The PS4 Pro is roughly comparable to an AMD Radeon RX 570 or an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB in practical gaming performance. The Radeon RX 580 is the closest conventional desktop-family comparison because it shares a similar 36-compute-unit, 2,304-stream-processor layout, but it is generally somewhat faster. There is no exact PC equivalent: the PS4 Pro uses a custom AMD GPU integrated into a console SoC.

The short answer

Comparison goal Best answer
Rough gaming equivalent Radeon RX 570 or GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Closest AMD desktop-family comparison Radeon RX 580
Modern replacement Radeon RX 6600, but it is an upgrade
Exact equivalent None

For a used PC intended to deliver a broadly similar 1080p experience, an RX 570 4GB or GTX 1060 6GB is the most sensible target. An RX 580 8GB is closer in broad hardware layout, while an RX 6600 is the better choice if you are buying a newer card rather than matching the console.

What GPU does the PS4 Pro use?

Sony describes the PS4 Pro as having a custom AMD Radeon-based graphics engine rated at 4.20 TFLOPS, with 8GB of shared GDDR5 system memory. Sony also says the design incorporates features derived from AMD’s Polaris architecture alongside custom console hardware. See Sony’s PS4 Pro specifications and official PS4 Pro FAQ.

Technical documentation commonly identifies the GPU as having 36 compute units and 2,304 stream processors running at approximately 911MHz. These figures are useful for comparison, but they are not the same as Sony officially saying that the console contains an RX 570 or RX 580. The PS4 Pro’s GPU is a custom integrated design, not a removable retail graphics card.

Why there is no exact PC equivalent

A teraflop comparison provides only a rough starting point. TFLOPS measure theoretical floating-point throughput, not complete game performance. Results also depend on architecture, clock speed, memory bandwidth, cache and render-output configuration, drivers, APIs, the CPU, and the game itself.

The console has further advantages that do not transfer directly to a PC. Developers target one fixed hardware configuration and can optimize memory use, shaders, rendering paths, and frame-rate behavior accordingly. A PC port may need a faster CPU, more system memory, or different settings to deliver a similar result.

The PS4 Pro also shares its 8GB GDDR5 memory between the GPU, CPU, and operating system. A desktop card instead has a separate VRAM pool, and its capacity cannot be compared directly with the console’s total system memory.

The closest AMD comparisons

Radeon RX 570: the practical lower-end match

The RX 570 is often the most reasonable AMD answer when “equivalent” means similar real-world gaming performance. AMD’s common RX 570 configuration has 32 compute units and 2,048 stream processors, with many cards carrying 4GB of GDDR5. It was positioned as a 1080p gaming card.

An RX 570 can therefore be a useful PS4 Pro performance target, particularly for 1080p PC gaming. Its 4GB VRAM limit can become a problem in some newer or texture-heavy PC games, even when its raw GPU performance is adequate.

Radeon RX 580: the closest desktop-family comparison

The RX 580 has 36 compute units and 2,304 stream processors, matching the commonly documented broad layout of the PS4 Pro GPU. AMD lists RX 580 models with up to 6.2 TFLOPS, 8GB of GDDR5, a 256-bit memory interface, and up to 256GB/s of memory bandwidth. Its desktop clocks are also higher than the PS4 Pro’s commonly documented approximately 911MHz GPU clock. AMD’s specifications are available on its RX 580 support page.

  • Support: DirectX 12, Shader Model 5.0, OpenGL 4.6/4.5, 4K Video Decode

That makes the RX 580 the strongest architectural comparison, but not an exact match. It is generally somewhat faster on paper and can be faster in games. The accurate description is that the PS4 Pro resembles a custom, downclocked Polaris-era Radeon design; it does not contain an RX 580.

The RX 480 is another relevant comparison because it belongs to the same Polaris-era family and can perform close to an RX 580 depending on its clock speed and model.

The closest NVIDIA comparison: GTX 1060 6GB

The GeForce GTX 1060 6GB is the most useful NVIDIA-side comparison. NVIDIA lists it with 1,280 CUDA cores, 6GB of GDDR5, 192GB/s of memory bandwidth, and a 1,506MHz base clock with a 1,708MHz boost clock. NVIDIA originally positioned it as a mid-range card with roughly GTX 980-class performance. Its official specifications are in NVIDIA’s GTX 1060 announcement.

