The prediction grew out of rumor coverage and alleged clues, not a Valve announcement. Later reporting also failed to establish that the game had been announced or confirm a release schedule.
Why did people expect a November 2025 reveal?
An October 31, 2025 report by FandomWire attributed the trailer prediction to commentator Tyler McVicker, who reportedly said trailer work was happening. The article also pointed to Source 2 updates and backend changes as possible clues, while explicitly noting that Valve had made no official announcement, teaser, or confirmation. Those details were circumstantial reports, not proof that a finished game or trailer was ready. FandomWire’s October report

Speculation continued in November. PC Gamer reported on November 12 that supposed Steam-store signs and social-media hints had stirred interest, but concluded that the items being discussed were not Half-Life 3. PC Gamer’s report on the alleged clues
What happened after November?
On December 16, 2025, Ars Technica described the year as ending without official news of Half-Life 3. It also relayed gaming journalist Mike Straw’s claim that unnamed sources expected the game to launch alongside Valve hardware in Spring 2026. That was attributed hearsay about a possible future window, not a Valve schedule; Ars Technica noted that earlier timing information had proved unreliable and plans could change. A June 22, 2026 DSOGaming retrospective says the November announcement did not happen and that a predicted reveal alongside hardware was wrong. This is a later outlet’s account, rather than a direct statement from Valve, but it resolves the date-specific prediction: the promised November unveiling did not occur. No conclusion about the internal status of any unannounced Valve project follows from a missed reveal prediction. The reviewed coverage establishes that the November 2025 unveiling did not happen; it does not establish whether Valve is developing Half-Life 3. There is no directly relevant Valve statement in these reports confirming the November rumor or a release date.

Rank #2
- Amazing new graphics with pre-rendered cutscenes that look like they came from the movies
- More realistic physics - Objects have varied and appropriate mass, density and physical properties
- Incredibly advanced AI as enemies adapt, plan, improvise, and respond
- Hordes of new aliens and other enemies, plus a plethora of new guns and weapons
That distinction matters because Half-Life 3 speculation has repeatedly drawn on misunderstood clues and unsupported leaks. Valve’s Steam News archive documents earlier rumors and hoaxes; it is historical context, not current evidence about an unannounced project.
How to judge future Half-Life 3 claims
- Look for a Valve announcement. A public announcement from Valve is different from commentary, unnamed-source reporting, or fan interpretation.
- Check what the alleged clue actually establishes. Backend changes, store listings, and social-media hints may prompt speculation, but do not by themselves confirm a game or trailer.
- Keep predictions separate from outcomes. A reported launch window attributed to unnamed sources is not a confirmed schedule, especially when prior timing claims have proved unreliable.
