. “Created” can mean generated ahead of release and packaged with the game, or generated dynamically during play. Use the actual implementation rather than a marketing label such as “AI-powered.”
Development-only tools
Valve acknowledges AI tools embedded in development environments, but the survey guidance says efficiency gains in those tools are not the focus. If a tool helped a team draft code, organize work, or accelerate production without shipping AI-created player content, do not infer that the game belongs in the generative-content disclosure solely for that reason. If the tool did produce content that ships or is generated for players, classify that output instead.
Inventory questions
- What content was generated with AI?
- Can a player encounter or consume that content in the released game?
- Was it generated before release and packaged, or generated while the game runs?
- Did the latest update add a type of content that the previous survey answer did not cover?
- Does the existing answer now describe the implementation inaccurately?
Keep a short internal inventory of the affected asset or feature, the version in which it appeared, and a reproducible way to reach it. You will need those details if Steamworks allows an edit or if Support asks for access instructions.
What is the difference between pre-generated and live-generated AI content?
Pre-generated content is produced during development and shipped for players to consume. Live-generated content is produced while the game is running, in response to play, player input, or another runtime event. The distinction is about when generation occurs, not whether the underlying model runs on your servers or a player’s machine.

| Question | Pre-generated AI content | Live-generated AI content |
|---|---|---|
| When is the content created? | During development, before the content is packaged for release. | During runtime, while the game is running. |
| What does the player receive? | Assets or material shipped in the build for players to consume. | New output created as the player uses the game. |
| Typical player-facing forms | Artwork, sound, narrative, localization, and other shipped material. | Runtime artwork, dialogue, text, audio, or other generated material. |
| Extra survey information | Describe the relevant pre-generated content. | Describe the relevant content and the guardrails intended to prevent illegal output. |
These categories are not interchangeable. A game can contain one, the other, or both. If an update adds a runtime generator to a game that previously shipped only fixed assets, review every applicable answer rather than changing only the pre-generated description.

For live generation, document the controls that are actually implemented: for example, filtering, moderation, blocked prompts, output rejection, or other mechanisms designed to prevent illegal content. Do not claim a safeguard that the game does not use. Valve’s survey guidance specifically calls for an explanation of these guardrails for live-generated AI.
How do I update an editable AI survey result?
If Steamworks presents the affected result as editable, correct it directly in the Content Survey. Valve does not publish a universal post-approval click sequence for every partner account, so labels or permissions may differ. The reliable path is to work from the application’s survey and the Generative Artificial Intelligence Content section.
- Record the current implementation. Write down what changed, which content is AI-created, whether it is pre-generated or live-generated, and the game version that contains it.
- Open the application in Steamworks. Go to the application’s Content Survey and locate Generative Artificial Intelligence Content.
- Review every relevant answer. Check whether the old response still describes the shipped content. If the update adds a second mode, answer for both modes where the survey allows it.
- Correct the classification and description. Describe the actual player-facing content. Avoid substituting a broad statement about using AI tools in development for a description of what players encounter.
- Add live-generation guardrails. When content is created during play, explain the controls intended to prevent illegal output, using the implementation’s real behavior.
- Save and complete any submission control shown by Steamworks. Keep a copy of the submitted wording and the date for your release records.
- Recheck the result after saving. Confirm that the answer displayed for the application matches the version you intended to submit. If Steamworks refuses the edit or marks the result locked, stop trying to force the field and use the Support route below.
Do not assume that every post-approval AI question can be changed by the partner. Valve’s FAQ says that some survey questions become uneditable after the build and store page have been approved; it does not say that every AI field is always locked or always self-editable.
What should I do when Steamworks locks the affected result?
When the relevant result cannot be edited, contact Steam Support through the route linked from Valve’s Content Survey documentation. Valve asks for three specific pieces of information:
- A concise change summary: explain what was added, removed, or changed and when it entered the game.
- The affected survey result: identify the Generative Artificial Intelligence Content answer that is no longer accurate, including whether the issue concerns pre-generated content, live-generated content, or both.
- Tester access instructions: give a reviewer a practical path to see the content. Include the menu, level, quest, mode, prompt, account state, or test branch needed, as applicable.
Make the access path deterministic. If the feature requires a particular save, branch, entitlement, or network condition, state that explicitly. Explain what output the tester should expect without promising that every possible generated result will be identical.
Valve’s documentation does not publish a service-level agreement or guaranteed processing time for a support-assisted survey correction. Do not represent an ordinary update review statement as a turnaround promise for this request. The Support form may redirect visitors who are not authenticated to sign in, so use the Steamworks partner account that has access to the application.
Save the ticket or case details with your release records. Until Valve confirms the correction, keep the store page and build truthful rather than relying on a pending request as proof that the survey has changed.

