You do not need to buy Volcano Princess again: the original Steam game is scheduled to receive the Complete Edition content as a free update. The reported Steam release date is October 30, 2026, although Steam’s rollout can take time to reach every account or download region. To install it, open the game in your Steam Library and let the update finish in Downloads. Before launching a major update, make a safe copy of your save folder.

These are additions to the copy of Volcano Princess you already own on Steam, not a separate product that requires another purchase or a second library entry.

The date is a scheduled release date, not a promise that every account will see a download at the same minute. Steam distributes updates through its content system and download regions, so rollout visibility can differ while the release is being deployed. If it is October 30 or later and Steam has not offered the update yet, use the checks below rather than buying another edition or downloading an unofficial patch.
Do existing owners need to buy Complete Edition?
No. The developer said that once the free update rolls out, the original Volcano Princess will be upgraded to include all of the Complete Edition content. Existing PC players can therefore receive the new features in the game already attached to their Steam account at no additional cost. Do not look for a separate paid “Complete Edition” license to unlock the update.

Make a manual backup of your save folder before you launch the updated build. This is a precaution, not a claim that saves will be lost: the developer has previously documented save migrations and recommended backing up before an update that changes the save structure, but that guidance does not establish exactly how every Complete Edition save will migrate.

Copy the entire VolcanoPrincess folder to a separate, safe location before opening the game after the update. Keeping the whole folder preserves the files together rather than selecting individual saves. You can give the copied folder a clear name such as a date-stamped backup, but do not alter the original folder while you are making the copy.
Keep the backup intact until you have confirmed that the updated game starts, your expected save appears, and you can load it normally. If the save is missing or unexpected, close the game without overwriting the backup and use that copy while investigating. The documented path is for Windows; the published guidance does not establish save-folder locations for other operating systems.

Steam normally queues game updates in the client. Use the Library and Download Manager to check its status, and wait for the download and installation to finish before launching if you want to confirm the updated build is installed.

Open Downloads to check the Download Manager. Watch for the Volcano Princess transfer and installation stages, and wait until the job is complete. If it is paused or failed, resolve that status before launching.

Once the update has finished, launch the game normally. If Steam shows a Play button while an update is still pending, wait for the update to complete first if your goal is to use the new build rather than the older installed files.
Steam’s Download Manager is also the best place to distinguish a missing update from a slow one. An entry that is queued or actively transferring means the client has recognized the update. What order should I try the fixes in?
Use the least disruptive checks first: inspect Downloads, confirm the game’s update preference, and restart Steam and the computer. If the job still fails, clear the download cache. If Steam indicates a library or write problem, repair the library folder. If the symptoms look like a regional server issue, change the download region temporarily. Return to Downloads after each step and allow any resumed transfer to finish.
Do not repeatedly launch the game while the update is queued. Doing so can make it harder to tell whether you are testing the new installation or the previous build.
