Offline modes are expected to remain playable if the installed game still launches and the platform permits access, but EA has not promised that every offline feature will survive every retirement scenario.
EA’s College Football 26 disclaimer says online features may be removed 30 days after EA posts a notice on its service-updates page. No title-specific shutdown date for College Football 25 or College Football 26 is documented in the available official material, so any exact date would be speculation.

What a server shutdown actually removes
A server retirement ends the EA-operated services that authenticate accounts, store online data, match players, synchronize online leagues and deliver connected features. It does not automatically prove that the entire game becomes unusable. EA’s general shutdown guidance says that, in some cases, a game may still be played offline after online services are no longer supported.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe practical result depends on the mode. A feature that only reads local game data can continue, while one that needs an EA account, a remote inventory, matchmaking, a download service or a shared leaderboard cannot function once that service is retired.

No confirmed College Football shutdown date
The current official information does not announce a specific retirement date for either College Football 25 or College Football 26. EA says it may remove online features 30 days after publishing a service-update notice, but that policy is a notice window, not a prediction of when this series will be retired. EA also says older services can become infeasible when they typically account for fewer than 1% of peak online players across all EA titles; that figure is a general threshold, not a College Football forecast.
Which modes should keep working?
The table separates modes that are designed to run locally from those that depend on EA’s online infrastructure. “Expected” is deliberate: EA has not issued a survival guarantee for every offline function after a specific College Football retirement.
| Feature | EA online service required? | Expected result after retirement |
|---|---|---|
| Offline Dynasty | No ongoing online play documented | Expected to remain available, subject to the game launching and the platform allowing access |
| Online Dynasty | Yes | Online participation, invitations, cross-play and online-data access end when the supporting service is retired |
| Play Now | Generally no | Expected to remain available; Team Builder imports must already be completed |
| Private Dynasty with imported Team Builder content | Import requires internet and an EA account; play can be offline | Previously imported content may remain usable offline |
| Ultimate Team | Yes, for account, inventory, marketplace and online play | Service-dependent features become unavailable |
| Road to the College Football Playoff and other online matchmaking | Yes | Online competition and progression services end |
| Cross-play and global leaderboards | Yes | Disabled when the supporting online services are retired |
Will offline Dynasty work?
Offline Dynasty is the clearest long-term option for a solo player. EA’s mode documentation treats it separately from Online Dynasty. If you play Dynasty offline, EA says you cannot invite other players to the Dynasty, access your online data or use cross-play.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

That means an offline Dynasty should not be treated as a dormant copy of an online league. It is a local mode with different capabilities. It can preserve the single-player recruiting, scheduling and season-management experience that the installed game supports, but it cannot reconnect to an online league or retrieve information stored by EA.

Start a separate offline save before retirement
If you want a Dynasty that can outlast the servers, create it as an offline Dynasty while the game is still fully operational. Keep it separate from an Online Dynasty rather than assuming an online league can later be converted into a complete local copy. The documented limitations mean that invitations, online data and cross-play are not available in the offline mode.
Platform behavior still matters. A game update, account check or licensing change could affect whether the title launches, so “offline” is not an absolute guarantee that every future boot will work. EA’s published guidance establishes the possibility of offline play, not a lifetime promise for every console generation or edition.
What happens to an Online Dynasty save?
Online Dynasty relies on EA’s service to host participation, synchronize the league and provide online data. When that service is retired, players should expect online participation to end. Invites, shared progression, cross-play and access to data held online will no longer be available.

Ultimate Team, matchmaking and leaderboards
Ultimate Team
Ultimate Team needs EA services for account authentication, inventory, marketplace functions and online play. Once those services are removed, the mode’s service-dependent features become unavailable. Items, currency, auction-house activity and progression should be regarded as tied to the active service rather than as a permanent offline entitlement.
Online competition
Road to the College Football Playoff and other online matchmaking modes need a live service to find opponents and record competition or progression. A shutdown therefore ends online competition, even if the base game and offline Play Now mode continue to launch.
Cross-play and leaderboards
Cross-play is not a local setting that can operate without servers. EA lists a copy of College Football 26, all relevant game updates, an EA account, an internet connection and a platform account on the chosen platform as requirements. Removing the supporting online service removes the function. Global leaderboards likewise depend on a shared online database and will be disabled.
Team Builder: import it before the service disappears
Team Builder is easy to misunderstand because imported teams can be used in offline modes while the Team Builder service itself is online. EA states that Team Builder content can be used in offline Play Now and private Dynasty modes, while also requiring an internet connection and an EA account.

