A Rockstar ban immediately blocks access to Rockstar Online Services and has no expiration date. A suspension also blocks online access immediately, but Rockstar shows its end date on the Alert screen. Either action may affect characters and online assets; Rockstar’s current policy says they may be reset.
What a suspension or ban does
| Action | Online access | Duration | Possible effect on characters and assets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suspension | Access to the affected online service is blocked while the suspension is active. | Rockstar displays an expiration date on the Alert screen. Online access returns after that date passes. | Characters and associated progress, property, and inventory may be reset. |
| Ban | Access to Rockstar Online Services becomes inaccessible. | No expiration date. | Characters, progress, property, inventory, and virtual currency may be reset. |
These effects come from Rockstar Games Customer Support’s Online Suspension and Ban Policy, last updated February 24, 2026. The policy says assets “may be reset,” not that every suspension or ban will necessarily reset them. Rockstar’s older account-impact article, last updated December 10, 2024, uses stronger reset wording for suspended titles; the newer policy is the more current guide to whether a reset is certain.
Does a ban affect every Rockstar game?
Not necessarily. Rockstar describes enforcement that can apply to the affected title, and says some serious violations may lead to a suspension or ban from all titles. Its examples of conduct associated with possible all-title action include cheat development, malicious attacks against Rockstar titles or services, and other significant Terms of Service violations. The scope depends on the enforcement action and circumstances; do not assume that an action in one game automatically blocks every Rockstar title. See Rockstar’s article about access to other Rockstar titles and its account-impact guidance.
What conduct does Rockstar identify as a possible violation?
Rockstar’s support pages give examples, not a complete checklist for diagnosing an individual case. They include:
