Activity Feed is Xbox’s social stream for gaming activity. In the Xbox app for Windows 10, it was designed to show recent achievements, screenshots, game clips, text updates and other events, while letting you react to or comment on friends’ posts. You can publish a Windows 10 screenshot or clip by capturing it with Game Bar, opening the capture in the Xbox app and using the available share or post control. The exact tabs and labels depend on the app build and account, because Microsoft’s best-documented Windows 10 instructions describe a January 2015 technical-preview version rather than every later release.
Activity Feed is not the same thing as Windows Activity history, Xbox notifications or the local Captures folder. It is an Xbox social surface whose audience is governed by your Xbox privacy settings.

What is Activity Feed in the Xbox app on Windows 10?
Activity Feed is the Xbox network’s timeline for sharing gaming moments with friends. It collects events such as achievement unlocks, screenshots, game clips and other game-related activity. Microsoft describes the purpose this way: “When gamers play your title, their Achievement unlocks, clips, screenshots and other activities will become a part of an activity feed that is shared with their friends so they can all see the wonders your game has to offer.”
The Windows 10 Xbox app feature summary published on January 23, 2015 described a preview-build feed where users could view recent events and clips, post text, and like or comment on friends’ achievements and clips. Treat that description as the historical behavior of the Windows 10 preview. Microsoft has changed the Xbox app, account services and terminology over time, so a current installation may place the feed elsewhere, combine it with profile activity or expose fewer controls.

The feed is an online social view. A file sitting in your Windows Captures folder is private until you share it, and a Windows notification about an achievement is not itself an Activity Feed post.
What can you share to Xbox Activity Feed?
The core post types are achievements, screenshots, game clips and text or other gaming activity. What appears as an available option depends on the item, your account and the app surface currently enabled.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Achievements: Unlocks can be posted as a record of progress. An achievement is associated with the Xbox account that earned it, not merely with the PC file system.
- Screenshots: Still images captured during a game can be selected from the Xbox capture area and shared to the feed.
- Game clips: Short recordings made with Game Bar or another Xbox capture source can be posted after they finish processing.
- Text updates: The 2015 Windows 10 feature summary documented text posts in the feed, although a later app build may not show the same composer.
- Reactions and comments: The preview documentation described liking and commenting on friends’ recent achievements and clips. Availability can vary with the account, region and current service.
Microsoft later documented “Stories” in the Xbox mobile app as a way to share clips, screenshots and achievements, add captions, and reply or react. Those details explain a later Xbox sharing model, but they should not be treated as guaranteed Windows 10 controls. On PC, look for the controls the installed app actually presents.
How do I capture a screenshot or clip on Windows 10?
Use Xbox Game Bar as the capture source, then publish the finished item from the Xbox app. Microsoft’s Windows 10 guidance documented opening Game Bar with an Xbox controller or the Windows + G keyboard shortcut.

- Start the game. Keep the game in the foreground so Game Bar can attach to it.
- Open Game Bar. Press
Windows + G, or press the Xbox button on a compatible controller. If Windows asks whether the open program is a game, confirm it. - Capture the moment. Use the screenshot control for a still image. Use the recording control to start and stop a clip, or use the capture shortcuts shown by Game Bar. Recording support and shortcut behavior can differ by Windows configuration.
- Wait for processing. A clip may need to finish saving before sharing controls appear. If the item is not listed immediately, close and reopen the capture panel rather than repeatedly starting new recordings.
- Open the Xbox app’s capture area. Find the screenshot or clip in the app’s captures section. The label and location have changed between app versions, so use the capture thumbnail or library entry rather than relying on a historical menu name.
- Choose Share or Post. Select the item, choose the available Xbox social or activity-feed destination, add text if the current composer permits it, and confirm publication.
- Check the result. Open your profile or activity view and verify that the post appears. A successful local save does not prove that the item was published online.
If you use a controller, Microsoft’s Game Bar documentation specifically supports controller-based opening of the bar on Windows 10. A controller is optional; the keyboard shortcut provides the same entry point when the game and Windows settings permit it.
How do I post an achievement, screenshot or clip from the Xbox app?
The exact button text is version-dependent, but the workflow remains selection, audience, and confirmation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Open the Xbox app and sign in to the account that owns the capture or achievement.
- Open your captures, profile activity or the feed composer, depending on which navigation your build provides.
- Select the screenshot or clip, or select the achievement you want to announce.
- Review any caption, text or audience options shown by the composer.
- Choose the Xbox activity-feed or social-sharing destination and submit the post.
- Return to your profile activity to confirm publication and to remove or edit the item if those controls are offered.
An achievement may be available to share without a newly created media file. A screenshot or clip, by contrast, must first exist in the capture library and may fail to publish if it is still uploading, damaged or larger than the service accepts.
Who can see my Xbox Activity Feed?
Your audience is controlled by Xbox privacy settings, not by the fact that a file was captured on your PC. Microsoft’s privacy statement identifies achievements, shared content and social activity as Xbox data and says users can adjust settings to limit or block what is shared publicly or with friends.

