AndroidEmulatorEx.exe is usually a Tencent GameLoop component, not the standard Android Studio emulator. A normal copy is commonly installed at %PROGRAMFILES(X64)%TxGameAssistantuiAndroidEmulatorEx.exe, but the filename alone cannot establish that a file is safe. Security databases contain both GameLoop-associated samples detected as Trojan.Heur! and a different sample still under review, so you must check the complete path, digital signature, hash, installation history and scan results before allowing it to run. This guide shows how to verify the file, respond to a detection, repair a legitimate GameLoop installation and troubleshoot emulator errors without confusing GameLoop with Android Studio’s emulator.exe.

AndroidEmulatorEx.exe is an executable commonly associated with Tencent’s GameLoop Android gaming emulator. File metadata places it in %PROGRAMFILES(X64)%TxGameAssistantuiAndroidEmulatorEx.exe and identifies Tencent as the company. Related GameLoop processes can include AppMarket.exe and aow_exe.exe.

The name is easy to confuse with Android Studio’s official emulator. Android Studio normally uses emulator.exe to run Android Virtual Devices (AVDs); Android Developers’ troubleshooting documentation applies to that emulator and its AVD system. The exact AndroidEmulatorEx.exe name appears in GameLoop/Tencent records instead. A process with this name is therefore not automatically part of Android Studio.
Is AndroidEmulatorEx.exe safe?
There is no universal yes-or-no answer. A file in an intentional GameLoop installation may be legitimate, while a copy with the same name in a temporary or unrelated folder may be malicious or unwanted. These records show why verification matters: the GameLoop index contains multiple hashes with different statuses. “Trojan.Heur!” is a heuristic detection, not a laboratory finding that every file with this name is malicious; conversely, a valid Tencent signature does not prove that a particular file is harmless. Microsoft defines malware as malicious software and separately describes potentially unwanted apps as software that can show unwanted advertising or install unexpected programs. Treat an unexpected copy seriously without declaring it malicious solely from its name.
How do I verify AndroidEmulatorEx.exe safely?
Use the following sequence before launching, deleting or whitelisting the file. Record each result so you can compare it with a vendor record or provide useful information to support staff.
- Open the file location from Task Manager. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, find
AndroidEmulatorEx.exein the Processes or Details tab, right-click it and select Open file location. Copy the complete path, then close the process if it is running. - Assess the installation context. An intentional GameLoop installation normally uses a TxGameAssistant directory under Program Files. A temporary download folder such as
txgamedownload, an unrelatedAppDatalocation, a Startup folder, a removable drive or a computer with no GameLoop installation increases suspicion. The path is evidence, not a verdict. - Check the digital signature. Right-click the file, choose Properties, open Digital Signatures, select the signer and choose Details. Note the signer name and whether Windows reports that the signature is valid. A Tencent signature supports provenance, but it cannot prove that the file has not been replaced or abused.
- Calculate the hash. Compare the file’s MD5 or another cryptographic hash with a trusted vendor or incident-response record. In PowerShell, you can calculate SHA-256 with
Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 "C:pathtoAndroidEmulatorEx.exe"; use the actual path shown by Task Manager. Do not infer safety from a matching filename, publisher field or directory alone. - Update Microsoft Defender. Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Protection updates and select Check for updates. An up-to-date security-intelligence database gives the scan the best chance of recognizing current threats.
- Run a full scan. In Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options, select Full scan. Leave the computer powered on until the scan completes and review the detection name, affected path and action taken.
- Use Microsoft Defender Offline when needed. If the process returns after removal, blocks security tools or appears to reload at startup, select Microsoft Defender Offline scan. Windows restarts into a separate scanning environment, which can inspect files before normal startup programs load.
- Record the result before changing anything. Save the path, hash, signer, detection name and scan date. This prevents you from deleting the wrong component and gives GameLoop or Microsoft support concrete diagnostic information.
What should I do if Windows or an antivirus detects the file?
Do not launch or whitelist a detected copy merely because it is named AndroidEmulatorEx.exe. If the file is unexpected or a scan confirms malware, use Windows Security’s quarantine or removal action, then uninstall the associated GameLoop installation through Windows Settings. Microsoft recommends uninstalling software you do not need rather than leaving an unmaintained component on the computer.
- Disconnect from sensitive accounts while you investigate if you suspect the process is malicious, and avoid entering passwords on the affected Windows session until the scan is complete.

