First identify where Space Marine 2 fails: before the main menu, while loading a later mission or session, or only after a game or graphics-driver update. Saber Interactive has an ordered guide for a black screen or a game that will not launch before the menu; that guidance does not establish one universal fix for every later loading stall.
Identify the failure stage before troubleshooting
- Before the main menu: Does the game close, remain on a black screen, or never appear after you press Play? Follow the not-launching steps below.
- After reaching the menu: Does the game stop while loading a mission or session? The official launch guide is specifically about failures before the main menu, and the sources available do not establish a dedicated universal fix for later loading stalls. Start with the general checks, then report the exact stage if it persists.
- After an update: Did the issue begin after a game update or graphics-driver change? Verify the game files first, then use the relevant symptom path. A failed or interrupted update can leave a file the game cannot read, according to Saber’s crash guidance.
Saber’s launch article covers a black screen before the main menu and a game that never appears after pressing Play. Its steps are ordered, so try the quick, reversible checks before reinstalling.
Try the general fixes first
1. Restart the PC
Restart Windows, then launch the game again. Saber places this first in its crash troubleshooting sequence.
2. Verify the game files
Use the verification option for the storefront where you installed the game:

- Steam: Library → right-click Space Marine 2 → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
- Epic Games Store: Library → select the three-dot menu beside the game → Manage → Verify.
- Xbox app: My Library → Space Marine 2 → Manage → Files → Verify and repair.
Verification checks the installed files and can replace damaged or missing data without starting with a full reinstall. If the update was interrupted, this is a sensible next step.
3. Temporarily close overlays and background utilities
Close overlays and monitoring or peripheral utilities, then test the game. Saber names Discord, Steam, NVIDIA App and AMD Adrenalin overlays, along with Corsair iCUE, Razer Synapse and Logitech G HUB. Focus also lists RTSS/RivaTuner and the GeForce Experience performance overlay in its PC troubleshooting checklist. Treat this as an isolation test, not proof that any one utility caused your problem. Re-enable programs one at a time if the game works, to identify whether a particular one matters.

4. Reset the shader cache if crashes or stutters continue
Saber’s crash article gives cache-clearing instructions for NVIDIA and AMD. For NVIDIA, its listed cache folders are %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalNVIDIADXCache and %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalNVIDIAGLCache. For AMD, use AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition → Gaming → Graphics → Advanced → Reset Shader Cache. Close the game before clearing the cache. The first launch afterward can take longer while shaders rebuild, and some initial stutter is expected.
5. Test with fewer USB devices
Disconnect extra USB devices and controllers temporarily to check for an input or driver conflict. If the game crashes immediately on launch, Saber suggests starting with just a mouse and keyboard, then reconnecting a gamepad at the main menu.

If the game shows a black screen or will not reach the menu
For a failure before the main menu, follow Saber’s ordered launch troubleshooting guide. It frames this path around the game closing before the menu, showing a black screen, or not appearing after Play.
- Check whether security software blocked Easy Anti-Cheat. Review antivirus or Windows Security notifications and protection history. If the game or Easy Anti-Cheat was blocked, allow the legitimate game files through the relevant security control.
- Clean-install the graphics driver. Use the applicable NVIDIA or AMD vendor instructions rather than layering another driver installation over the existing one.
- Perform a clean boot. This starts Windows with a reduced set of startup services, helping determine whether background software is interfering. If the game launches, re-enable services in groups to narrow down the conflict; restore normal startup afterward.
- Reinstall only after the faster checks fail. Saber notes that reinstalling can replace game files that a verification pass does not repair. It is a later step, not the first response to a black screen.
If it gets past the menu but hangs while loading
A stall during a later mission or session load is a different symptom from failing to reach the menu. The official Saber launch guide does not identify a dedicated fix for that stage, so avoid assuming that its Easy Anti-Cheat or launch-specific steps will solve it. First complete the general checks above, especially file verification and the temporary overlay isolation test.

Also note whether the loading screen is genuinely frozen or still changing, whether sound continues, and whether the issue occurs on every load or only one mission/session. These observations can help support distinguish a launch failure from a later loading problem; they do not, by themselves, identify a cause.

The NVIDIA recommended-model string above follows the wording on Saber’s page; check a current official product listing if that model name is material to a purchase decision. Compare your actual parts and available SSD space against Saber’s published PC requirements. Saber says the game may run on a less powerful system, but it cannot support technical issues arising while playing below minimum requirements. An SSD is a stated requirement; that does not make buying one a general cure for crashes or black screens if your system already meets the requirement.
What to send support if the issue continues
Use Saber’s crash reporting guidance for persistent crashes, or the relevant launch troubleshooting page for failures before the menu. Include useful diagnostic details: your PC specifications, storefront, exact failure stage, whether sound continues, recent game or driver updates, and the checks you have already tried. These details help describe the problem; they are not presented as a mandatory list from Saber.
