“Permanently suspended” means PlayStation has suspended an account without setting a fixed end date. PlayStation says it uses permanent suspensions for serious or repeated violations. The label describes how long a suspension lasts—not whether it applies to an account or an entire console. Check the suspension notice and My Support to identify what is restricted.
What “permanently suspended” means
PlayStation describes a permanent suspension as an action used “in cases of serious or repeated violations.” Unlike a temporary suspension, it has no stated fixed end period. A permanent suspension does not, by itself, tell you whether PlayStation restricted an account, communication features, or a console. Those actions have different effects.
What can be suspended?

How to check what PlayStation suspended
- Read the email sent to your account’s sign-in email address. PlayStation says it usually emails the reason and duration. Check your spam or junk folder if you cannot find it in your inbox. PlayStation Support
- Check My Support. Look for the account status and suspension details. A sign-in attempt may also show an error code; a communication suspension may produce an error when you try to use social features. PlayStation Support
- Identify the target named in the notice. Confirm whether it refers to your account, communication features, or console before deciding what the restriction affects.
- Contact PlayStation Support if the notice is missing or unclear. PlayStation recommends contacting support when you have not received a notification or need help understanding the suspension. PlayStation Support
Why PlayStation may suspend an account
PlayStation’s general policy says permanent suspensions are used for serious or repeated violations of its Terms of Service and Code of Conduct. Its behavior guidance identifies cheating, threats of harm or violence, illegal activity, and inappropriate, offensive, or threatening content as conduct that may violate its rules. PlayStation Safety says its global team of human moderators reviews misconduct reports and applies an action when it determines a player broke the rules. Can you appeal a permanent suspension?
PlayStation says permanent account suspensions may be appealed in certain cases. Follow the appeal route linked from its suspension page if your case is eligible. The general policy does not say every permanent suspension qualifies, and submitting an appeal does not guarantee that PlayStation will restore access.
What happens to subscriptions and purchased content?
According to PlayStation’s US suspension guidance, an account suspension can prevent access to some products and services even if they have been paid for. If you cannot access a suspended account, you cannot change its payment methods or cancel a subscription through account settings. PlayStation says it will not attempt a subscription payment while the account suspension is in place; the subscription and its associated benefits may lapse. For a console suspension, the US terms distinguish online services and PlayStation Store-purchased content from disc games that can run without connecting to those services. That distinction concerns a console suspension under the cited US terms; it should not be assumed to describe every account suspension or the rules in every region. PlayStation says it cannot lift a suspension on a second-hand console. If you bought a suspended device, contact the seller rather than treating another account or purchase as a way to reverse the restriction. PlayStation Support