- If Windows cannot uninstall it, boot into Safe Mode, run the Defender Offline scan and remove only folders that the uninstaller and security tools identify. Preserve logs and quarantine records for support.
Dr.Web’s Trojan.KillProc2.38894 rule includes commands that terminate AndroidEmulatorex.exe and other emulator processes. That demonstrates that some malware rules target emulator processes; it does not prove that every file with this name is malicious.
How do I fix AndroidEmulatorEx.exe errors after verifying GameLoop?
If the path, signature, installation history and scans all fit an intentional GameLoop installation, treat the problem as a damaged or incompatible emulator component rather than a confirmed infection.
Update GameLoop from its trusted distribution channel
Use GameLoop’s own update function or obtain the current installer from a source you deliberately trust. Avoid installers supplied through pop-up download pages or temporary mirrors. Close games and the emulator first, and preserve game data, screenshots and logs before replacing files.

Reinstall the complete application
Do not delete only AndroidEmulatorEx.exe. GameLoop depends on emulator components, services, virtual disks and configuration files; removing one executable can leave a broken installation and make later repair harder. Uninstall GameLoop normally from Windows Settings, restart, then install a clean copy. If you need local game data, back it up using the application’s documented location before uninstalling.
Collect logs for a reproducible report
GameLoop-related logs can include AndroidEmulator100.log and AEngine100.log. Copy the files before reinstalling and note the exact error message, Windows edition, GameLoop version, graphics driver version and the action that triggers the failure. These logs help document a crash, but their presence does not establish a malware verdict.
Check permissions and security software interference
Make sure the Windows account can read and write the GameLoop installation and its data directories. If Defender quarantines a component, do not create an exclusion automatically; first verify the hash and obtain a clean installer. A legitimate application can be blocked by a false positive, but an exclusion also removes a layer of protection, so it should be considered only after independent verification.
Why is AndroidEmulatorEx.exe using high CPU or memory?
An Android gaming emulator performs CPU-intensive translation, graphics rendering, storage I/O and background service work. High usage while a game is running can be expected, but sustained load when GameLoop is closed, a sudden change after an update, or activity from a copy in an unexpected folder warrants investigation.

Keep at least 5 GB of free disk space
The official emulator checks available disk space at startup and will not start when less than 5 GB is free. This is a minimum launch condition, not a recommendation for every game’s storage needs; large AVD images and game data require considerably more room. Check the drive that stores the AVD and emulator data, not only the Windows system drive.
Provide enough committed memory
Windows can reject the emulator’s full guest-memory request when physical RAM plus pagefile capacity is insufficient. Close unused applications and, when appropriate, allow Windows to manage the pagefile instead of setting an unnecessarily small fixed limit. A crash during startup can therefore be a memory-commit problem even when Task Manager shows free physical RAM.
Rename Unicode AVD names or update the emulator
Some affected emulator versions fail to launch when an AVD name contains Unicode characters. Updating the official Android Emulator to version 31.3.6 or later fixes that specific issue. This remedy applies to Android Studio AVDs; it does not change the identity of a GameLoop executable.
Review graphics, remote-session and hypervisor conditions
GPU driver fallback, remote-desktop rendering, hypervisor limitations and missing runtime components can prevent an emulator from starting or can cause severe performance degradation. Test locally when possible, update the graphics driver through the hardware maker’s supported channel and verify that Windows virtualization features are compatible with the emulator you intend to use.
Check DNS and network configuration
Games and emulator services may fail even when the emulator window opens if DNS, firewall or proxy settings block required endpoints. Compare behavior on a trusted network, review Windows Firewall prompts and avoid disabling security controls globally. Network failures do not by themselves indicate that AndroidEmulatorEx.exe is malware.
Should I keep GameLoop or remove it?
