BULKHEAD has said it designed WARDOGS with performance targets for lower-end hardware, but the available statements do not confirm that Xbox Series S is forcing the studio to hold back specific features. Its developer video describes a 60 FPS goal and separate graphics tiers for PC; Microsoft lists the game as optimized for Xbox Series X|S. Those facts establish performance planning and platform support—not a Series S bottleneck.
What BULKHEAD has said about WARDOGS performance
In a developer-published performance video, BULKHEAD says performance goals were part of development from the beginning. The studio says it has been trying to reach 60 FPS on low-spec hardware and calls 60 FPS its minimum bar. That is a stated development target, not independent confirmation of the frame rate the game achieves on every system.
The same video describes distinct PC graphics tiers: Potato Mode for lower-end systems and an Overkill preset for high-end PCs. BULKHEAD said Overkill would be limited to 40-series graphics cards and above at launch. That restriction is a launch-era statement from the studio; it should not be taken as confirmation of the current preset requirements.
Does Xbox Series S make WARDOGS hold back features?
The evidence available does not establish that causal claim. Microsoft’s official Xbox listing identifies BULKHEAD as developer, Team17 Digital Ltd as publisher, and WARDOGS as optimized for Xbox Series X|S. It confirms the game’s platform status, but says nothing about features withheld because of Series S.

A Steam community post summarizes a separate developer interview by saying the team can reach a 2 km player and vehicle render distance but is holding back. That summary does not connect the decision to Series S, and it is not a primary transcript. It therefore cannot substantiate the headline’s specific causal wording.
What “low-end hardware” means here
BULKHEAD’s remarks concern performance goals and PC graphics options. They should not be conflated with console feature parity: a lower-end PC preset can reduce visual settings to accommodate different hardware, while a claim that one console limits features across platforms would require a specific statement or technical evidence tying that limit to the console.

Why developers discuss Series S trade-offs
Series S is part of a broader multi-platform development debate because developers must account for systems with different capabilities. TechRadar’s interviews with developers describe the work involved in supporting a lower-powered console alongside more powerful platforms. The discussion also notes that planning for the least powerful target early can help teams manage constraints, while platform parity can benefit consumers.
Rose McKee, game producer for Slave Zero X, told TechRadar: “It’s understandably frustrating if you run into issues meeting that [parity] requirement, but I think this is the kind of thing that benefits the consumers immensely, and a little bit of planning can make it a non-issue.” That is general industry context, not a statement about WARDOGS or BULKHEAD.

For WARDOGS, the defensible conclusion is narrower: the developers say performance on low-spec hardware mattered early, and the game is listed as optimized for Xbox Series X|S. The available statements do not identify a particular feature being withheld because of Series S.