The GTX 1060 is not an architectural equivalent: CUDA cores and AMD stream processors are different designs and cannot be compared one-for-one. It is useful because its real-world gaming performance is broadly in the PS4 Pro’s class in many 1080p games.

Prefer the 6GB model over the 3GB version when prices are similar. VRAM capacity does not automatically make a GPU faster, but 3GB can create texture and settings limitations in games where the 6GB card remains comfortable.

Does PS4 Pro performance mean native 4K PC gaming?

No. The PS4 Pro supports 4K and HDR output, but the image-generation method varies by game. Some titles use native 2160p in selected modes; others use checkerboard rendering, temporal reconstruction, dynamic resolution, or upscaling. Sony describes these different approaches in its PS4 Pro FAQ.

  • Chipset: AMD RX 7600
  • Memory: 8GB GDDR6
  • XFX SWFT Dual Fan Cooling Solution
  • Boost Clock: Up to 2655 MHz

That means a PS4 Pro’s 4K output should not be interpreted as proof that it can render every game at native 3840×2160. For a PC comparison, 1080p is usually the fairest target. Depending on the game and settings, the equivalent card class may also handle 1440p, but neither the RX 570 nor GTX 1060 should be treated as a universal native-4K solution.

Frame rate is similarly game-dependent. Demanding enhanced titles commonly target 30fps, while some games offer 60fps modes or improved frame-rate settings. A PC GPU in the same broad class does not guarantee identical frame rates, image quality, or presets.

Which card should you buy?

If you want the cheapest used match

Look for a tested RX 570 4GB or GTX 1060 6GB. They are old cards, so condition matters more than a theoretical specification match. Check the exact model, cooler, power connectors, physical dimensions, seller return policy, and whether the card passes a sustained gaming or stress test.

If you want the closest AMD hardware-family match

Choose an RX 580 8GB if its condition and price make sense. It has more VRAM and a layout closer to the commonly documented PS4 Pro GPU, but it is also older and typically less power-efficient. Do not buy it expecting exact console performance.

If you want a modern card

The Radeon RX 6600 is a more sensible long-term purchase than any of these Polaris- or Pascal-era cards. AMD lists it with 8GB of GDDR6, up to 8.93 TFLOPS, hardware ray accelerators, AV1 decoding, and 132W typical board power. See AMD’s RX 6600 product page.

However, the RX 6600 is clearly faster than the PS4 Pro target. Treat it as a modern upgrade with better efficiency, features, and expected support—not as a like-for-like equivalent.

What the rest of the PC needs

A matching GPU does not guarantee matching console performance. A sensible PS4 Pro-class PC should also have:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • A reasonably modern four- to six-core CPU.
  • At least 16GB of system RAM.
  • An SSD for game loading and asset streaming.
  • A power supply suitable for the exact graphics card.
  • Current drivers and a game-specific settings configuration.

CPU-heavy open-world games, simulation titles, strategy games, and poorly optimized ports may run worse on a PC with the “right” GPU if the processor is weak. Console optimization is not transferable, and PC versions can demand more CPU or memory than the fixed PS4 Pro platform.

Used-card warnings

RX 570, RX 580, and GTX 1060 cards are now old enough that condition should be a major buying criterion. Used examples may have mining wear, noisy or failing fans, degraded thermal paste, memory-temperature problems, missing accessories, or unusually high power draw. Test the card under load, verify that all outputs work, and avoid a purchase without a reasonable return option.

Do not rely on a historical launch price as a current buying guide. AMD and NVIDIA’s published launch prices describe the cards when they were new, not their street value in 2026.

Final verdict

The best single practical answer is Radeon RX 570 or GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. The RX 580 is the closest conventional desktop-family comparison and is usually a little faster. If you are buying new hardware for continued PC use, choose an RX 6600-class card when the price and availability make sense—but understand that it is an upgrade, not an exact PS4 Pro equivalent.
