AsrPolychromeRGB.exe is the main executable for ASRock’s Polychrome RGB (also called ASRRGBLED) utility. It controls lighting on compatible ASRock hardware. A copy installed under C:Program Files (x86)ASRock UtilityASRRGBLEDBinAsrPolychromeRGB.exe, carrying a valid ASRock publisher signature and installed with the motherboard’s RGB package, is consistent with the legitimate program. The filename alone does not prove that an arbitrary copy is safe.

Crashes, access-violation messages, Windows faulting-application events and “Device not Detected” errors are reported failure modes. Check the file first, then close competing RGB controllers, reboot, and reinstall the Polychrome package matched to your exact motherboard and Windows version. The complete sequence below avoids downloading a replacement executable from an unofficial site.

What does AsrPolychromeRGB.exe do?

AsrPolychromeRGB.exe is the executable used by ASRock’s Polychrome RGB utility, packaged under the ASRRGBLED name. The utility manages RGB lighting on compatible PC hardware, so it may run in the background even when its control window is not open. A scheduled-task entry observed for the program points to the ASRock Utility installation directory and identifies ASRock as the publisher.

The executable is not a Windows system component. It is part of an optional motherboard utility. If you do not use the lighting controls, Windows can generally operate without the program, but removing or disabling it can take away Polychrome’s ability to apply lighting profiles.

Is AsrPolychromeRGB.exe safe?

It can be safe when it is the copy installed by ASRock’s Polychrome RGB package, but the name by itself is not an authenticity check. Malware can be given a familiar filename. Treat the file as legitimate only when the installation path, digital signature, source and security scan agree.

Check What supports a legitimate copy What requires investigation
Location C:Program Files (x86)ASRock UtilityASRRGBLEDBinAsrPolychromeRGB.exe A user profile, temporary folder, random download directory or another unexpected path
Publisher File Properties shows a valid ASRock publisher signature No signature, an invalid signature or a publisher unrelated to ASRock
Origin Installed with the motherboard’s Polychrome RGB package or obtained from ASRock support Arrived in an unsolicited archive, crack, driver bundle or unofficial mirror
Security result Your trusted security product reports no detection A detection, quarantine event or scan that cannot complete

Filename databases do not provide a definitive malware verdict for every copy of this executable. If either the path or signature is unexpected, do not launch the file simply to see what happens. Isolate it and scan it with a trusted security product; replacing it with an executable downloaded from a random website can create a larger security problem.

Which AsrPolychromeRGB.exe errors are reported?

The wording varies, but reports cluster around three symptoms. The exact message and the path shown in the event record are useful when deciding whether you have a software conflict, a damaged installation or a suspicious file.

“AsrPolychromeRGB.exe stopped working”

Windows may close the utility during startup or when it attempts to communicate with the lighting controller. A faulting-application entry can show the executable path and version; one reported event identifies version 2.0.157.0 under the ASRock Utility directory.

Access-violation crashes

An access violation means the process attempted an invalid memory operation. In this context it can appear when the utility is damaged, incompatible with the installed package or competing with another RGB controller that has retained hardware access. The message alone does not establish malware.

“Device not Detected”

Polychrome may open but report that it cannot find a supported lighting device. A mismatched motherboard package, a failed installation or another RGB service controlling the device can all leave the utility without access. Confirm the executable first, then work through the repair sequence rather than installing an unrelated copy.

How do I verify the file before repairing it?

Verification should come before reinstalling or deleting anything. These checks take only a few minutes and preserve evidence if you need support.

  1. Locate the running file. If the process is active, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, select the Details tab, right-click AsrPolychromeRGB.exe and choose Open file location. If it is not running, search for the filename in File Explorer and inspect each copy rather than assuming the first result is genuine.
  2. Compare the full path. The expected installation is C:Program Files (x86)ASRock UtilityASRRGBLEDBinAsrPolychromeRGB.exe. A different path is not automatic proof of infection, because installations can vary, but it is a reason to pause and verify the source.
  3. Check the signature. Right-click the file, select Properties, open Digital Signatures and select the signer. Use the signature-details dialog to confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and identifies ASRock as the publisher. An absent or invalid signature warrants isolation and scanning.
  4. Confirm how it arrived. The safest explanation is that the file was installed with the Polychrome RGB package intended for your motherboard or downloaded from ASRock support. Do not treat a copy supplied by a third-party “DLL” or driver site as equivalent.
  5. Run a security scan. Scan the file and its containing folder with your trusted security product. If it detects the file, follow the product’s quarantine guidance and do not restore it merely because the filename looks familiar.

