Evidence that helps identify the file
- Full path: note the drive, folders and filename exactly as displayed by Windows.
- Digital signature: in the file’s Properties, check the Digital Signatures tab, signer, signature status and certificate details.
- File details: review the Details tab for product name, description, original filename and version.
- Associated software: list the application that launches with the file or appears in Installed apps, Startup, a scheduled task or a service.
- Security alert: preserve the exact product name, detection label and location if antivirus or another security product flags it.
- Timing: record when the file appeared and what installation, update or crash happened immediately beforehand.

If the installation files are damaged, Adobe’s same guidance supports reinstalling the Creative Cloud desktop application. A reinstall addresses the Adobe installation; it does not identify or validate an unrelated ccdcap.exe found elsewhere on the disk.

Adobe also recommends testing in Windows Safe Mode to determine whether an underlying system issue is involved. A launch dialog names vcruntime140_1.dll

Do not merge that DLL diagnosis with an unknown executable diagnosis. The Adobe page does not connect vcruntime140_1.dll to ccdcap.exe; install the redistributable only when the complete error actually calls for it or another trusted application requires it.

1. Reproduce and classify the failure
Determine whether the message occurs at Windows sign-in, when opening a particular application, after waking from sleep, or randomly. Note whether the file is running, missing, blocked, crashing or reported as a bad image. Different wording points to different causes, and a generic “ccdcap.exe has stopped working” message is not enough to identify the publisher.
2. Match the path to an installed program
Use the path from Properties or Task Manager to locate the parent folder. Check Installed apps for a product whose name and installation date match that folder. 6. Reinstall only after recording evidence
If the associated application is clearly identified and its files appear corrupted, uninstall it through Windows or the vendor’s official uninstaller, restart, and install a fresh copy from the vendor. Preserve the original path, error text and signature information before uninstalling so that support can still investigate if the message returns.
Should I delete or rename ccdcap.exe?
Not as a first step. Deleting an unknown executable can break the application that owns it, leave a startup entry that keeps generating errors, or destroy evidence needed to determine whether the file was legitimate. When should I contact Adobe or another vendor?
