It happens at the final choice after you defeat King Dice in the last casino sequence. If you answer Yes when the Devil asks Cuphead and Mugman to hand over the soul contracts and join his team, he claims the brothers, they are shown transformed into demonic-looking versions of themselves, and the credits roll.
How the bad ending is triggered
After King Dice falls, the Devil steps in and asks the brothers to surrender the soul contracts they have been collecting and to work for him. The game then presents a yes-or-no decision. Choosing Yes leads to the bad ending. Choosing No does not end the story; it starts a different fight.

What the bad ending shows
When you accept the offer, the Devil announces, “You’re mine now! And we’re gonna have a hell of a time down here…!!” The brothers are then shown transformed into demonic-looking versions of themselves while the Devil smiles. There is no further playable section. The scene ends and the credits begin.
Audio and presentation after the cutscene
- Credits music: the credits use a piano remix of the Inkwell Hell theme.
- Title screen: after you return to the title screen, “Don’t Deal With the Devil” plays in reverse.
- Ms. Chalice: community reference material notes that Ms. Chalice appears in the bad-ending scene when she is equipped. This is a DLC-related visual detail, so it may not appear in every playthrough.
Bad ending versus good ending
The two outcomes branch from the same final question. The table below shows where they diverge.
#1 Best Overall
- Experience the classic run and gun action with a pal in 2-player local co-op
- Includes the “Delicious Last Course” expansion filled with new bosses and brand-new character Ms. Chalice
- Includes exclusive “Cuphead Funnies” comic collector cards & vintage-inspired “Cuphead Club Membership”, and a hand-drawn reversible coversheet
| Step | Choose Yes (bad ending) | Choose No (good ending) |
|---|---|---|
| Devil’s response | Claims Cuphead and Mugman as his minions | Becomes furious and attacks |
| Gameplay after the choice | None; the scene moves straight to the ending | A boss fight against the Devil |
| Result | The brothers are transformed into demonic versions of themselves | Defeating the Devil lets the brothers destroy the contracts and free the debtors |
| Ending that follows | Bad ending, then credits | Celebratory good ending |
Unlocking the achievement
Community reference material lists the achievement “Selling Out” for accepting the Devil’s offer and getting the bad ending. Because the ending and achievement details come from community-maintained Cuphead Wiki material rather than an official guide, confirm the achievement name in your own game’s achievement list before relying on it.
What the official site does and does not confirm
The official Cuphead website describes the premise: Cuphead and Mugman gamble away their souls at the Devil’s casino, then travel to collect soul contracts to pay off the debt. It also describes the game’s hand-drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings. It does not document the final choice or the two endings, so the branch described above is based on community reference material and the in-game dialogue.
Rank #2
- Experience the classic run and gun action with a pal in 2-player local co-op

Summary of what to expect
- The trigger is the final dialogue choice after King Dice: select Yes to get the bad ending.
- The outcome is a cutscene in which the Devil claims the brothers, followed by credits.
- Select No and defeat the Devil to reach the good ending.
If you want the bad ending for achievement purposes, the choice is quick to make, but it cannot be undone within that playthrough, so save the decision for when you have finished the rest of the game.