How do I fix AsrPolychromeRGB.exe stopped working?

Follow the steps in order. The early actions are reversible and address the most common cause in this situation: two RGB programs trying to control the same hardware.

1. Close every other RGB controller

Exit RGB applications from their notification-area icons. Then open Task Manager and check both the Processes and Details tabs for RGB utilities that remain active. Closing a visible window may not stop its background service; a competing controller can continue holding the device after its interface disappears.

Do not end an unfamiliar process solely because it contains “RGB” in its name. If you cannot identify a process, leave it alone and continue with a reboot or consult the software’s own documentation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Restart Windows

Choose Start > Power > Restart. A restart clears a stuck background process and releases hardware-control handles. After signing back in, wait for the desktop to finish loading before opening Polychrome RGB.

3. Test Polychrome RGB by itself

Open the utility from the Start menu or its installed shortcut without launching another lighting program. Test a simple lighting change and observe whether the crash or “Device not Detected” message returns. If it works after the restart, re-enable other RGB tools one at a time only if you need them; the program that brings the error back is the likely conflict.

4. Download the package for the exact motherboard

Identify the motherboard model in Windows System Information (run msinfo32 and read BaseBoard Manufacturer and BaseBoard Product) or from the board’s documentation. On ASRock’s support site, open that model’s support page and choose the Polychrome RGB or ASRRGBLED package intended for your edition of Windows. Do not substitute a package for a similar-looking board.

Keep the downloaded installer from the official support page. Do not copy an executable from another computer, a software archive or a “missing DLL” site. Different board generations can require different components even when the utility name is the same.

5. Uninstall the existing Polychrome package

Save any lighting settings you can reproduce later, then open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (called Apps & features on some Windows releases). Find ASRock Polychrome RGB, ASRRGBLED or the corresponding ASRock RGB entry and select Uninstall. If your Windows edition uses the classic interface, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features instead.

Allow the uninstaller to finish. If it reports that a component is in use, close Task Manager and other RGB tools, restart Windows, and run the uninstall again. Do not manually delete random files from System32 or the Windows registry to force removal.

6. Restart after uninstalling

Restart before running the new installer. This gives Windows an opportunity to release services and scheduled tasks left by the old package. Skipping this restart can make a clean installation appear broken because an old process is still loaded.

7. Install the motherboard-matched package

Run the ASRock installer you downloaded for the exact board and Windows version. Accept the normal installation location unless ASRock’s installer requires another one. When setup completes, restart again, then open Polychrome RGB and test it before installing or re-enabling other RGB controllers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

8. Keep one controller active while testing

If the utility still crashes, temporarily disable or uninstall competing RGB applications and their background services. Test with only Polychrome RGB present. Persistent services from another controller can conflict even when its window is closed, so a clean test requires more than minimizing the program.

9. Record the failure if it continues

Open Event Viewer by pressing Win+R, entering eventvwr.msc, and selecting Windows Logs > Application. Find the entry at the time of the crash and record the faulting application name, faulting module if shown, exception text, executable path and file version. Preserve the exact “Device not Detected” wording or access-violation code as well.

When contacting ASRock support, provide the motherboard model, Windows edition, Polychrome package version, executable path, signature result, the Event Viewer details and which competing RGB programs were disabled. Those details are more useful than a screenshot that shows only the first line of the error.

What should I do when the message says “Device not Detected”?

First establish whether the utility itself is genuine and matched to the motherboard. Then restart with other RGB software closed and reinstall the package from that board’s official support page. The message is not fixed by downloading a replacement .exe from an unofficial source.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If detection returns after the reinstall but disappears when another lighting application starts, leave only one controller active. If detection never returns, preserve the event details and package version for ASRock support; the available reports do not establish a universal software-only fix for every hardware configuration.