How do I update the public store-page description?
Correct store-page wording separately when the public description, feature list, or disclosure text no longer matches the game. Valve’s Store Page, Building and Editing documentation describes this workflow.
- Open the application’s store-page editor in Steamworks.
- Edit the text that describes the AI-created content or runtime generation.
- Use the available preview controls to check formatting and context.
- Save the changes, then open the Publish tab and publish them.
- Visit the live store page and verify the public result.
Saved but unpublished edits are not public. Valve states that store-page changes appear on the store page immediately after publishing them. That statement applies to a published store-page edit; it does not establish when Steam Support will process a locked survey result.
Write the public explanation for customers, not as a substitute for survey terminology. If the game has both fixed AI-created assets and runtime generation, say so plainly. If the public page does not need a change, do not add promotional language merely because the survey was corrected.
How do I update the game build without confusing it with the survey correction?
A build update is a separate deployment. Valve’s Updating Game Build guidance describes uploading and testing a build on a test branch, then selecting the intended build as the new default for players.
- Upload the changed build to Steamworks.
- Place it on a test branch and verify that the AI feature and its disclosure description correspond to that build.
- Give testers the branch name and any access conditions needed to reproduce the feature.
- After validation, set the chosen build as the new default for players using the deployment controls.
- Record the build identifier and release date alongside the survey and store-page changes.
Changing a survey answer does not upload a build, and uploading a build does not automatically revise the survey. If the AI feature is already in the live build, a survey correction may be the only required binary action; if the feature is new, deploy the build through the normal branch workflow as well.
How should I verify that the public result is consistent?
Verification means checking what customers can read and what they can actually access, while recognizing that a support-assisted survey change may not have a published completion time.
- Check the live store page. Confirm that the published wording accurately describes the feature and does not contradict the survey submission.
- Check the default build. Confirm that the feature is present, absent, or gated exactly as the page says. If it is on a branch, note that fact instead of describing it as available to every customer.
- Follow the tester path. Use the same route supplied to Support and confirm that the content can be reached without undocumented assumptions.
- Review runtime controls. For live generation, verify that the described safeguards are still enabled in the released configuration.
- Keep an evidence record. Store the published page text, build identifier, survey wording, and Support case reference so a later update can be compared with the current state.
Valve says it compares survey answers with store-page and build content during its review. Consistency therefore matters even when an approved game generally does not repeat its initial review for ordinary updates. The general review statement is not a waiver of the specific instruction to contact Support when a post-approval survey result is locked.

What common mistakes prevent a correct disclosure?
Editing only the store page
A public paragraph can inform customers, but it does not correct an inaccurate Content Survey result. Update both records when both are wrong.

The survey section focuses on AI-created content shipped to or generated for players. Internal efficiency tooling alone does not answer the player-content question.
Describing live generation without guardrails
Live-generated content has an additional requirement: explain the safeguards intended to prevent illegal output. A generic “content is moderated” sentence is insufficient if it does not reflect the actual controls.
Assuming every field is editable
Some post-approval results can be locked. Check the field in your own account; if editing is unavailable, send the three requested items to Support.
Assuming disclosure grants permission
Disclosure does not override Steam’s content rules. Valve states that those rules apply regardless of what a developer reports in the survey.

