BridgeCommunication.exe is an HP software component commonly associated with HP Jump Start Bridge. It is not a Windows core file, and a Microsoft Q&A answer says it is not essential to Windows. On a legitimate installation, the executable should be signed by HP Inc. and normally reside inside an HP DriverStore package whose path starts with hpcustomcapcomp.inf_amd64_ and ends in x64. The filename alone is not proof of safety because malware can copy it. Verify the complete path and digital signature before deciding whether to leave it alone, scan the computer, or uninstall the HP package that installed it.
What is BridgeCommunication.exe?
BridgeCommunication.exe is an HP setup and support communication component. Community answers on Microsoft’s Q&A site commonly identify it with HP Jump Start Bridge, software that can appear during the welcome and registration flow on a new HP computer. MiniTool describes Jump Start Bridge as preloaded software used to guide first-run registration, offer optional services and help install applications.

The name “Bridge” does not mean that this file is Windows’ network-adapter bridging feature. The available explanations use “Bridge” as HP’s product name. There is no evidence here that BridgeCommunication.exe independently controls your network adapters, Windows drivers or firmware. HP has shipped different builds and packages, so the exact behavior can vary by model and software bundle.
One inspected sample recorded by FreeFixer was version 1.31.2309.0, with HP Inc. listed as the company, product name BridgeCommunication and HP Inc. as the digital signer. That version and its hash identify one sample accessed in 2026; they are not a guarantee that every HP computer has the same build.

Is BridgeCommunication.exe a virus?
It can be legitimate HP software, but the filename by itself proves nothing. A genuine copy should have both an expected HP location and a valid HP Inc. signature. An unsigned copy, a copy signed by another publisher or a copy running from a user-writable folder deserves investigation.
| What to check | Legitimate-looking result | Warning sign |
|---|---|---|
| Publisher or signature | Digital signature is valid and the signer is HP Inc. | No signature, an invalid signature or a publisher other than HP Inc. |
| File location | An HP DriverStore package with a path resembling hpcustomcapcomp.inf_amd64_…x64 |
A random folder, a temporary directory, a browser-download folder or an unexpected system location |
| Package identity | The file belongs to an installed HP Jump Start or related HP support package | No identifiable HP package installed the file, or the package name does not match |
| Security result | Your security software reports no threat | A full scan detects malware or suspicious persistence |
Microsoft Q&A specifically warns that malicious software can use the same name and recommends a complete security scan when the file’s identity is uncertain. Treat an unexpected path or failed signature as an unverified copy, not as proof of infection; confirm with a full scan and the exact HP product model.

How do I verify the real file?
Use Task Manager and File Explorer first. These checks are safer than deleting a file while its owning package is still installed.
- Open Task Manager. Press
Ctrl+Shift+Esc, find BridgeCommunication.exe in the Processes or Details view, right-click it and choose Open file location. - Record the complete path. Look for an HP DriverStore directory. The documented pattern begins with
hpcustomcapcomp.inf_amd64_and ends with anx64folder. The variable portion between those parts differs by package and installation. - Check the publisher. Right-click the executable, select Properties, open Digital Signatures, select the signature and choose Details. Windows should report that the signature is valid and identify HP Inc. as signer.
- Check the installed package. In Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Control Panel > Programs and Features), look for HP Jump Start Bridge or a closely related HP support component.
- Scan if anything does not match. Run a full scan with Windows Security or your trusted security product if the path, signature or package relationship is unexpected. Do not rely on the filename or on one quick scan.
A valid HP signature is strong evidence that the file was published by HP, but it does not tell you whether you still need the feature. That decision depends on whether you use HP’s first-run or support utilities and whether your particular model includes other components that depend on the package.

Why are there so many BridgeCommunication.exe processes?
Some users have reported dozens of entries. An HP-hosted community discussion from 2026 describes counts fluctuating from roughly 1 to 40 while background work is active. Those are user observations and community guidance, not an HP specification or a normal-count guarantee for every installation.
Multiple entries can appear when the HP component starts workers for setup or background tasks, or when a supervising service restarts a worker that has ended. Ending one entry in Task Manager may therefore have little effect: another process can remain, or the service can launch it again. If the entries consume unusual CPU, memory or disk resources, record the path and signature first, then investigate the parent HP package and scan the system.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Is BridgeCommunication.exe a Windows network bridge?
No. In this context, “Bridge” refers to HP Jump Start Bridge software, not the Windows feature that connects network adapters at the operating-system level. Removing or stopping the HP process should not be treated as a way to configure, repair or disable Windows network bridging.
If your concern is a network problem, inspect Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings > More network adapter options and the adapter properties separately. Do not infer a networking failure from the executable’s name.