Before posting, open the Xbox privacy and online-safety settings for the account you are using. Check the audience for activity sharing, shared captures, profile information and communication. Depending on the setting, a post may be visible to everyone, limited to friends, or hidden from other users. Child and family accounts can have additional restrictions set by a family organizer.
- Review before publishing: The composer’s audience indicator, when present, is the final check before submission.
- Consider the image itself: A screenshot can reveal usernames, chat messages, invitations, location clues or personal notifications even when your account is private.
- Remember existing posts: Changing privacy settings can affect future visibility, but it may not erase copies, comments or notifications already seen by other people.
- Use the correct account: A Windows profile and an Xbox account can be different. Verify the signed-in gamertag before posting.
What is the difference between Activity Feed, Game Bar and Windows Activity history?
These features are related to gaming on Windows but serve different purposes.
| Feature | What it does | Where the data lives | Who normally sees it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Activity Feed | Displays and shares achievements, screenshots, clips, text and social interactions. | Xbox account and online social service. | Your configured Xbox audience, such as friends or the public. |
| Xbox Game Bar | Opens capture, recording, performance and gaming widgets while a game runs. | Windows session and Xbox capture services. | You, until you share a capture. |
| Windows Captures folder or capture library | Stores screenshots and clips created on the PC. | Local Windows storage, with cloud behavior depending on the app and service. | People who can access the PC or files. |
| Windows Activity history | Tracks supported app and document activity for Windows features. | Windows account and related Microsoft services. | Controlled by Windows privacy settings; it is not an Xbox social feed. |
| Xbox notifications | Alerts you to messages, invitations, achievements and other events. | Notification system and Xbox account. | Shown to the signed-in user unless a device or account is shared. |
How do the different ways of publishing a gaming moment compare?
You can create the moment on a Windows PC, an Xbox console or a mobile app. The resulting social surface is not necessarily identical.
| Capture source | Typical media | Editing and posting considerations | Audience controls |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows 10 Game Bar | Screenshots and game clips. | Capture first, then select the item in the Xbox app or capture area. Menu names vary by build. | Xbox privacy settings and any audience selector shown at posting time. |
| Xbox console | Screenshots, clips and achievements. | Console capture tools may expose sharing options that do not appear in the Windows 10 app. | Xbox account privacy settings. |
| Xbox mobile app | Clips, screenshots and achievements, including the Stories experience documented by Microsoft in 2022. | Stories can include captions and replies in the documented mobile flow; do not assume those controls exist on Windows 10. | Xbox account privacy settings and mobile composer controls. |
Why is Activity Feed missing or different in my Xbox app?
A missing tab does not necessarily mean your captures are gone. The Windows 10 app has had multiple layouts, and Microsoft’s clearest feature summary describes a 2015 preview build. Work through these checks in order.

The app has a different layout
Look under your profile, social, community, captures or activity areas rather than searching only for a tab named Activity Feed. Microsoft has moved social and capture functions between releases. Sign out and back in after an app update so the account services and interface are refreshed.
The capture is saved but not shareable
Open the local capture first. If it will not play or open, the problem is with the file or recording rather than the feed. If it plays locally, wait for upload or processing, then retry from the capture library. A temporary network interruption can leave a file saved on the PC without a completed online post.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →You cannot see a friend’s activity
That person may have restricted activity visibility, removed the post, blocked your account or not shared anything recently. Your own privacy settings do not override another user’s audience choice.
Posting controls are disabled
Check that the correct Xbox account is signed in, that family or age restrictions do not block sharing, and that the account has network access to Xbox services. Privacy settings that block shared content can remove or limit the composer.

The feed works on mobile but not Windows 10
Mobile Stories and Windows 10 Activity Feed are not guaranteed to expose the same features. Use the Windows app’s available controls for ordinary posts, and do not expect a mobile-only caption, reply or Stories button to appear on PC.
What should I check before publishing a clip?
- Confirm the clip or screenshot shows the intended moment and contains no private chat or desktop notifications.
- Verify the gamertag and Xbox account displayed by the app.
- Check the audience in Xbox privacy settings and in the posting dialog, if an audience selector is shown.
- Wait until a clip finishes saving or uploading.
- Use a concise caption that explains the achievement or context without revealing personal information.
- After posting, open your profile activity to confirm that the item is visible to the intended audience.
Because Microsoft’s Windows 10 documentation is historical, treat every menu name as a guide to the workflow, not a guarantee of the current label. The durable sequence is capture, locate, select, review privacy, post and verify.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Xbox Activity Feed without an Xbox console?
Yes. A Windows 10 PC can create screenshots and clips with Game Bar and share them through the Xbox account services. You still need to be signed in to an Xbox account, and the available social controls depend on the installed app and account settings.
Where are Game Bar screenshots and clips saved on Windows 10?
They are first stored in Windows’ capture location and exposed through the capture library. The exact folder path can be changed in Windows settings, so use Game Bar’s gallery or the Xbox app’s capture area rather than assuming one fixed path.
Why did my Activity Feed post disappear after I changed privacy settings?
Changing the audience can hide an item from people who previously could see it, and service or account changes can alter how older activity is displayed. Check the post from your own profile while signed in, then review both the post controls and account privacy settings.
Do Xbox Activity Feed posts automatically share to other social networks?
No. An Xbox activity post remains within Xbox services unless you explicitly use a separate export or sharing option. Posting it in the Xbox feed does not by itself publish it to a third-party network.
