BEService_x64.exe is normally the 64-bit BattlEye anti-cheat service installed with a game that uses BattlEye. A legitimate copy is usually in the game’s BattlEye folder or in C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesBattlEye. It is not a standalone Windows component. The filename alone does not prove that every copy is safe, so an executable found elsewhere should be checked before you allow it to run.
BattlEye generally needs to be active during online play, although its service can remain installed between sessions. Startup failures are usually repaired by verifying the game files, checking security-software blocks and permissions, recreating the shared BattlEye folder, and running the game’s BattlEye launcher with administrative rights. Windows 11’s Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection and missing runtime files require separate fixes.

What is BEService_x64.exe?
BEService_x64.exe is the 64-bit executable for BattlEye, a proactive anti-cheat system used by supported online games. BattlEye operates in user mode and kernel mode to inspect activity relevant to game protection. The service is supplied as part of a game’s BattlEye installation; it is not a general Windows service that you need for ordinary desktop use.
BattlEye’s own documentation identifies both BEService.exe and BEService_x64.exe in a title’s BattlEye directory. A shared installation is commonly stored in C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesBattlEye. The exact game directory varies with the launcher and the title.

Rockstar states that BattlEye needs to be active during online sessions such as GTA Online. Other publishers similarly install BattlEye with games that require it and warn that removing it can stop those games from launching. The service may therefore be present when no game is running, even though its most relevant activity is tied to protected gameplay.
BattlEye’s privacy policy says the system may process operating-system information, running processes, drivers, executable code and identifiers. It also describes data-minimization and retention practices. Review the policy and your game’s publisher documentation if those data practices affect your decision to use online services.
Where should BEService_x64.exe be located?
Use the full path, not just the filename, when deciding whether a copy deserves further checking.

To find the path, open Task Manager, locate the BattlEye process, right-click it and choose Open file location. You can also search for BEService_x64.exe in File Explorer, then inspect each result rather than assuming that the first result is genuine.
Is BEService_x64.exe safe or a virus?
A copy that arrived with a BattlEye-protected game and resides in one of the documented locations is plausible as a legitimate service. That is a starting point, not proof. Malware can use a familiar filename, and a legitimate filename copied to an unexpected directory still deserves scrutiny.
Check the publisher signature
- Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab. Select the available signature and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and note the signer. A missing, invalid or unexpectedly changed signature is a reason to stop and investigate.
The tab can be absent on an unsigned file, and a valid signature does not by itself prove that the file is the one your game needs. Compare the path and the owning game’s installation as well.

Note the complete path, file size and modified date. Submit the file to your installed, up-to-date security software or scan it locally. A third-party report found no detections for one specific BEService_x64.exe hash, but that was a single-hash result, not a population study and not a guarantee for every file with this name.

Do not download a replacement executable from a random file site. BattlEye says current client files come with the game distribution, so the safer restoration method is the game’s launcher verification or reinstall process.
Why is BEService_x64.exe using CPU?
Anti-cheat activity can use CPU while a protected game is launching or while you are playing online. A short burst associated with those events is different from sustained high usage when no BattlEye game is running. The process’s path and the game that triggered it matter more than the filename shown in Task Manager.
Identify the process and its duration
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Escand sort the Processes or Details view by CPU. - Right-click the process and choose Open file location. Compare the path with the documented BattlEye locations.
- Record whether usage falls after the game closes. Persistent load, repeated relaunches or load from an unexpected path should be treated as an error or security investigation rather than as normal game activity.
Before changing exclusions or deleting files, check for a stuck game process, a launcher update, a blocked service or a damaged installation. The repair sequence below addresses those causes without assuming that high CPU means malware.

How do I fix “Failed to install BattlEye Service” or a “Starting BattlEye Service…” hang?
BattlEye describes this message as a condition in which something on the system prevents installation or startup of the service required for BattlEye-enabled servers. Work through the steps in order, retrying the game after each major change.
1. Verify or repair the game files
Open the launcher that owns the game and use its Verify, Verify integrity or Repair command. Steam, Epic, Ubisoft Connect and other launchers use slightly different labels, but the function compares the installed files with the publisher’s copy and restores missing or damaged BattlEye files. Restart the launcher when the check completes and test the game.
If verification reports files that cannot be restored, reinstall the game from that same launcher. This keeps the BattlEye client matched to the title instead of mixing files from an unrelated download.
2. Check security-software and firewall blocks
Open your security product’s detection, quarantine and firewall logs. Look for blocks involving BEService.exe, BEService_x64.exe, the game’s BattlEye folder or C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesBattlEye. If you have confirmed the files came from the game’s launcher, restore or allow the specific file or folder according to the security product’s instructions, then retry.