Can I delete BridgeCommunication.exe?
Do not manually delete the executable, especially when it is inside DriverStore. DriverStore files are managed by Windows and their parent packages; deleting one file can leave an incomplete package and make later repairs harder. If you do not want the HP utility, uninstall the identified parent package instead.
Recommended uninstall route
- Verify the file and identify the owning HP package using the steps above.
- Save any work and close HP setup or support windows.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, search for HP Jump Start Bridge or the exact package name you identified, select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall. On older Windows versions, use Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Complete the vendor uninstaller and restart Windows when prompted. MiniTool’s published procedure also ends with a restart.
- After rebooting, check Task Manager and Installed apps again. Do not assume that removing Jump Start removes every HP communication or diagnostic component.
Uninstalling a setup utility is different from removing a driver. The evidence available here says BridgeCommunication.exe is not essential to Windows, but it does not establish that every HP utility on every model can be removed without losing a model-specific convenience feature. If you depend on HP’s guided setup, registration or optional service offers, leaving the package installed may be preferable.
Why does BridgeCommunication.exe keep coming back?
Stopping a process is not the same as uninstalling its package. An HP-hosted community reply reports that the HPSysinfoCap service managed and restarted BridgeCommunication on that user’s computer; stopping that service made the process disappear and prevented an immediate restart. This is a model- and package-specific community report, not a universal HP removal instruction.
If the process returns, check these possibilities in order:

- The HP Jump Start or related support package is still installed and is designed to start at logon or during setup tasks.
- A supervising HP service, potentially including
HPSysinfoCapon some models, is restarting the worker. - A Windows repair, HP update or recovery action restored the package.
- You removed one visible executable but not the parent package that owns it.
- The returning file is a different, unverified copy with the same name.
First recheck the path and signature after it returns. If they still point to the same signed HP package, use that package’s uninstaller rather than repeatedly ending tasks. If the path or signer changes, treat the new copy as a separate security investigation.
What should I do in each situation?
| Situation | Best next action | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| HP Inc. signature, expected DriverStore path, no symptoms | Leave it installed unless you have a reason to remove HP Jump Start features. | Deleting the DriverStore file just because the name is unfamiliar. |
| Many entries but modest resource use and a valid HP package | Let the background task finish, then review the owning package and startup behavior. | Assuming a particular process count is universally normal or repeatedly killing entries. |
| High resource use, freezes or repeated restarts | Capture the path, signer and package name; scan the system and contact HP support with the exact product number. | Disabling random Windows services or deleting files before identifying the owner. |
| Unexpected path or invalid/non-HP signature | Disconnect from sensitive activity if appropriate, run a full security scan and follow the scanner’s remediation guidance. | Trusting the filename because it contains “HP” or “Bridge.” |
| You no longer want HP Jump Start | Uninstall the identified parent package through Installed apps or Control Panel, then restart. | Expecting that one uninstall necessarily removes every HP communication component. |
When should I contact HP support?
Use HP’s support route for your exact product number when the package will not uninstall, the process returns after removal, or a model feature stops working. An HP community moderator asked for the unit serial or product number before offering model-specific assistance; that detail matters because HP bundles differ across models and Windows editions.

What is known—and not known—about its function?
The strongest available description is “an HP setup/support communication component commonly associated with HP Jump Start Bridge.” It supports a first-run welcome flow that may include registration, optional services and app installation. The available material does not provide a current HP technical specification mapping every BridgeCommunication.exe build to a single feature set.

Consequently, do not attribute independent networking, driver management, firmware flashing, telemetry collection or a specific data-transfer protocol to this executable unless HP documents that behavior for your model. The sample version, process counts and service behavior cited above are observations tied to particular installations, not population-wide measurements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does BridgeCommunication.exe need an internet connection?
Its association with HP’s welcome, registration and optional-service flow means network access may be useful during setup, but the available descriptions do not define a required connection state for every build. If blocking it causes an HP setup screen or registration task to fail, restore the default firewall setting and decide whether to uninstall the parent package instead.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Will uninstalling HP Jump Start Bridge remove my HP drivers?
The documented guidance targets the Jump Start application, not manual removal of DriverStore drivers. Because HP bundles vary, review the package name carefully and create a restore point before removing software that your model may use for setup or support.
How can I tell whether a process is the same file after a reboot?
Open its file location again and compare the complete path, signer and version in Properties. A matching HP DriverStore path and HP Inc. signature indicate the same signed package; a changed location or publisher should be handled as a separate investigation.
What if I removed Jump Start but BridgeCommunication.exe remains?
That can happen when another HP component owns the executable or a supervising service restarts it. Reidentify the parent package in Installed apps, check whether a model-specific service such as HPSysinfoCap is involved, and use HP support with your product number rather than deleting the remaining file.