- Connect the game to the internet and sign in to the required EA account.
- Complete the Team Builder creation and import process while the service is operating.
- Launch Play Now or a private Dynasty and confirm that the imported team appears in the game.
- Keep the imported content in the installed game; do not rely on being able to download it again after retirement.
Previously imported content may remain usable offline, but the download or import service itself should be considered unavailable once EA retires it. If you have several custom teams, import each one before a formal notice period expires rather than waiting for the final day.
Does owning the disc keep the game playable?
A physical copy can help retain access to offline-capable modes, but it cannot restore retired EA services. The disc does not contain the matchmaking servers, online Dynasty data, Ultimate Team inventory service, cross-play infrastructure or global leaderboards.
Disc ownership is useful only if the installed title still launches and the platform permits access. A first-party update, account requirement or platform licensing rule can affect that behavior. The safest interpretation is: a disc may preserve a path to offline Play Now or offline Dynasty; it is not a preservation method for online features.
What to do before EA posts a retirement notice
- Check the official status pages. Use EA’s server-status page to distinguish a temporary outage from a retirement. Watch the service-updates page for a formal notice and its effective date.
- Create an offline Dynasty. Start a new offline league if long-term solo access matters. Do not depend on an Online Dynasty remaining accessible.
- Import Team Builder teams. Finish every download or import you care about while internet and account access are available.
- Play-test offline access. With the console temporarily disconnected, launch the game and open Offline Dynasty and Play Now. This reveals whether your installation and platform permit the modes without a live connection.
- Record what is service-dependent. Treat Ultimate Team inventories, auction-house items, online leagues, cross-play and leaderboards as temporary online data, not as offline backups.
- Install required updates while they are available. EA lists relevant game updates among the requirements for College Football 26 cross-play. Keeping the installed title current can prevent an avoidable launch or compatibility problem before services change.
How to tell an outage from a permanent shutdown
Temporary outage symptoms
A temporary outage can produce sign-in errors, matchmaking failures or missing online data while EA works on the service. Check EA’s server-status page and your platform’s network status before changing saves or reinstalling the game.

Retirement symptoms
A formal service-update notice, a stated removal date and a permanent loss of online functions indicate retirement. If Offline Dynasty and Play Now still launch but Online Dynasty, Ultimate Team or matchmaking do not, that pattern is consistent with the online services being unavailable rather than with every mode being removed.
What not to expect
- Reinstalling from a disc cannot recreate EA’s servers.
- Changing internet settings cannot restore a retired marketplace, leaderboard or online league.
- An offline Dynasty cannot invite players, access online data or use cross-play.
- Team Builder cannot be imported after its service is no longer operating.
How long is the notice period?
The College Football 26 disclaimer says EA may remove online features 30 days after it posts a notice on the service-updates page. The wording gives EA permission to act after that period; it does not say that every title receives exactly 30 days, nor does it announce a College Football shutdown date today. Readers should use the posted notice, rather than rumors or a generic anniversary, as the controlling timeline.
What “playable after shutdown” means in practice
For a player who only wants local seasons, the likely survivor is the installed game’s offline content: Offline Dynasty and Play Now, including private Dynasty play with Team Builder content that was imported earlier. For a player whose experience is built around online leagues, Ultimate Team, cross-play, matchmaking or shared rankings, the central features end with the service.
That split is why two owners can experience the same retirement differently. One may continue a local Dynasty for years, while another loses access to the mode they bought the game to play. The decisive question is not whether you own a disc or digital license; it is whether the specific activity requires an active EA service.