Ignoring the adult-only live-generation restriction
Valve’s current FAQ says it does not want to ship Adult Only Sexual Content generated live by AI at this time. This is a specific restriction, not evidence of a blanket ban on every AI-created asset or every adult-themed game. Treat the wording narrowly and review the current policy before shipping a borderline feature.

| What is inaccurate? | Primary workflow | Is Steam Support needed? | What becomes publicly verifiable? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generative AI survey answer, and the field is editable | Edit the application’s Content Survey under Generative Artificial Intelligence Content and save the correction. | Not normally, unless Steamworks blocks the change or directs you to Support. | The account-side survey record; confirm that the store page and build still match. |
| Generative AI survey answer, but the field is locked | Send Support the change summary, affected result, and tester access instructions. | Yes, using the Steamworks partner account. | The public page and build can be checked while the support request is pending; Valve does not publish a processing SLA. |
| Written store-page description | Edit, preview if needed, and publish through the store-page editor. | No separate Support request is established for ordinary text editing. | Valve says the published store-page change appears immediately. |
| Shipped executable or content package | Upload to a test branch, validate, then set the selected build as default. | No survey correction is implied by deployment; Support is separate if the survey is locked. | The selected default build and any branch made available to testers. |
Use more than one row when one release changes more than one layer. For example, a patch that adds runtime-generated dialogue may require a build deployment, a store-page edit, and an editable survey correction—or a Support request if the survey result is locked.

What should be in an internal disclosure checklist?
Before publishing an update, use a checklist that ties each statement to a concrete part of the product:
- Feature name and release version.
- AI-created asset or runtime system involved.
- Player-facing location where the content appears.
- Classification as pre-generated, live-generated, or both.
- For live generation, the implemented controls intended to prevent illegal output.
- Current Content Survey answer and the proposed correction.
- Whether Steamworks allows the result to be edited.
- If locked, the Support summary, affected result, and tester access route.
- Store-page text before and after publication.
- Build identifier, test branch, and default-branch deployment status.
- Post-publication verification date and account owner.
This record helps prevent a common release problem: a corrected sentence describing a feature that is not in the default build, or a live feature that exists in the build but is absent from the survey.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Does an approved game face another full review for this correction?
Valve’s Review Process says an approved game generally does not repeat its initial review for ordinary updates. That general statement should be read alongside the Content Survey instruction to contact Support when a specific post-approval result cannot be edited. It does not promise approval, waive content rules, or provide a turnaround time for a disclosure correction.
Keep the update factual and reproducible. Valve can compare the survey with the store page and build, so a precise tester route and synchronized public information are more useful than a broad claim that the game “uses AI.”
What is the practical sequence for a released game?
For most post-release corrections, the shortest reliable sequence is:
- Inventory the new or previously undisclosed player-facing content.
- Classify it as pre-generated, live-generated, or both.
- Open the Content Survey and review Generative Artificial Intelligence Content.
- Edit and save the result if Steamworks permits it; include live-generation guardrails where required.
- If locked, contact Support with the change summary, affected result, and tester access instructions.
- Update and publish store-page wording separately if it is inaccurate.
- Deploy a changed build separately through a test branch and default-build workflow when the binary changed.
- Check the live page, default build, and tester path for consistency, then retain the records.
That sequence keeps disclosure, customer-facing copy, and executable content synchronized without treating one workflow as a substitute for another.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I fix the disclosure by adding an AI note to the Steam store description?
No. A store-page note is a separate public edit and does not replace the Generative Artificial Intelligence Content answer in the Content Survey. Correct both when both contain outdated information.
What if my AI feature is available only on a beta branch?
Describe the feature’s actual availability and give Support the branch name and access requirements in the tester instructions. Do not describe branch-only content as available in the default release until that build is deployed to players.
Does Valve publish a deadline for Support to unlock a survey answer?
The cited Content Survey guidance does not provide a service-level agreement or guaranteed processing time for locked-result corrections. Plan releases without assuming a particular response date.
Are AI tools used to write code automatically part of the disclosure?
Not necessarily. Valve’s survey discussion focuses on AI-created content that ships to players or is generated while the game runs, rather than development-only efficiency gains. Classify the player-facing output, if any, instead of the internal tool alone.
