Newzoo’s 2026 forecasts point to a growing global games market and a substantial PC-and-console business, but market growth is not the same as attractive investment returns. Treat possible opportunities as hypotheses to investigate, then test each company’s exposure, execution and valuation.
What the market forecasts say
Newzoo forecast that the global games market would generate $213.9 billion in 2026, up 6.1% year over year. It also forecast 3.70 billion players, up 4.4%, and 1.65 billion spenders, up 4.7%. Those figures imply a forecast player-to-spender conversion rate of 44.6%. These are Newzoo’s 2026 forecasts, not finalized results or guarantees of future growth.

For PC and console, Newzoo projected a combined market of $103.7 billion by 2028. That points to a large addressable market, but it does not show which platforms, publishers or securities will capture the revenue—or whether their share prices already reflect expected growth.
Where a potential opportunity might be found
“Gaming” includes businesses with very different economics. A publisher depends on the performance and longevity of its games; a platform holder may benefit from an ecosystem of users and transactions; a hardware or technology supplier sells tools used across gaming and other markets. The market-level evidence below can help frame questions, but it cannot establish company-level prospects.
#1 Best Overall
| Area to investigate | What the available figures indicate | What they do not establish |
|---|---|---|
| PC and console games | Newzoo projected a $103.7 billion PC-and-console market by 2028. | Which platform or company will grow fastest, capture profits, or outperform in the market. |
| In-game spending on PC | For 2025, Newzoo reported microtransactions at 48% of PC revenue, or $20.6 billion. | Whether a particular game can retain players, sustain spending, or avoid relying too heavily on a small number of titles. |
| Premium PC games | For 2025, Newzoo reported premium game sales at 29% of PC revenue, or $12.5 billion. | Whether an individual release will sell well or whether a publisher can deliver successful releases consistently. |
| Mobile and regional markets | Newzoo’s global forecast includes the broad games market; its research offering covers forecasts by platform and region. | A comparable mobile or regional growth figure is not established by the figures cited here. |
| Hardware and enabling technology | NVIDIA’s fiscal 2026 announcement refers to its gaming display platform. | That reference alone does not establish how material gaming is to NVIDIA’s overall valuation or future prospects. |
The PC revenue mix suggests two distinct business models worth examining: ongoing in-game purchases and premium sales. Newzoo’s PC-and-console analysis also tracks free-to-play performance and playtime allocation. For an investor, those measures can prompt questions about engagement and monetization, but a category’s revenue share does not prove that its revenue is recurring, predictable or profitable for any specific company.
How to compare gaming investments
Start by identifying what the security actually gives you exposure to. A public-company revenue ranking can show which companies report game revenue; it is not a ranking of expected investment returns. Newzoo offers platform and regional forecasts as well as public game-company revenue rankings, which can support screening. They should be a starting point for company research, not a substitute for it.

- Specify the exposure. Determine whether the company is principally a game publisher, platform holder, hardware supplier or enabling-technology company. A large gaming market does not mean gaming drives every company’s results to the same degree.
- Match the market to the company. Compare the relevant platform and geography rather than relying on the global total. Growth and monetization can differ by platform and region.
- Examine the revenue model. Separate premium releases from free-to-play and in-game spending. Look at how much the business depends on individual titles and whether it can maintain engagement over time.
- Test execution and financial resilience. Review the company’s own results, release schedule, costs, balance sheet and ability to deliver. Market-level player counts and revenue forecasts do not answer these company-specific questions.
- Assess valuation against risks. A growing business can still be a poor investment at an excessive price or if expectations are hard to meet. The Newzoo figures cited here do not provide comparable company valuations, balance-sheet analysis or return forecasts.
What the evidence cannot tell you
The available figures do not identify a winning security or establish that any one gaming segment will outperform. They describe market size, forecasts and parts of the PC revenue mix—not share-price upside. The answer also depends on whether you mean public stocks, private investments or the broader industry, as well as your time horizon, geography and tolerance for risk.