How do I handle an access-violation error?

Capture the complete exception text and faulting module before changing files. Then close competing RGB utilities, restart Windows and test Polychrome alone. If the crash remains, uninstall and reinstall the motherboard-specific package, restarting between removal and installation.

An access violation can result from a damaged or mismatched installation, but the message does not identify the cause by itself. Do not disable security software permanently or replace system files in response to this error; those actions can obscure the real problem and increase risk.

Which repair option is least disruptive?

The following comparison helps you choose an order based on the likely cause and the amount of change involved.

Should I delete AsrPolychromeRGB.exe?

Do not delete a verified installation merely because Windows reports a crash. Deleting the executable can break the Polychrome package and remove the information support staff need. If the file is in an unexpected location or has no valid ASRock signature, isolate and scan it instead of attempting a manual replacement.

If you no longer want Polychrome RGB, uninstall the complete ASRock utility through Windows’ installed-apps interface. That is safer and more reversible than deleting one executable while leaving services, scheduled tasks and configuration files behind.

What should I avoid while troubleshooting?

  • Do not download a replacement executable from a random mirror, crack site or “DLL fix” page.
  • Do not assume that an identical filename from another motherboard is compatible with yours.
  • Do not run several RGB controllers simultaneously while testing; background services can remain active after their windows close.
  • Do not treat a filename-only malware database result as a definitive safety verdict.
  • Do not remove registry entries or files from Windows system directories without a documented ASRock or Windows repair procedure.
  • Do not report only “it crashes.” Include the exact path, signature status, version, exception text and Event Viewer entry.

When is the problem likely not the executable itself?

If the file passes the path and signature checks, works after a reboot, and fails only when another lighting program is running, the conflict is a stronger explanation than a malicious or fundamentally broken executable. Likewise, a “Device not Detected” message limited to one mismatched package points toward compatibility rather than the filename.

Conversely, an unexpected location, invalid signature or security detection changes the priority: stop troubleshooting the RGB feature and investigate the file’s origin first. The repair sequence applies to a legitimate ASRock installation; it is not a method for making an untrusted copy safe.

What information should I keep for support?

Create a short record before making further changes:

  • Motherboard manufacturer and exact model.
  • Windows edition and version.
  • Polychrome RGB or ASRRGBLED package version.
  • AsrPolychromeRGB.exe full path and file version.
  • Whether the Digital Signatures tab reports a valid ASRock signature.
  • The complete error wording, including any access-violation code.
  • The Event Viewer application entry and time of failure.
  • Names of other RGB utilities installed, even if their windows were closed.
  • Which steps changed the behavior.

This record lets support distinguish a path or authenticity issue from a package mismatch and from a persistent RGB-service conflict.

As an optional shortcut after the manual checks, Outbyte PC Repair can look for common Windows problems, clean temporary and cache files, review selected settings and keep an app-crash log. It complements an antivirus rather than replacing one; results vary, no tool repairs every crash, and its free trial is limited by category before a subscription is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I disable the scheduled task for AsrPolychromeRGB.exe?

You can disable a Polychrome-related scheduled task to test whether it is triggering a startup crash, but doing so may stop the lighting utility from launching automatically. Record the task name and original setting first so you can restore it after testing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will Windows run normally without Polychrome RGB?

Yes, Polychrome RGB is an optional ASRock utility rather than a Windows core component. Basic Windows operation should continue, although lighting profiles and controls provided by the utility will not be available.

Why does the file appear in Program Files (x86) on a 64-bit PC?

The expected ASRock installation uses a Program Files (x86) directory, which Windows commonly uses for 32-bit applications on 64-bit systems. The directory name alone is therefore not evidence that the file is unsafe; verify the full path and signature together.

Should I send the executable to a file-analysis website?

Do not upload a file that could contain personal or proprietary information without understanding the service’s retention and sharing terms. A local scan from your trusted security product, combined with the path and publisher checks, is the safer first response to an unexpected copy.
