adskuninstallhelper.exe is an Autodesk uninstall helper, not a Windows system component. Autodesk places it in product-specific folders below C:ProgramDataAutodeskUninstallers for removing updates and products installed through its newer ODIS installation service. A copy in that location with a valid Autodesk digital signature is consistent with a legitimate installation. What does the helper actually do?
Its job is to launch the uninstall process associated with the Autodesk item whose folder contains it. Autodesk specifically describes using it to remove updates installed by the newer ODIS experience. Autodesk also documents calling the helper from an SCCM uninstall script for managed Desktop Connector deployments.
It is therefore an Autodesk-specific uninstaller component. It is not a Windows component, a graphics driver, or a general-purpose repair program. Do not assume that deleting the file will repair Windows or remove every Autodesk application.

Is adskuninstallhelper.exe safe?

Under that directory, Autodesk creates product-specific or update-specific folders. The exact subfolder name depends on the item installed, so do not assume that every Autodesk program uses one shared copy. Open the folder that corresponds to the update or product you want to remove, then run its helper with administrator permission when Windows requests it.
Autodesk says products from 2022 onward use the newer installation experience and may not appear in the legacy Autodesk Uninstall Tool. For those products, use Windows uninstall controls or the helper in the relevant Autodesk uninstaller folder.
How do I fix an adskuninstallhelper.exe uninstall error?
Work through these steps in order. They keep the operation limited to the affected Autodesk item before you consider a broad cleanup.

1. Identify the Autodesk item first
- On Windows 10 or Windows 11, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for the Autodesk product or update you want to remove.
- If it is not listed there, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and check the installed-program list.
Knowing the exact product matters because each helper folder is tied to a particular Autodesk installation or update. Removing a different entry can leave the original problem untouched.
2. Run the matching helper from Autodesk’s folder
- Enter
C:ProgramDataAutodeskUninstallersin File Explorer. - Open the subfolder that matches the product or update identified in the previous step.
- Right-click
AdskUninstallHelper.exeand choose Run as administrator. - Follow the Autodesk uninstall prompts and wait for them to finish before restarting or deleting anything.
Administrator rights are important because uninstallers may need to change protected program files, services, and system configuration. If Windows displays a User Account Control prompt, confirm only after verifying the path and signature.
3. Use Windows uninstall controls when the helper is unavailable
For Autodesk products, especially those installed from 2022 onward, start with Settings > Apps > Installed apps or the Control Panel program list. Select the Autodesk entry and choose Uninstall. This is the normal fallback when the helper folder is missing, the shortcut is broken, or the product was registered through Windows rather than the legacy Autodesk tool.
4. Run Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter

5. Handle managed Desktop Connector installations through SCCM
On a personally managed PC, you normally launch the helper interactively. In an organization using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Autodesk documents adding AdskUninstallHelper.exe to the Desktop Connector uninstall script. Use the helper from the Autodesk uninstaller directory associated with that deployment, and test the script with the same account and permissions used by the deployment system.
6. Use clean uninstall only for a complete Autodesk reset
Autodesk’s clean-uninstall procedure is broader than removing one product or update. It removes all Autodesk programs and can also remove residual files, registry keys, and licensing information. Before starting, back up project files, templates, custom settings, license details, and any data stored in Autodesk-related folders.
Choose this route only when every Autodesk product should be removed or a documented clean reset is specifically required. It is not the appropriate first response to a single failed update removal, and it can create extra work if you still need another Autodesk application on the computer.
7. Scan instead of launching an unexpected executable
If the error involves a copy outside C:ProgramDataAutodeskUninstallers, stop the uninstall attempt and scan that copy with Windows Security. Do not disable security software merely to make an unsigned or oddly located file run. If malware is suspected, follow Microsoft’s security guidance and remove the questionable file only after you have preserved any information needed for investigation.

An error message does not by itself prove that the executable is malicious. The failure can be related to the installation record, the selected product folder, permissions, or the state of the Autodesk installation.
- Wrong helper folder: You launched a helper for a different update or product than the one selected in Windows.
- Missing or damaged uninstall registration: Windows lists an entry whose original uninstaller files are no longer present.
- Insufficient privileges: The process was started without administrator approval and could not change protected installation data.
- Newer Autodesk installation model: A 2022-or-newer product may not be represented in the legacy Autodesk Uninstall Tool.
- Managed deployment mismatch: An SCCM script may be calling a path that does not match the Desktop Connector version installed on a particular device.
- Unverified executable: A copy outside Autodesk’s documented directory may be unrelated to the installed product and should be treated as a security issue rather than an ordinary uninstall failure.

Can I delete adskuninstallhelper.exe?

Use Settings, Control Panel, or the matching Autodesk helper to uninstall the intended item. If every Autodesk product is meant to be removed, follow Autodesk’s clean-uninstall procedure rather than deleting individual files at random. The helper is not in ProgramData
Confirm that you typed the path exactly and that the Autodesk product is actually installed. Check both Settings and Control Panel, then try the product’s Windows uninstall entry. If the entry remains but its files are missing, run Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter instead of downloading a replacement executable.
Windows says access is denied
Close Autodesk applications, return to the matching uninstaller folder, and use Run as administrator. If the computer is managed, ask the administrator responsible for the deployment to run the SCCM action with the required rights. Do not change ownership or delete protected folders merely to force the helper to run.
The old Autodesk Uninstall Tool does not show the product
That can be expected for Autodesk products from 2022 onward. Use Windows Settings or Control Panel, or open the product-specific folder under C:ProgramDataAutodeskUninstallers and run the documented helper.
The uninstall finishes but an Autodesk entry remains
Restart Windows, check both installed-app lists, and retry the Microsoft troubleshooter if the entry is orphaned. If your goal is to remove every Autodesk component, use the documented clean-uninstall process only after backing up licensing and configuration information.

The file is unsigned or in a strange folder
Stop. Do not run it or copy it into the Autodesk directory. Scan it with Windows Security and verify whether any Autodesk installation actually needs an uninstaller; a same-named file from an unrelated location is not authenticated by its filename.
