Riot’s account of Worlds 2022 also spotlights Ezreal and Draven for memorable moments in Deft’s quarterfinal series against EDG. Frequent picks and iconic match stories are related, but they are not the same thing.
Who is Deft?
Deft is professional League of Legends player Kim Hyuk-kyu. Riot’s career retrospective places his debut in spring 2013, notes his 2014 domestic title with Samsung Galaxy Blue, and recounts his Worlds 2022 championship with DRX. Those milestones provide context for a long career across multiple competitive eras; they do not make any single champion a permanent measure of his form.
Which champions does Deft play most?
Leaguepedia’s Deft statistics page displays a snapshot of 1,315 total games across 39 champions. Its three leaders by games played are Ezreal, Varus, and Kalista:
| Champion | Games | Wins | Losses | Win rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ezreal | 137 | 78 | 59 | 56.9% |
| Varus | 126 | 75 | 51 | 59.5% |
| Kalista | 105 | 69 | 36 | 65.7% |
These are the figures shown on Leaguepedia’s Deft statistics page, a community-maintained source rather than an official Riot record. Treat them as that page’s displayed snapshot, not as current, independently verified totals. The page does not provide a clear publication year for these figures.

Ezreal: the most-played champion in the snapshot
Ezreal leads the listed champions by career games in the snapshot, with 137. That makes him the clearest answer if “signature” means repeated professional use in these statistics. It does not establish that Ezreal is Deft’s strongest champion in every era or the one most associated with his best-known match moments.
Varus and Kalista: other recurring picks
Varus ranks second by games, while Kalista ranks third. Kalista has the highest win rate among these three in the displayed figures, but win rate alone cannot prove champion skill or signature status: the samples span different patches, seasons, and team contexts. The snapshot supports a comparison of Deft’s recorded results on these champions, not a head-to-head judgment about their relative strength.

Which champions are tied to Deft’s memorable Worlds moments?
Riot’s retrospective on Worlds 2022 recounts Deft’s Ezreal in the second quarterfinal game against EDG and his Draven in game three of that series. These are memorable tournament examples, not evidence that Draven belongs among his most-played champions. The distinction matters: the career-statistics snapshot identifies recurring picks, while Riot’s match account highlights particular moments in a high-stakes series.
Before that quarterfinal, analyst and commentator Marc Robert “Caedrel” Lamont described Deft’s history at Worlds: “Deft is such a historic and achieved player, but he’s never made it past the quarterfinals at Worlds.” That was the pre-series context; Deft later reached the final and won the tournament with DRX in 2022. After DRX defeated Gen.G in the semifinal, Riot’s account quotes Deft saying, “I think I managed to change those views throughout this tournament, and I’m proud of that.”

What does “signature” tell you—and what doesn’t it?
For Deft, the label is most useful when its meaning is made explicit. Ezreal, Varus, and Kalista stand out by games played in Leaguepedia’s displayed snapshot. Ezreal and Draven stand out in Riot’s telling of a specific Worlds quarterfinal series. Neither measure creates an official signature-champion ranking, and neither one by itself says which champion Deft would perform best on today.
Professional champion picks change with patches, tournament priorities, and balance decisions. Riot’s discussion of competitive champion diversity uses Worlds 2020 as historical context, not as a current tier list. A champion associated with Deft’s career or a famous match should not be read as a recommendation for the present-day pro meta.
