Valve has not released a new Steam Deck Windows APU driver in 2026, according to the dates currently listed on its official Windows Resources page. The latest listed package for the Steam Deck OLED is dated August 15, 2024, while the LCD model’s package is dated November 17, 2023.
Valve’s Windows-driver activity in July 2026 primarily concerned Steam Machine. The updated resources page does not indicate that either Steam Deck model received a new APU package.

What Valve actually released
Valve maintains an official Steam Hardware – Windows Resources page containing Windows drivers for Steam Deck hardware and newer Steam hardware.

The page’s 2026 activity should not be confused with a new Steam Deck APU release. It includes Windows resources for Steam Machine, while the Steam Deck packages retain their older listed dates:

As of August 16, 2026—the latest date covered by the available source material—Valve’s page did not show a newer Steam Deck APU-driver date.
This is separate from SteamOS 3.8 graphics-driver changes. SteamOS uses a Linux graphics stack; an update to that stack is not a Windows driver update.
Which driver should you download?
Use Valve’s official page rather than a third-party driver archive, modified package, or random download mirror. The page separates the downloads by hardware:

Do not assume that the two APU packages are interchangeable. Valve lists them separately and gives them different update dates.
What the APU driver does
The Steam Deck’s APU combines the system’s processor and integrated graphics hardware. In Windows, its driver is essential for the graphics device used by games and other GPU-accelerated software.
Valve lists other Windows components separately on the same page, including drivers for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, audio, and the SD-card reader. Installing only the APU package will not necessarily restore those functions after a fresh Windows installation.
Valve’s page does not provide a detailed changelog for the listed Deck APU packages. There is therefore no official basis for promising faster games, longer battery life, fewer stutters, or broader game compatibility from installing them.
How to install the official APU driver
- Identify your Deck. Confirm whether it is the LCD or OLED model.
- Back up important files. Keep a recovery plan available before changing system drivers.
- Open Valve’s official Windows Resources page.
- Download the APU package for the correct model.
- Extract the archive if Windows downloads it as a compressed file.
- Run
setup.exe. This is the installation method specified by Valve. - Follow the installer prompts and restart Windows when installation finishes.
- Verify the result. Open Device Manager, check the display adapter, and test a game.
If networking, audio, Bluetooth, or SD-card access is still missing, return to Valve’s page and install the relevant supporting packages separately.
OLED owners have an additional Bluetooth caveat
Valve’s documentation says that proper Bluetooth operation on Steam Deck OLED requires a sufficiently recent BIOS obtained through SteamOS Beta update 3.6.9 or later before installing Windows. The same documentation describes Bluetooth audio as output-only, with microphone functionality still being worked on in the listed material.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you install the driver?
Installing the official package makes sense when Windows does not correctly identify the Deck’s integrated graphics, games show abnormal graphics performance, Windows has been reinstalled, or the existing driver is missing or corrupted.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThere is no reason to reinstall it automatically simply because AMD has published a newer generic Adrenalin package. Steam Deck uses a semi-custom AMD platform, and Valve does not state that generic AMD packages are officially supported for the Deck.
Best Value
- 512 GB NVMe SSD: Fast storage for quicker game load times and space for larger game libraries.
- OLED Display: 1200x800 resolution with deep contrasts and vibrant colors for a captivating visual experience.
- Custom AMD APU: Power-efficient Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU for desktop-level gaming performance.

- Versatile Controls: With built-in thumbsticks, trackpads, and touchscreen controls, you have full control over your gaming experience.
Also remember that the existence of Windows drivers is not the same as full Windows support. Valve provides the resources “as is” and says it does not offer support for Windows on Steam Hardware. Windows may provide access to Windows-only launchers, games, or anti-cheat configurations, but using it can mean giving up some of SteamOS’s integration and dealing with driver and compatibility problems yourself.
Common problems and fixes
The wrong package was installed
Check the hardware model first. LCD owners should use the LCD entry, and OLED owners should use the OLED entry. Do not switch packages casually or treat the models as identical.
Windows Update changed the driver
Windows Update can replace manufacturer-supplied drivers. If performance or functionality changes after an update, record the graphics-driver version in Device Manager before rolling back or reinstalling Valve’s package. This is general Windows troubleshooting advice, not a Valve-confirmed behavior specific to these releases.
Only graphics works
The APU installer covers the APU, not every device in the Deck. Install the separate Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, audio, and SD-card-reader packages from Valve’s page as needed.
Windows becomes unusable
Keep Valve’s SteamOS recovery instructions available before experimenting. Recovery may involve reinstalling the operating system and can affect local data, so preserve important files and do not delete recovery media or instructions prematurely.
The bottom line
Valve’s Windows Resources page is useful for Steam Deck owners, but it is misleading to describe the 2026 page activity as a new Steam Deck APU-driver release. The latest listed official package remains the August 15, 2024 driver for OLED and the November 17, 2023 driver for LCD. Download the correct model-specific package from Valve, install it with setup.exe when Windows needs it, and do not expect the package to guarantee better performance or full Windows support.