Use the narrowest exception that solves the problem and remove it if you uninstall the game. Never disable protection broadly just to bypass an error, and do not whitelist an unexpected copy before checking its signature and scanning it.
3. Correct directory permissions
BattlEye specifically calls out permission problems, including access for the Windows SYSTEM account. In File Explorer, right-click the game’s folder and the shared BattlEye folder, choose Properties, open Security and inspect the permissions. The account used by the service must be able to read and create the required service files. If the folder is owned by another user, inherited permissions were removed, or an enterprise policy is blocking service creation, repair those settings or ask the administrator who manages the PC.
4. Recreate the shared service directory
Close the game and its launcher. Delete C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesBattlEye, then launch the game again so the launcher can recreate the service. Delete only that BattlEye directory after confirming that no other protected title is running; a title-specific launcher may reinstall it for several games.
5. Run the BattlEye launcher as administrator
Find the game’s BattlEye launcher, commonly the executable whose name ends in _BE.exe. Right-click it, select Properties, open Compatibility, enable Run this program as an administrator, select Apply and retry the game. If the title’s publisher supplies a different launcher procedure, follow that title-specific instruction instead.

6. Investigate broader Windows conflicts
If the service still will not start, temporarily close nonessential overlays, macro tools, monitoring utilities and graphics-modification software. Check Windows Event Viewer for service or application errors around the failed launch. Damaged Windows components, restrictive endpoint policies and incompatible low-level software can prevent service startup; repair those issues before considering a Windows repair installation.
How do I fix Windows 11 Driver Load Error 1275?
On Windows 11, BattlEye documents a conflict between its BEDaisy.sys driver and Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection. The resulting message is commonly shown as Driver Load Error 1275.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Device security, then Core isolation details.
- Turn off Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection.
- Restart Windows and launch the game again.
This is a security-feature trade-off, not a universal BattlEye repair. Re-enable the setting when a compatible BattlEye and Windows update is available, and avoid leaving it disabled without understanding the protection you are giving up. If the option is controlled by an organization, contact its administrator rather than forcing the change.

How do I fix “Exception Processing Message 0xc0000135”?
BattlEye associates 0xc0000135 with missing system or Visual C++ runtime files. Complete the game’s normal setup, run the launcher’s file verification, and reinstall or repair the affected game if files are incomplete. Repair the required Visual C++ runtime through Windows’ installed-app options or the official runtime package used by the game’s publisher.
Do not replace the missing executable by downloading a similarly named DLL or EXE from an untrusted site. A manually copied runtime can be the wrong architecture or version and can introduce a security problem while leaving the underlying installation incomplete.
What should I do about a blocked-file message?
Epic and Gaijin explain that a blocked-file message means the game process attempted to load the file. It is not, by itself, evidence of a ban. If the game continues to work, note the message and check the publisher’s guidance before changing anything.
If the game fails to start, use this order:
- Review firewall and security-software logs for the blocked item and allow only a verified game file when appropriate.
- Open the game’s installation directory and remove unauthorized
d3d9.dll,dxgi.dllordsound.dllfiles that were added by mods or injectors. Preserve backups only if you know their source and can restore a clean directory. - Repair the folder permissions, then verify the game files through the launcher.
- Run an up-to-date malware scan if an unknown DLL, altered executable or unexpected path is involved.
Title-specific publisher instructions can override generic BattlEye advice, particularly when a game uses its own launcher, mod policy or file-protection rules.
How do I troubleshoot blue screens or random game termination?
If a blue screen or sudden application termination occurs while BattlEye is active, first return the system to a known configuration. BattlEye advises disabling Driver Verifier and updating the system BIOS when its service coincides with a BSOD.

- Close or update nonessential monitoring, overlay, macro and graphics-modification utilities. Low-level tools can conflict with anti-cheat drivers even when the game itself is current.
- Verify the game files and test with a clean launch before reintroducing optional utilities one at a time.
If crashes continue outside the game, collect the Windows stop code, minidump and Event Viewer entries. That pattern points to a broader driver, firmware or hardware problem rather than a single BattlEye executable.

You can remove BattlEye when you no longer use the protected game, but deleting only BEService_x64.exe is not a clean uninstall. Games that require BattlEye may refuse to launch until the service and client files are restored.

Remove it through the game’s files
Open the game’s BattlEye folder and run Uninstall_BattlEye.bat when that script is present. Then uninstall the game through its launcher if you are finished with it. Some titles remove the shared service automatically during their own uninstall.
Remove an orphaned service

When should I stop troubleshooting and seek support?
Escalate to the game’s publisher or BattlEye support when verification repeatedly restores the same files, the service fails under a clean Windows profile, or a title-specific launcher reports an error not covered by its general BattlEye instructions. Include the game name, launcher, Windows edition and build, complete BEService_x64.exe path, exact error text, recent security-software actions and any crash or Event Viewer details.
Seek security help instead when the file is unsigned, its signature is invalid, its hash changes unexpectedly, it runs from a temporary or user-writable directory, or scans flag it independently of the game. Preserve the path and scan results before deleting anything so that the source of the file can be investigated.
